The $150 price tag is a bit alarming, though... no Bone One Volume Edition this.

Calvin and Hobbes is unquestionably one of the most popular comic strips of all time. The imaginative world of a boy and his real-only-to-him tiger was first syndicated in 1985 and appeared in more than 2,400 newspapers when Bill Watterson retired on January 1, 1996. More than 30 million of the 17 Calvin and Hobbes books (all published by Andrews McMeel) have been sold. And now, we're pleased to announce that the entire body of Calvin and Hobbes cartoons will be published in a truly noteworthy tribute to this singular cartoon. Composed of three hardcover, four-color volumes in a sturdy slipcase, this edition will include all Calvin and Hobbes cartoons that ever appeared in syndication. This is the treasure that all Calvin and Hobbes fans will seek.

I can definitely say I want this...doubt I'll want to pay for it, though. I've got three treasuries as it is, but having them all would be something awesome to own for the future.

Man, I already have the complete set, but I still want this. I cannot wait, but yeah that is a steep price tag :/

Ah well, it's still worth it.

If the artist retired after only a decade of drawing those comic strips, what did he do before them? Another series? Something else?

He did political cartoons and other comic strips before.

Here's a nice site that shows off a lot of his old stuff. It also has Calvin and Hobbes stuff you might not have seen before. If you really like C&H, you really should see this site. http://ignatz.brinkster.net/cbillart.html

It'll be cheaper than that, too--I bet Amazon will have a price below $100, just for the promotion. Even at $150, I'm tempted as hell.

This will be mine! I've been waiting for something like this. I have a bunch of the books but definitely not the whole thing and having it all in three organized volumes will be awesome.

I've got the whole collection in paperback, but some of those books are pretty beat up. For a $94.50 preorder I might just have to take the plunge.

Does anyone know if all the C&H strips have been collected in the existing books? Both the Complete Far Side and Fantagraphic's ongoing Complete Peanuts collections each feature about 1,000 strips that were never reprinted since their original newspaper run.

Regardless, this is a definite must buy. So worth having these all in one nice, hardcover collection.

Yes, they're all in there... unless you count the specific ones made for specific newspapers, magazines, or special art, etc.

Look at that website I posted above to see some of the ones you're missing out on.

If you read through that whole site you'll notice that he has this big anti-establishment conspiracy kinda thing going on. Makes one wonder why he decided to get into such a public job in the first place...

well, the guy is deep in hiding now.

there was some article in the last year or two about someone who apparently found out what town he was in, but never found him. Was written in response to the Bloom County guy starting up his new (sucky) comic.

http://www.clevescene.com/issues/2003-11-26/feature.html/1/index.html

The guy has been subject of many conspiracy thories. Supposedly solo-animating a Cavin and Hobbes movie.

Recent rumors say he writes the comic Fraz under an alias. Almost certainly not true, but the guy who draws it definatly took art and philospohy queues from Waterson.

Guy does act like an adult calvin.
