Going home with a good haul. Picked up 4-5 DD back issues that finally hit the dollar bin at my regular shop, Ultimate FF volumes 8 and 9 for 2.99 each, and the 3 Omega Effect books. Looking forward to reading it, despite the mixed reviews. The art looks gorgeous, and it sounds like the character interactions are pretty solid.

I need some help, I want to start reading some of the Hulk graphic novels but I dont know where to start. Should I start with Essential Incredible Hulk?

Well if you wanna go more recent, you can get Red Hulk by Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman, the first couple trades are all on amazon, those were fantastic and I don't even like the Hulk

I just finished reading the Omega Effect crossover with Daredevil, Spider-Man, and the Punisher. I loved the dialogue and artwork, but I can understand why readers would not be too happy with being left where they started by the end. Personally, I didn't mind at all, especially with the promise of more megacrime stories on the way. My only wish would be that Waid would introduce some faces for one or two of the organizations, so that it doesn't seem like DD is battling faceless nobodies. Regardless, I'm still very happy with how DD is progressing.

You can't drop Daredevil! Chris Samnee is coming!

There are A LOT of cheesy moments in the first Action Comics arc, but now that it's done, I loved it overall. If it weren't for the cheesy parts, I would have liked it to have been a movie (because for a number of reasons, Man of Steel won't make it possible).

For all the talk about The New 52 and the new direction behind Superman, "1938 attitude" Superman doesn't last long. It's kind of sad, but the story really put things into perspective for him.

He fights Brainiac on his ship BUT ALSO where Brainiac keeps all of his bottled cities. Among them is Metropolis and Kandor, and while he's trying to fight Brainiac, he has to be careful not to shatter any of the cities (he's not entirely successful). From the perspective of Metropolis, Superman and Brainiac are giant entities in space fighting for their fate.

Funny part
Superman even discovers his new armor and changes right in front of the city

Ending
Superman discovers his rocket from infancy, shrunken along with Metropolis, and flicks it into Brainiac's brain. Superman's technology is all noted as indestructible, and it actually re-programs Brainiac. Superman's new Fortress of Solitude is a giant metal skull in orbit around Earth. BOSS

Cheesy parts include
BRAINIAC saying "Nothing is faster than a speeding bullet!"
and Mrs. Nyxly noting that Clark has a wonderful singing voice*.

*Grant Morrison, OH_YOU.jpg

Also, I'd really like a capture of the last page in the follow-up story. If it wasn't Superman, that smile would be the goofiest thing ever.

And so the "one universe" rule doesn't even last 8 issues. Next arc is a multiverse story!

The part that really bothered me with Action Comics were the filler issues. Really dragged the story.

Rewatched Iron Man 1 today. It holds up really well as the first Marvel Movie studies movie.

Still the best Marvel movie

Until Avengers, or so I hear.

Why the FUCK is that movie out everywhere but North America!?

I really enjoyed Thor and Captain America in theaters, but haven't watched them since. I remember Incredible Hulk being average and Iron Man 2 being a let down due to the extra Avengers stuff. I'm going to attempt to watch the rest of them this week so I'll report back on the nostalgia factors.

This week had some GREAT books IMO.
Daredevil was terrific, granted it didn't resolve the harddrive arc/story itself, but I loved the character interactions, plus Greg Rucka got write Spidey in 2 books, so it's all golden IMO.
...and this scene is terrific-

Well I always thought she was just a host for the PF (or so far in from the comics I've read), and that it would move on to something else once she kicked the bucket. The the PF itself was one of the eternal forces in the Universe, and the host didn't truly matter in the whole rebirth aspect.

I think I need a few decades worth of lore to catch up on.....possibly just wiki the entire thing!

I can't remember if it's Here Comes Tomorrow or Endsong that finally says "Hey Jean Grey is THE Phoenix/Head Phoenix/Whatever". By HCT, though, she's freaking reconfiguring Time and Space to her bidding.

