So happy there'll be a physical release to import. The PSP games were never released on PSN here.
Both Corpse Party and Book of Shadows are available in the U.S. PSN store and playable on Vita.
Yeah, I know. Juggling PSN accounts is a massive pain in the arse on Vita though.
Any newsletter for when preorders go up? Can't miss it.
Really really really ugly box art though. Is there going to be different art used for the outer box and the box art? I'd have expected to see the original limited edition box for the outer box and the new art for the game case, but "Everafter Edition" contents means that's the outer box? Surely they're not both the same. 'Not depicted in the game' doesn't seem like a very good reason. The new one doesn't even depict the main character (judging by previews, unless it's still switch ups like before)
But some people like it, so maybe I'm wrong. The original artworks just seemed really ominous; scrawled out faces in a group photo with a forlorn look, or leaning against a bloodied wooden stake cross in dark dusk woodsBy comparison, the new art is... a close-up of a red eyeball and a really cartoony electric device. RE: Revelations 2 box art except 10 times cornier. I don't know, I'm just not seeing it.which even if it isn't depicted in the game, seems like it would tie in perfectly with the final chapter of BoS.
If it were the original limited edition box, with the new art for the box art, and a reversible cover for the original art, everybody wins?
Previous "one." Book of Shadows was nowhere near as popular, unfortunately -- the visual novel style really didn't seem to appeal to people as much as the RPGMaker style of the first game. A shame, really, because the game itself is an excellent follow-up.
That, though, along with the drastic tonal shift, made 2U pretty much impossible to justify releasing. We wish we could've, but the numbers just didn't work out.
For those saying it's "non-canon," though, I do feel the need to correct you: although most of the events in 2U are irrelevant to the overarching plotline of Corpse Party, they *are* technically canon.
Also, for those of you commenting on the box art and/or logo:
The "green glowy thing" in question is a set of two Everafter Stones (as we're calling them in English), which are extremely important to the story of the game. They exist on the front cover because they're part of the English logo, and they're part of the English logo because each previous Corpse Party title has had one element from the game appended to the right side of the logo: the first had the blood splatter, the second had the Book of Shadows itself, and the third has the Everafter Stones.
As for the text of the logo, the "BLOOD DRIVE" is taken straight from the Japanese logo, but the "Corpse Party" part needed to be translated. We were going to just take the English "Corpse Party" text straight out of the first game's logo, but the coloring and stylistic differences between that text and the "BLOOD DRIVE" text looked... really jarring. So we adapted the logo from the first game into something that still looks more or less the same, but is more stylistically consistent with the "BLOOD DRIVE" text.
...Oh, and the box art itself was a no-brainer. The regular Japanese box-art is a huge spoiler for the previous games, and makes the game look like some kind of school dating sim, while the Japanese LE box-art depicts a scene that's not even in the game at all (at least, not as depicted). We elected to eschew both images in favor of something a little more representative of the mood and narrative of Blood Drive -- and that eye pic is both creepy to look at and also has a lot of subtle detail in it (for example, did you notice that there's a word spelled out in the cornea? It's in Japanese, but it reads "Sachi." This is a central plot point in the game).

The cover doesn't look too great but oh well I'm just glad we get a physical edition.
I don't think the device to the right of the logo should be there at all it since the glowing green parts clash too much with the colors on it.
The art itself is great, but the font for "Corpse Party" and the green stones just don't work at all. Not a deal-breaker, but it's quite ugly.
I don't see why including the original Japanese cover art as a reversible option is a bad idea... spoilers to past games (not this one) notwithstanding. But yes, we will discuss the possibility of alternate inner cover art and a reversible cover. I can't guarantee anything, but I'll make sure to bring it up at our next meeting.
The font for Corpse Party is the same font as always, though! The only difference is the color scheme and texturing on it, which was done to match the "BLOOD DRIVE" font (which was taken right out of the Japanese logo).

Seems like a reasonable compromise. That or the shot of Ayumi leaning against the crucifix. I probably like that one the best personally.

The eye does stand out and gives you a good idea that it's horror. That part is fineI'm not a big fan of the box art at all. It's nice to know the reasoning behind it but if this was on a shelf in a store it would get lost in the crowd and doesn't really show what the game is about or like.
I was wondering the same when I saw the Lord of Magna box today which has a Marvelous logoIf it means anything Tom, I like the cover.
Anyway, a bit of a tangential question; why do some Xseed releases have the Marvelous logo on the front, while others have the Xseed one? I actually thought that you guys had stopped using the Xseed logo completely until I saw the cover for this.
Isn't that because it was developed by Marvelous?I was wondering the same when I saw the Lord of Magna box today which has a Marvelous logo
I'm not sure there's an easy way to convey "what the game is about or like" in a retailer-friendly way. Daunting job for the marketing department so I don't envy them on this one. At least this is conveying the game's genre - horror - effectively.I'm not a big fan of the box art at all. Best part about Blood Drive = Potato Chip-Loving Satsuki
Here is the Ayumi crucifix artwork I referenced earlier...
^ That looks amazing but I can't see a cover with a bloody crucifix on it happening in the west.
I knew someone would do something like that. muuch betterI did a bit of the edit using the original game CG as a base. I didn't have Photoshop installed on this computer so sorry for the sloppiness.
