Yeah I tried filtering, but then i end up with custom maps/deathmatch. Back in the day every server was good old fashioned counter strike. Guess ill just manually test a bunch until i find 1 or 2 to keep in my favorites

These are a few rotation servers I've had success on:

No AWP: 66.18.15.82:27015
Dust2, Season, and Nuke: 66.18.15.82:27016
No AWP, but often on Office or Dust2: 64.94.238.36:27015

A new beta has started today:

Counter-Strike: Source Beta Reopened
Product Update

Starting today the Counter-Strike: Source Beta will be available to all PC Counter-Strike: Source players. As we continue to update CSS and address issues, we want to make sure to not destabilize the core game. By releasing updates to CSS Beta first, we will be able to solicit community feedback before those changes are applied to CSS.

If you would like to be part of the group that helps us test future updates of Counter-Strike Source, please join the Beta - simply install and launch "Counter-Strike: Source Beta" from your games list in Steam. To give feedback on the changes, report bugs, or offer suggestions, please use the CSS Beta forum. Don’t worry, you can join the Beta program and still play the standard Counter-Strike: Source at anytime. The Counter-Strike: Source Beta is currently not available on Mac.

Here are the change notes for today's CSS Beta release:

Fixed prediction errors that were causing greater weapon inaccuracy (bullet spread) on client than server.
Made the bomb the primary target of a USE command. This fixes a problem with objects placed around the bombsite interrupting defuse attempts.
Fixed the ‘skating’ behavior that could occur when a bomb planting attempt was aborted. Also fixes the resulting out of sync hit boxes.
Fixed bug in which a player who crouches rapidly and repeatedly was seen as stationery by other players.
Fixed problem in which the sound of a reload that was occurring when a player was killed persisted into spectator mode, making it sound like a reload was taking place near the spectated player.
Gave chat interface priority over scoreboard to reduce conflict between the two.
Increased size of HUD icons.
Fixed bug with env_hudhint that caused problems when its value was greater than 255 characters.
Added fcvar_archive flag to mat_hdr_level, r_rootlod, r_waterforceexpensive.
Made the message of the day screen dismissible by hitting ENTER.
Improved the look of the font on the achievement toast.
Fix servers not being to set sv_hudhint_sound
Added console variable cl_hudhint_sound
Added cvar sv_enablebunnyhopping, defaulted to 0. ( A value of 1 autotags the server with "bunnyhop" )

Additionally, we've made some Counter-Strike Beta only changes to simplify perf testing. These changes only exist in Counter-Strike Beta and will not affect Counter-Strike:

Disabled HDR
Disabled vsync
Disabled motion blur
Disabled stats

Didn't know where to post it.. (when, oh, when will I stop being a Junior? :P)

A couple of weeks ago I was sworn to secrecy about this but it seems the same people who have demanded I not say anything have gone and told the usual CS:S blabber mouths and as such it's going to be another "secret" that everyone knows about in a few weeks anyway.

Ordinarily I'd not give a shit but given the general doom and gloom that the CS:S community is subject to at the moment spilling the beans might at least lead to some people being a bit more positive about the future of the game.

So yes, apparently Valve have approached several top players from across Europe, as well as J3di from the Zblock team, and have invited them to a meeting in their Seattle offices to discuss the future of the game.

This is the first time that they have ever attempted anything like this for CS:S and it's the first time they have showed any sort of interest in the project since Dynamic Weapon Pricing was introduced.

Anyway, the list of invited people looks good so far, even if some players are still wary that it's some sort of scam and haven't made a decision to attend or not yet. However, the first few flights from those who have provided the information requested have had flights booked and confirmation sent, so their feeling is it's all above board.

Discuss away. Just don't tell anyone. It's a secret.

EDIT: Expect a news post about it all round about the same time everyone knows, making the exercise completely redundant and stretching the definition of what "news" actually is.

Is this "new thread for new news" worthy?

Counter-Strike 2?
CS:S going F2P?
...?

Obviously they're going to Valve to discuss CS2, which is to launch with HL3 next year.

Definitely Counter-Strike 2.

Another refresh of the game is going to do jack-shit in terms of bringing new players or bringing back old ones that left.

As for what CS2 could be? No idea.

Any Counter-Strike veterans wanna chime in on what they want to see in a CS2?

They need to go ahead and implement the better netcode and recoil of the current CSS beta. But dont include the accuracy penalty for jumping while sniping though. I hate that :(

CS:S is pretty much perfect. Other than a lick of paint for new visuals/physics... I don't think I'd want them to change much.

New maps would be nice. I hate that the CS community didn't really adopt the new maps Valve made for CSS.

The ladder climb sound needs to return. I still can't believe Valve removed it. When I race up a ladder in real life it sure as shit makes an audible noise.

It'd be nice if they launched the next big step for the Source engine with CS2 to combat other new awesome looking military shooters :)
