It's been so long since i've watched Donnie darko that all i remember is it's kinda glum and creepy. With creepy music probably.
It's got an excellent 80s soundtrack as well.

That sounds super cool. Is there a Harbinger hardcover out yet?
Hm there's a thread I want to make but I'll wait until tomorrow when there are less comic OT threads around.
Yes, but it looks like it's out of stock on IST right now.
Funnily enough it's a sort of review of a Superman comic that I'm going to do.
At least post it here for the people who actually care so we don't have to venture out into the badlands of OT.

Here's the first deluxe, and Harbinger Wars deluxe, which is the first event of the series. The Harbinger Wars deluxe might be kind of redundant, though, I should say - it includes 4 issues of Harbinger included in the first deluxe, the main Harbinger Wars issues, and 4 Bloodshot tie-ins that don't add much to the event. Might consider doing the TPB for that one, but your call. Second deluxe edition is due out in January; was September but it got pushed back for some reason.
All i'm thinking about is the best way to hit a soccer ball in the air with a car. Do i jump or jump and roll? Hmmmmm.
Eh, I'll do it during reasonable hours of the day.
It's about Adventures of Superman. I think you can guess which issues.
Edit: oops that was superman adventuresEh, I'll do it during reasonable hours of the day.

Adventures of Superman issue 40 and 41I'm curious too. Quick search turns up nothing particularly controversial.
EDIT: Should have kept scrolling
That's some real hawk-eye tier shit.

The Sound of One Hand Clapping, it is godawful.
Yikes @ those Landis panels. Yikes.

Don't think I've ever read anything quite that... stilted before. It's like, the voices I hear when I read have taken the day off and their understudy's understudy is filling in. Poor delivery in a comic book.
It's almost impressive.
I feel like lettering is one those really unsung aspects, I think a lot of thought goes into their placement, their look, what words gets dat bold emphasis. All that shit really affects the reading experience. I've seen some gorgeous comics fucked up by wack lettering, like all that cursive shit that looks damn near unreadable in early 90s Batman comics that was hot for a minute post-Year One.

Just picked up Hellboy Library Edition Vol. 1 and Saga Book 1 on IST because my physical collection is lacking and I want some big purdy books on my shelf. Next I wanna grab a giant omnibus that I can't even read comfortably.
Anyone think it's weird that the upcoming monster variant month for DC doesn't feature a Batgirl variant. DC trying to avoid another egg on their face situation? I'm sure one of all star Batgirl team (their name not mine) could have done one. Say Babs or Rafael Albuquerque?
I was going to get that cover too, if not for the uproar it caused.
Oh man fuck that Max Landis Joker and Superman story.
"Let me write down why I think these characters suck. I'm not going to tell a story or anything, and make the ending super stupid. Please enjoy."
When I read like really depressing awful, cynical comics I almost always immediately go back to something old and good to make sure I don't hate the whole medium now, and that comics don't hate me. Just some spark of humanism, that's all I need. Some kind of empathy.

Really like Guy Davis on art duties in BPRD. He's really good at drawing these monsters and creepy details.
He draws most of it, he's a really good fit for the book. Dat and Dave Stewart's Eisner winning colors.
Anybody going?Anyone going to the Boston Comic Con this weekend? I've never been to a con so I was wondering if it's worth checking out for a day.
Also what's a good starting point for Hellboy? Any essential trades to look into? New or old does not matter.
My only exposure to Hellboy is via the movies but I love the art in the books so I'd like to get into it.
Someone told me to start with "Seed of Destruction", yay or nay? Where does BPRD fit into the whole thing? I know it's a spin off but I'm unsure if it's necessary to read Hellboy on its own first or not.
Cool thanks for the info! I just quickly checked amazon and the paperbacks all together are actually quiet cheaper than the Library Editions. Is it worth the price difference?Start at the beginning, so Seeds of Destruction is correct. Dark Horse has been collecting the trades into Library Editions which are gorgeous hardcovers that contain two trades in each. They're $20ish online so they're a pretty good deal considering they're really high quality books in general (sewn binding, felt covers, nice paper, etc.). They're numbered too so it's easy to follow them as well, especially in comparison to the large amount of trades the series has.
BPRD is technically a spin-off but it more or less becomes the main series. It also has been collected into omnibus editions (hardcover and paperback) so that helps with reading. If you're interested you should start after Hellboy: Conqueror Worm which is in the third Library Edition.
It's a pretty massive series between the two books but it's good stuff. I originally just wanted to check out Hellboy and some BPRD but I've found myself even looking into checking out the spin-offs they've spawned like Lobster Johnson and Abe Sapien after getting into them.
When are they gonna make a young Jean statue
I really wish Marvel made statues like DC do. Think how many Spider-Gwen statues they could have sold.
