COMICS! |OT| August 2016. That's Rare Groove. Volume is Crucial.

summer movies were sacrificed so that Fury Road could exist last year

a fair trade in my estimation

I can live with this.

Too hot and crap marketing.

But it's not too hot outside America! It's actually kind of cold here.

Good question, there has been a lot of fucking trash this year

There's always interesting stuff at the margins but the tentpoles have been so safe and so mediocre. I saw Ghostbusters yesterday and it was...fine? Just barely entertaining enough but not an inch more? I feel like I could say that about almost everything I've seen this summer.

This is basically the only time I go outside of a big winter release like Star Wars last year. Working at the cinema for placement last year was the killer blow. Whenever I go now, it's "What're you doing these days?" and it's like "Well, I fix porn-and-virus-riddled laptops and occasionally make videos where I open digital goods. But at least I don't have to write a blurb on why people should go to that Fantastic Four movie that came out last year, and also shill it on Twitter."

This year I didn't bother between Civil War and Star Trek. I think it's the first June I can remember I didn't go. I wanted to see Ghostbusters and Warcraft, but at the same time I didn't, because I only like to see things I know I'll enjoy. Money's too precious to waste on things I may not enjoy (but why do you buy comics then? eheheheheheheheheheh). I just don't watch a lot of movies apart from blockbusters, having to stay still for two hours is borderline impossible. At home, I just end up fiddling with a Funko or playing with a tennis ball or Lego piece. And at the cinema, well:

I really couldn't disagree more. But I am not going to change your mind.

I think Low is better now than it has ever been, personally, but I have really enjoyed Tokyo Ghost the past few issues as well.

I may be biased because the last few issues of Tokyo Ghost have been such a marked improvement, but it's not a exaggeration to say I haven't liked the last few issues of Low nearly as much as the first two arcs.

Err guys?

Howard the Duck #2 was fantastic. Shockingly touching (for a comedy) book about female clones of Howard and Rocket trying to escape the Collector. Man that was great. Even the bonus story with Gwenpool was good. This book is all sorts of alright.

Best story in that run. Very emotional.

Tokyo Ghost is easily his worst book but it's not bad. It's just that the others are so strong.

For me, if we're just talking about current creator-owned work, it's

Deadly Class
Low
Tokyo Ghost
Black Science

I think it's interesting that there's never been broad agreement on which of these books is best

no one ever says deadly class is his worst, so that seems pretty clear cut to me

Man, in Archie he's actively trying to destroy his friendship with Betty and doesn't even realize it. Book is all too real.

Is Black Monday Murders going to have a regular schedule? Is Manhattan Projects ever coming back?

Black Science is my favorite Remender ever.

I really couldn't get into that one. The art is nice, but the story just doesn't do anything for me. And I generally like sci-fi books. Speaking of which, you should all read Vescell. Under-appreciate gem from Image that ran for 8-issues a few years back.

The International Company known as Vescell specializes in what is commonly known as 'Vtrans', the transferring of a person's mind and spirit from one body into another. Former Icarus City Detective, Mauricio 'Moo' Barrino is now Vescell's best agent, handling the most high profile and dangerous cases. In the seedy world of a high end corporate espionage, where mysticism and guns clash, and money is tainted with sin, Agent Mauricio Barrino fights against the demons of fate while trying to reach the heaven of his destiny. Be prepared for the bar-raising, sci-fi noir epic that is VESCELL.

If you were to compare it to a really bad movie, would you choose Jurassic World or Star Wars Force Awakens? Too close to call?

Oh I see what youre doing now.

I was giving Brian a chance to make a decision.

Although i wouldn't call Force Awakens a bad movie, i did think it was a letdown. And i stand by Stranger Things complaints after finishing the series tonight.

Did someone mention Tokyo Ghost is ending at #10? If so I'll probably finish the series. I'm not super invested in the story so I've been considering dropping it but the art is so amazing that I end up picking it up.

#10 is the end for the time being, though they do have some plans in the event they decide to continue the book at some point.