Damn fine book. By far my favorite this week. I also loved the art. It has a retro vibe, but still seem modern at the same time.

That looks great. DD's been blessed with some very adept artists. I'm excited that we're getting the next issue in four days!

The Omega Effect did little to change the status quo, but the focus of it seemed to be the DD and Cole-Alves relationship. In that aspect, it succeeded, but the main story really did sputter out at the end. I think Waid wrote it that way because he wants to get some mileage out of this story, although the longer he runs with it, the more readers will question why DD doesn't just give the drive up to the Avengers or to Reed Richards directly.

Last of the Greats TPB was good in the sense that it breaks the monotony of DC/Marvel cape books.

I'd say check it out, it helps that it's very affordable at around $6.99 at amazon and never has time to get boring, though it's over the top in ways that are a little too much for me but never Millar-esque in the sense that it's all shock and no substance.

I just read Snyder's (n52) Batman #7-8. Highly recommended. Amazing cliffhanger. I'm reading every thing he writes now. His detective comics run was just as good, and I've just begun Severed.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
I just started Uncanny X-Force and Woah everyone was right! This rocks. Makes a great companion reading to Aaron's Wolverine & the X-Men - the two feel completely opposite in tone. Fantomex is the coolest, too. I just started the Dark Angel series.

I liked Severed and his DC run a lot. Just started American Vampire, and I like that too. As good as his current Batman is, it's probably the worst of the four things I've read from him.

As of the last two issues, it's in a duel with det comics as far as which one is my favorite.

I'm reading X-Force right now too. One of the Deadpool scenes in like issue 3 or 4 was hilarious. And yeah, I'm gonna read AV, Swamp Thing, and Gates of Gotham.

Ties in with the Bat run and The Court of Owls. So good.

I usually get to read 3-4 new titles in advance but had to rush home to watch the Knicks game but did get to glance through AvX #3 if anyone wants any spoilers.

Mild one:
Someone gets gangbanged and tossed out of an airlock

Edit: Also a huge week for me with:
Ultimate Spidey
Amazing
Daredevil
Wolv & X-Men: Alpha Omega
Sweet Tooth
X-Factor
& a couple of other random titles i forget.

Was it Wolverine? I saw the preview on Comicvine of him and Cap having an argument on a plane, and Cap punches him.

Phoenix of the White Crown whatever that means.

Start with the Peter David Hulks. They're wonderful, they're collected in trade paperbacks, and they feature runs with some great artists such as Todd McFarlane, Dale Keown, and Jeff Purves.

Oh, and a question for anyone who follows Punisher:

I want to read the Steve Dillon/Garth Ennis Punishers. Do you know what series/issues they worked together on?

I agree on the Peter David Hulk run. It is consistently well written and a host of good artists worked on it.

Start with Marvel Knights Punisher from 2000 (Welcome Back, Frank) & then Punisher Max (first series, although the one with Jason Aaron & Steve Dillion is also good).

MK Punisher is kind of light-hearted compared to Max, it's brutal in parts.

Thanks.

I'm really not a Punisher fan, but I like the chemistry between Ennis and Dillon. They have sort of a cartoonish goofiness that's appealing in the way the dark, overviolent other Ennis Punisher stories are.

So. Is there a trade paperback or anything that specifically reprints the Ennis/Dillon Punishers?
I was thinking of the Omnibus, but I guess it's out of print and costly.

Green Lantern was the worst superhero movie I've ever seen, easy, but it did make me revisit a few DCU books on my iPad while I was watching so I guess it did have its intended effect, although a bit backwards.

Man, Sweet Tooth, although it doesn't do anything new or isn't groundbreaking or anything like that. It is such a solid book.

I care about the characters so much. :(

You would do well to check out Catwoman or Electra or anything pre-Y2K, not to mention any of the modern day superhero movies that nerds mistakenly think are good, like Thor or Captain America or The Dark Knight.

I thought Green Lantern was fine. Not god tier like Punisher War Zone but a pretty fun first effort.
