i'm just watching this movie again, and it's such a great movie. The fact it is based off of an awesome story is reason enough to like it, but that the movie is so crisp and solid in telling the story and developing the characters is great, too.

anyone else like this flick?

Read the book. You're missing a shit load of story. The movie's good, but a director's cut would've been very nice.

I've been trying to get around to it. They put in a special about the book on the DVD, and it said that even Dumas, after writing the book, was quoted as saying to his grandson that even he was shocked at how good it really was.

Yeah, this movie is damn good. I've been thinking about rewatching this again too... I would've liked a director's cut too.

awesome line:
Dantes: "We are kings and pawns, a man once said."
Vampa: "Si. Who told you this?"
Dantes: "Napoleon Bonaparte."

I really really like that movie for some reason. I'm not really that "into" films, and it might be one of the only movies ever where I can actually say I was concious of the directing. The final sequence in the grass field was just so damn beautiful.

Usually my favorite movies I like because of the characters or plot or eye candy/action... I don't follow film enough to enjoy one because of cinemetography, but so many specific images from Count of Monte Cristo stand out in my head to this day, and I haven't seen it in like 2 years.

Shit man, now you've made me wanna watch it.

It's my favourite book.

And the movie isn't half bad at all. I love the way Dante put the pistol there for Villefort and after he tried to commit suicide, came up to the window and says "Didn't think I'd make it that easy, did you?"

The book was by far the most enjoyable book I was made to read for a school assignment. I rarely read anymore, but I have quite fond memories of that one. I liked the movie also, but it wasn't as enjoyable as the book.

great movie they dont make solid Adventure movies like that anymore.

I was shocked at how well choreographed the last figtht was.....honestly i wish more directors would stop with the close up shaky cam nonsense and just move the camera back and let us see the action.

I ended up watching this in the theatre one night because A Beautiful Mind had sold out and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It was just really good entertainment, and the actress who played Mercedes was really hot. Mmmm. I should buy it on DVD some time.

Edit: Oh shit, Paul Raines from 24 was in it! Luis Guzman! Ok, now I really need to pick this up.
