Computer freezing on startup

I have windows XP and on one of my accounts my computer freezes during start up. I dont know how to fix it and need some help. I am currently using a different account but i want to use the other one. It might be one of the bootup programs causing it to stall. Should i go to safemode and if I do what do I do from there. Also if I want to get to safemode how do I get to safemode from the other account waniting to go to safemode on the other?

You push f8 (i think) during boot up and a menu shows up asking how you want to start. Select safe mode, then it loads your logon screen with all the accounts just as usual.

create a new account and login normally with that - sometimes accounts in XP become corrupt.

how do i transfer my stuff there or does it do it automaticlly?

While you are in safe mode and managed to get into your account (assuming you could) copy all the files you had in the profiles folders, copy them into another folder say just make it C:/temp_folder, then log out of that account and create a new account then copy those files back into your new accounts folders.

Yea but none of my programs are there so I would have to re-install everything. I dont know i guess ill figure something out or use someones suggestion here.

Log into your problem account in safe mode and use Startup CPL to check whats running at startup. You can start by unchecking everything u have and see if your account will boot properly, then start adding back programs 1 by 1 until u find the problem.

if your login name is john (from the bust account)

copy c:\documents and settings\john\*everything in here* to somewhere else, that will take your my documents and all that stuff. just delete the bust account and remove that folder then copy all that stuff into the new accounts folder. you should get everything back. well maybe not backgrounds and custom toolbars and shit, but all your documents and favourites etc.

Just don't remove the corrupt account until you are sure everything is how you want it again. You could probably figure out the cause with safe mode and all that, sometimes it's just to much of a pain to bother though.
