Donie plz. Don't pollute the sacred lists with your heathen trade pulls...

Of course you can. You could just make up a list of books you don't actually get and ain't no one gonna fact check you brah. The intent doesn't seem to be technicalities but a general overview.

Yes please do, I don't want anyone to feel excluded.

Haha thanks guys! Hey I figured it was worth checking and I would have accepted a no. For all I know, Buddy is going to collate the data he ends up towards something he's investigating regarding legitimate monthly purchasing trends, in addition to just what books we all read and are most popular. I wouldn't want to pollute that, and every one fine well knows I don't buy floppies so I wouldn't insult anyone by putting up a list and pretending haha. I'll make mine up in a bit. I just finished New Avengers volume 1, I need time to process this. Soooo good.

New 52 Birds of Prey has waffled back and forth between pretty good (Poison Ivy) to "eh". The current run by Christy Marx feels hamstrung by the current roster. It just feels like it's missing something. They need to drop Condorhawkdude, keep Canary, Batgirl and Strix who needs to gain magic talking powers, then add Poison Ivy back and add a 5th member. I don't know, bring back Big Barda.

My Legion Volume 3 package got here today and the seller included a handful of random, extra comics, including several issues of "Sovereign Seven".
A Chris Claremont creator owned series set in the DCU? Lolwut? .
I remember getting the first issue of that and thinking it was cool. Looking back at it years later it didn't hold up well.

I don't think so, but if you want to start one then I'm sure it could get a page or two. We will talk about them though if you want. We're not all overgrown manbabies :p just some of us.

I would if I could, and maybe will, but at my posting rate it could take a long time till I'll be able to.
Nothing against superheroes comics, but they are so different from other comics that the conversation seems kinda split in this thread. With the superheroes talk being dominant.

I think it's because on a weekly basis more supe books get published so they get talked about more. The Image resurgence is very popular on here too, and lots/most of us have some experience with non-cape books.

What kind of titles do you mean specifically?

What book are you looking to discuss? Just because the superhero book talk is predominant, doesn't mean there aren't people here who are up for chatting about the other stuff. There's a few of us who mostly only read independent/non-cape books.

Don't be shy, man. Sway us from talking about muscle-y men and busty women punching each other in the head a bunch.

There's been a definite uptick in non-super talk since I've started posting in these threads. We don't really need another thread so much as we need all these anti-super people to stick around and talk to each other. lol

Yes, we don't talk enough about black and white autobiographical comics in here.

That is pretty much all non-supe stuff, right?

Blankets! Did somebody say Blankets?! Yo, let me tell you about this book called Blankets:

Vertigo, Image, some Dark Horse, bd. Now, I'm not saying that there is no talk about that, but that there is enough of it that it would warrant it's own thread, since both topics (super hero & non-superhero comics) differ enough from each other, but still are under the cover of one medium. It's like mixing Metalgaf and Popgaf in one thread.

edit: that analogy might be a bit too crass

Not really. I mean, go ahead if you like, but I read about 20 independent books to maybe 5-10 superhero books, and I discuss them in here all the time. I don't check the rest of the off-topic forum so I'd skip out an extra thread. The only times where I have trouble is if I'm the only one who reads the book and an extra thread won't make more readers appear to comment. Especially since the conversation is just as often driven by creator as it is property. If Jason Aaron is putting out a metal record and a pop record, I want to speak about his work to his fans about him in one place, not separately to fans of the genre.

I think ComicGAF has taken the approach of trying to offer one place for all comic related fandoms because of its relatively niche nature. It also doesn't hurt that many of us here tend to dabble in all different genres and companies so it's easier to keep it under one roof. I may talk about DC today but tomorrow I may be gushing over an Image title.

Long story short: You should feel welcome to talk about anything comic related here.

that analogy is perfect because both metal and pop stunt emotional and intellectual growth, just like funnybooks. Personally I think this thread is more like the AltRock thread with the smogasboard of everything that implies. Here I can judge everyone, it's hilariously fun.

But yes, we totally talk about lots of books from those publishers. Some of the very best stuff being published today comes out of there. When you think about it though, most of it is sci-fi/genre stuff which is only a stone's throw from cape books anyway.

