Convince me to buy WoW

I'm on the edge of tall building ready to take the plunge. My only gripe is fee's and character models (to me they look poor) but tell me what the positieves are. Convince a former FFXI freak gone back to normal human into taking the MMORPG plunge again.

you can actually level in WoW and still.....have some sort of social life.

I've played 7 or 8 MMO's (mostly in beta) and WoW is the first one that I've enjoyed for more than a week.

I suck at lists:

1. You can level really quickly just soloing or in small groups.
2. You don't need to play 8 hours to complete a quest (though it does take a while to take on an instance dungeon)
3. The artwork, UI, and overall presentation of the game is so far beyond any other MMO that it gives WoW a sort of authenticity that not only makes the world much more believable but lets you attach yourself to your character more naturally.
4. There are actually interesting/worthwhile quests.
5. It's 5:30 am and I have class in 3 hours. WoW sucked me in at 11 and wouldn't let go. Now look at me. *cries, because it hurts so good*

I'm an FFXI freak too, buy WoW. Just make sure to just enjoy yourself, and for the love of god, ignore the community at large.

Remember: Everything is overpowered, everything is gimped, it's the WoW way!.

Now would be a good time to buy anyhow, five new servers opened today.

Most of the server issues reside within the higher end ones, so if you pick a new one, it shouldn't be an issue.

Bugs can be pretty rampant however, but there's nothing game breaking, just minor annoyances, that'll HOPEFULLY get cleared up in that massive content patch that they're working on, but refuse to give us any further information

PvP servers suck, unless you hop on a new one (two of the five new servers were PvP) and play regularly, you're gonna be frustrated.

I have no issues with PvP, I'm QUITE fond of it, what I'm not a fan of is no consequences ganking. It's just awkward and silly how much the obese and depressed can fuck up your play time if they choose in certain situations.

Old school UO remains, to date, IMO, the only MMO which nailed a freeform PvP system on the money. Although I'm sure it was a little too hardcore for some people, the danger was exciting though. :)

WoW is great. Especially if you don't have a ton of time to spend playing it, but fine if you do. The only problems with WoW that I have are the lack of base-character creation options in appearance and Blizzard's apparent lack of get-off-your-ass-and-fix-the-problems...with regard to the server stability and the horrid lack of PVP honor system. Gankers be damned. Of course, you could always play on a Normal server...and then, all that's not good about WoW is the tech issues.

It get no better than running up to a newbie town and fighting guards in another factions zone. Then noobs help the guards, flag themselves for pvp then you stealth away go on a roof and pop em with your rifle for hours lol. Ahh yes every negative reaction has an equal griefing involved lol. :lol

I'm a former FFXI player
I thought WoW was fun*
Get it
I FUCKING HATE THESE 'CONVINCE ME' THREADS -- JUST READ A REVIEW OR TWO

*played during beta

Its has instant gratification!
It feels like console + game!
Sense of immersion or community is nonexistant, even wow diehards say 1 out 3 on any server is total wanker!
So if you like PVP you have endless idiots for next 20 years to kil(though they do like to come in 3s as dont like fair fight, hehe)l!
:lol

At times like these, you need to ask yourself, "What would Brian Boitano do?"

WOW is the Anti-FFXI.

- You can basically solo to the level cap.
- You can jump
- You get cool stuff quicker than in FFXI. You don't have to Level to 18 and do some ridiculous quests so you can become a ninja and get dual wield for example.
- There's less waiting around. MUCH less.
- Not much of a death penalty.
- Better game than FFXI in every single way.

I still play FFXI pretty heavily, but as you know, it's not a game where you can progress much in short play sessions. WoW is the game I play when I don't have large chunks of free time available. It's amazing how much you can get done in half an hour. And... it's fun!

Don't worry about the art direction in WoW. Sure, the character models aren't chock full of polygons, but they're good enough, and everything is animated well. WoW has its own surreal, cartoonish style that just... works.

As for fees, WoW allows you to create a lot of characters per server, all on one account, without additional charges. It's not like FFXI, where every additional character costs you extra money.

You might as well try it. :D

There's only 3 reasons for a new character in FFXI though.

1) Mule character to sell off your items for the lazy/mass selling type.
2) If you ever want to try a different race.
3) To get away from a bad reputation.

90% of people only use 1 as a reason for another character. Since you can level any job you want whenever you want, there's not much reasoning to have a 2nd or 3rd character. You can be a hunter, then switch to Paladin, then switch to shaman. (using wow as an example for what it's like in FFXI)

Exactly. :)

If you still need to be convinced to play WoW after all the Game of the Year awards, outstanding reviews, sold out copies, and nearly universal praise for the game, then I don't think there is anything that can be said here to sway your judgement.

This game rules all. I never played an MMO before and I am hooked! I ask all my console games for forgiveness cuz I may not come back....until Zelda ;)
