So with rumors circulating about ps now being rebranded and adding ps1 and psp games. Sony filed a patent in November for a mobile DualShock controller for smartphones:

We just heard Sony is pulling access to ps now subs by 01/21 in the UK. Would a relaunching of psp help them break the mobile market harder than ever?

Launching a controller with a built in app emulator for now games: ps1,2,p,3,vita,4 and remote play access. Could this be the perfect response to switch and gamepass?

Opinions?

no lol

If they're going to try and push cloud more, then I could see a little clip on controller for your phone.

I doubt they'd emulate through an app on phones.

Gamepass is being offered on smartphones , releasing a DualShock PlayStation controller attatchment with the advertising of every PlayStation generation on the go and new games every month could really be interesting.

Imagine being able to download and stream ps1,2,3,p, and vita with a good controller/PS emulator? I don't see why they can't do that with a new relaunch.

If I had the option to download PS1/2/P games to run on my phone, then I'd certainly consider the controller.

I have issues with streaming games to my phone. The first issue is that 5G availability in my area is shit. In some areas of my town I'm lucky to get 4G.

The second issue I have is with data caps. Streaming a game to my phone will eat up my data in no time.

I wish cos I'd buy one. Switch's success has shown there's still an appetite for a mobile console but Nintendo has that magic appeal for that market that Sony can't seem to capture, so I think they'll ply it safe and piggy back off mobile. We all now have a potential console in our pocket. I haven't tried cloud gaming but Xbox cloud gaming is apparently in a pretty decent state on mobile, I'm tempted to try it.

The only thing that will truly compete with Game Pass is day one first party. Everything else is just noise.

I really hope they do it. I would almost certainly subscribe, especially if they have a PC version with day one releases too. If they don't do that I don't think they should bother. Old stuff and new third party won't cut it for big subscriber numbers - they won't be able to compete with Microsoft's deep pockets for third party deals and they'd have to overpay if it's just on console - picking a fight on those terms would be a bad idea. It's the reason no one cares about PS Now.

I'm excited to see what they come up with - it will either shock us all with how good it is or make us laugh with how wide of the mark they are. Hard to call which it will be. PSP though? That should bring in double digits of subscribers :messenger_tears_of_joy: I'm a little encouraged by their new PC strategy. though, although they need to be brave and get on with simultaneous releases...

Weather it's going to happen or not,if Sony made a new handheld (Vita 2 or whatever)
I'm so there girlfriend.

do you know how unbelievably easy it would be to make the PS5 backwards compatible with 100% of the digitally available PSP library and without using that dogshit PSnow streaming?
my Nvidia Shield tablet from 2014 could run Crisis Core at full speed at 6x resolution scale
basically, ANY modern phone can almost perfectly emulate a PSP, and ripping your own games is as easy as it gets. which means you can already legally use your own phone as a PSP playing device TODAY with minimal effort if you own a PSP

Galaxy S7 (from 2016) using PPSSPP

I literally have me PSPgo set up in a way where I can use my PC as a Dock because the PPSSPP emulator uses my PSPgo's internal folders to read games from and to save savestates into just as if I played it on the PSPgo itself, while it also charges via USB while being connected...

if the PPSSPP port on Xbox One/Series X|S will ever get patched to support custom directory changes I could even use that as my PSP dock! It can already read my games off of the PSPgo, it sadly can't save onto it yet in the current form due to the missing option to change the folder locations

TL;DR noone needs PSnow to play PSP games on any modern piece hardware. with minimal effort you can literally play your entire digital PSP library TODAY on your Xbox, PC, Phone or Tablet... just download PPSSPP, look up how to get your ISO files off of your PSP and load it up to the device of your choice
on PC and Xbox it can be as easy as plugging in your PSP using USB
