"Heya toots. Wanna make it big in the industry? I took over Moon Knight from Warren Ellis. How about you let me take you home tonight and I'll show you what a real white page looks like. Only the page is your face. I'll make you a star." -Brian Wood

I dig it. I've been buying the monthlies for a looooong time. It's a futuristic pulp sci-fi series that takes place in a world where genetically-engineered animal people were forced to fight a war, and then afterward were integrated into society. So now you have Elephantmen that are cops, businessmen, what have you. It definitely touches on social issues like racism, where the Elephantmen represent the oppressed, and are often treated as second-class citizens.

I've read the first volume and have the second volume sitting on my shelf. It wasn't the greatest thing of all time by any means, but I really enjoyed it.
I'd say the first volume is definitely worth picking up for the $5.99 I think Comixology had it for. I don't remember there being any girls featured in it (since you guys were mentioning the pretty immature way they tend to be drawn in Elephantmen; I dislike that quite a bit too) except for maybe in the very last issue of the volume, and even then, I don't think that was for more than a handful of pages. The comic in general is far from being a collection of scenes like the admittedly pretty ridiculous one Zombine posted.
The art (at least in volume one) definitely isn't the strong suit though. While reading it, I had to make sure not to look too closely at it. It looks nice at a glance (mostly due to the coloring/inking which seems to carry the art) but upon closer inspection it's really pretty poor (again, I've only read the first volume; I know Chris Burnham even makes an appearance as the artist a few times in later issues, so I'm sure the art in general gets better).

But yeah, it's a really cool world that Starkings has written in Elephantmen and I'd recommend checking it out.

I write with way too many parentheses.
Thanks for the impressions. I'm probably gonna pass on the sale (got a lot to read atm) but my shop had some signed trades so I was interested in buying one. I think I'll check it out when I clear out a few books!

That Outcast was pretty great you guys. I dug the hell out of that. Saga was stellar, that one splash yall, absolutely insane. Daredevil was aight, I'm mostly buying that to look at Chris Samnee's work though. Nothing wrong with the book, but I prolly wouldn't get it if he wasn't on it. Ghost Rider is still cool, another book I'm mostly getting for the art at this point.

I read Rocket Girl #1 this week and I enjoyed that a great deal as well. Very very well drawn and the story doesn't look none too bad either.

I also got a commission from Jeff Stokely from Heroes Con, but he overbooked. I should have it sometime in the next week or two. I asked him to wait to post it online untill I got it, I wanted to be the first to see it, hah. I'm excited.

Man, just finished the Wolverine and the X-men Omnibus. AvX definitely derailed it, which is a shame, but the book is filled with greatness at the beginning and end at least. And honestly most of the stuff in the middle is still solid fun, just sadly not as awesome as it could/should have been. Except for the Murder Circus arc. That was just poorly executed all around, even considering it "silly" or "outlandish." What the heck happened there? (Also randomly got me thinking: is the circus of crime still around in comics? I mean, if Arcade can still stick around, then why not?)

But yeah, definitely glad I picked it up. Are there any other X-men runs out there with a similar fun-loving feel like this one had? Also, post re-numbering, new staff version is supposed to suck from what I hear, yeah?

The circus arc was where the series started to take a dive. After that, it was mostly meh story arcs until Hellfire Academy.

Oh, and before I forget again: where did that Azazel plot thread end up heading? It was just kind of dangled there and never messed with. I'm assuming from what I saw that's how Nightcrawler ends up coming back?

Was that in Wolverine & The X-Men? I only remember seeing him in Amazing X-Men, but I may have skipped a few issues of the former.

Weren't there defenders of that circus arc in this thread? I remember mentioning that the quality of WatX took a nosedive after that arc and someone was trying to convince me otherwise.

Can someone please explain Infinite Crisis to me? I'm reading it now and it's feels like a mess of a story with a bunch of jumbled up words.

Have you read the Countdown to Infinite Crisis trades (Day of Vengeance, OMAC Project, Rann-Thanagar War, and Villains United)? Those trades have events leading up to Infinite Crisis. How far along in Infinite Crisis are you?

I'll be honest, Infinite Crisis confused me, too. So do most DC events with the word "crisis" in them.

Brian Wood's X-Men is the worst series I've ever read, but I haven't read nearly as many comics as you guys so it might just be mediocre.

I liked the first arc. After that, it turned into a real shit-show. It's a pity, because I really dig Monet as a character.

Dead

well not really...yet
Holy shit, he is using dat X-treme X-Men rogue costume

Feel compelled to get just because of that

None of those books though I know the general premise of them. I'm more than 3/4 of the way through.

Well...
Kal-L, Superboy Prime and Alexander Luthor, Jr. intended to create a perfect Earth by grabbing pieces from other Earths and combining them. Stupid, I know.
Superboy Prime wrecks everyone's shit.
And since you haven't finished it yet, I'll let you read the rest because some characters die in the end.
That's basically Infinite Crisis in a nutshell.

Also, have you all heard about James Stokoe's Avengers 100th (50th) Anniversary One Shot? It's going to be great.

I didn't think it was that bad. Just completely mediocre and not worth talking about

And Stokoe's Avengers is already in the running for dopest looking comic of 2014

I really wanted to like it. He was using a ton of characters I really like.

That conclusion of Muertas is embarrassing.

How will this ragtag group of X-Men hope to stop Madelyne Pryor and Selene at the same time?!

Then Storm's all "Sup, Maddie. You're alive again. You didn't like hanging around with this lady anyway, so why don't we just beat you up some other time"

The End.

Yeah....hasn't really been that great of an event TBH :(

For those with experience with TFAW, this will be my first time ordering from them. I'm actually just pre-ordering a bunch of figures releasing later this year and have them all in my cart. Will TFAW automatically ship them out as they release or is it similar to other websites where you have to wait until everything is in stock?

Deadpool vs. X-Force comics are on sale. It's mostly the Liefeld/Nicieza stuff, and i might buy all of it. Convince me otherwise, ComicsGAF

You can choose whether your pre-ordered items ship 1-4 times per month. It's under your pre-order settings. Keep in mind, TFAW doesn't allow cancellations of pre-ordered items.

Wow, thank you for pointing that out! Was going to add the iZombie statue to my order as well, but since I haven't officially started the series yet, I think I may wait.

Check to see if DCBS still has the Gwen statue up. I think she's cheaper over there, like $67 or something. TFAW is pretty brutal on shipping fees for statues.

The only problem I have with DCBS is that their website seems so hard to navigate. They don't charge upfront either, right?

man, i'm bummed about Ellis leaving Moon Knight as well - he was way better there than his shitty x-book, and dude's a fantastic writer - but what's with the Wood hate? Demo and a lotta other books he's done are fantastic.

also bummed that the artist is (as i understand it) leaving as well, dude's great

The only thing I like from the Brian Wood X-Men series are the Dodson covers. I suppose the same can be said for Catwoman too nowdays though.

Todays reason for Messi to read the Legion is inspired by the darkness inside of his heart. Lydda Jath, who gains super strength in the dark, aka Night Girl.

What did you commission if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah the covers are really nice. Did Dodson do the covers for the old 2002 harley series too?

Cheska, I got an email back from book depository saying they are looking to ship the books by today. But I has also sent them a second email asking them to cancel my order. The transaction is still preparing to ship on my account even though they said they cancelled it. Will that just disappear or did they mess up?

I dig the current X-Men books until Morales not working for the art anymore, I love the art.. after he leaving, I can't cope with the mediocrity anymore.