Alright, I won't be in the army of one. I'll stay in this thread, in that corner over there, with my non-superheroes comics.
To be honest, I've only recently started reading comics again, after a few years absence. Picked up some Saga, The Massive and trying to catch up with the Fables. Might also pick up some Scalped now that it has ended.

I've just started reading Scalped in trades and it's pretty darn good. One of those books where the art looks crappy as you flick through it but then works super well when you're actually reading. Jason Aaron is the man, nobody else has the range he's got IMO. I just hope I can manage to buy them all before they go out of print or something. I'm still fairly gutted that my slow reading pace means Preacher vol4 HC is now out of print and out of stock (speaking of which, if anyone has a copy they wanna sell me I'll pay cover price!).

Big into Saga as well like most of ComicsGAF, tradewaiting that badboy since it's definitely a keeper/lender. Can't wait for the next volume, gotta be soon. I knew this book was definitely for me when they were talking about why he came inside her in vol2, probably my favourite ever comics sex talk, so funny and true.

I'm also loving the Manhattan Projects at the moment, probably my favourite Image book just because of how loopy fun it all is.

Yeah, scalped is great. Still suprised it hasn't been pick up for a tv series yet, it's perfect for that. Vince Gilligan, where you at?!

I posted earlier about creating a Pull List Ranking for ComicGAF, if your interested please feel free to post what you will be pulling for next month. You don't have to include issue numbers and if a title double ships only count it as one. Please don't include titles that don't have a new release for that month (Ex. Zero does not release next month) and TPB's or HC's. This is just a way to find out which titles are the most popular in GAF.

Yea, I lvoe RM Guera's work on the series, but it never looked as good as I think it could of, it's probably the most modern book I can tihnk of that could do with being taken back and remastered. Although, it might have been that paper haha. I just did a reread of the full series last week, incredible stuff. How far along are you?

EDIT: Not worth it.

I learned to love R.M.s work on the series, especially with some of the awful artists on the non-major arcs. With that said, the only time I felt he dropped the ball was with the last issue, where I honestly had no clue what the fuck happened during the pivotal opening scene and fire fight.

Only just on the second trade now, I go slow with stuff I really enjoy in the hopes of stringing it out a little bit more (kinda the opposite of the modern media binge culture). I was quite happy reading Preacher at one HC per year for example. Bummed me right in the gob.

Love the tone of the series though, it's rough and sandy and gross and all the characters are total dicks so far, I don't even know who to root for yet. And I also feel that Aaron has a good handle on the single issue as well, it doesn't feel too decompressed at all (at least not yet).

My February List:

AFTER LIFE- ARCHIE
AMAZING X-MEN
BATMAN
BATMAN BLACK & WHTIE
BAD BLOOD
BALTIMORE: CHAPEL OF BONES

FOREVER EVIL: ARKHAM
GREEN ARROW
HAWKEYE

MARVEL KNIGHTS: SPIDER-MAN
MARVEL KNIGHTS: X-MEN
PUNISHER
RAT QUEENS
REVELATIONS

Hahah yea, I wasn't a big fan of Davide Furno's issues. When I say it could be taken back, I;m not sure if I mean the inks or the colours, but I think something could be done, it's not necessarily RM's actual pencils I'm criticising, there's was just something there that was off.

Ah man I wish I had the patience you do, I had to put myself on one trade a day once I had it all bought up or I would have read it faster haha. There is an aboslutely incredibly single issue at the beginning of Rez Blues, volume 7 I think. You will know it when you reach it, really really amazing.

GOT to recommend the digital editions. Not being stuck on the worst paper in comics history makes it a brand new series.

ha we really are opposites there. I purposefully stop myself from reading a whole trade in a day, it gives me buyers remorse! I go by a similar way to how I do TV - a single issue (maybe two) or episode in a sitting. Let it sit, digest. Think about it a little bit. Then jump back in. Plus the onslaught of weeklies means that trade reading is pretty much a once-a-week thing as well.

I wish I had this kind of self control with food...

But then it falls prey to digital's worst flaw - I can't lend it to my friends, and my wife doesn't like digicomix so anything she's gonna read has to be paper.
