Twitter and LinkedIn living in a Post Malone world
I loved the McCullough episode because I could feel the so-called vaccine hesitants wanting to latch on to his talking points but they really can't understand what he's saying or where he's coming from because the issue is so complex, so really nothing came of it. and anyway if they understood what he was saying, those people likely wouldn't be anti vax in the first place! it was a great podcast btw and I shouldnt have laid judgment so quickly like I did.I do think there are people who are scared, uninformed, confused and those people can have their minds changed, but there are simply too many people ideologically driven no matter what arguments or data they hear. They will completely ignore mounds of data and arguments and interviews and scoff at them, but the second a doctor makes an appearance on a podcast who is on their side, they use that as proof to back up their stance. When all they really did is cherry pick which doctors to believe based on an ideological slant. That's all it is.
Hotez and Christakis make appearances all the time... crickets. Then McCullough or whomever makes one appearance on a podcast and it's "Peter McCullough exposing the lies in this latest podcast"
And I'm like all you're doing is picking who to believe. It's all so stupid.
What gets me about this paranoia about "anti vax" rhetoric, is that you rarely see a discussion about why these dissidents hold the views they do, and why they choose to promote them publicly.
I mean, you can look and see pretty easily if a person has some sort of financial incentive for taking a controversial stance, and if there is one... fair enough then there's cause for skepticism. However when there isn't, you really have to think twice about summarily discarding their view, and certainly about how reasonable it is for them to share their "truth".
Just saying, not everyone who gets tarred with the anti-vaxxer brush strikes me as a cynical grifter.
the gaslighters, the gaslit, and the gaslit that gaslight others
I can't read his mind, but Malone sounds like he's upset that he didn't get more recognition for his part in the pioneering of the vaccine. What gets me about this paranoia about "anti vax" rhetoric, is that you rarely see a discussion about why these dissidents hold the views they do, and why they choose to promote them publicly.

No, which is why there's things like critical thinking, skepticism, empirical data, academic education, and logic that we can use to analyze the information we are given so that we can separate the real from the plausible to the fake to the bullshit.Just because there are dishonest dealers, and rubes that buy their snake-oil, does that mean we should just believe every word that spills from the lips of an establishment that we KNOW to be corruptible?

Nope, didn't feel anything besides a sore armFeeling really bad after my Moderna booster. I had no reaction to my first two Pfizer vaccines.
Bad leg pain, headache, sore throat, vomiting, cold and hot sweats, etc. Did anyone else have a rough time with it? I got it done on the 30th and I'm still absolutely out of it today.
Over 95 percent of reported cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in Germany occurred in fully vaccinated individuals, according to a new report from the federal government.
Just 186 people contracting Omicron were unvaccinated in the entire sample, showing that vaccinated individuals were over 21 times as likely to contract the COVID-19 variant

People buying into the anti-vax BS are for the most part starting from a conclusion and working their way back, cherry picking to form a narrative that conforms to their feelings or group think tribe. Or, just putting their trust in the wrong people.

Let loose the GAF math mastersBad math.
Stop looking for a strawman to fight. There are plenty of "rubes" spreading shite in this thread with no financial incentive whatsoever. You can ask them why they do it.
And you are nowhere near as smart or as righteous as you evidently believe yourself to be.
bless your heart thanks for the ad hominem, please keep them coming
You started it. I just finished it. /Blisted

Strawman argument. If someone is arguing against mandates due to discomfort with autocratic measures, that's legitimate. It's also baseless and hypocritical, but it's still a legitimate argument. If someone is doing that but ALSO claiming bullshit "facts" about the vaccines and spreading misinformation that leads to FUD surrounding the vaccines, and refuses to take it for irrational reasons, then that's an "anti vaxxer".And I'm just saying that "anti vaxxer" has become an awfully convenient generic slur to be deployed against any critic of how our institutions are handling this crisis. The conflation of people who's position is based on discomfiture with autocratic measures like mandates, or a desire to seek non-mainstream approaches to health and treatment, with the lunatic fringe who thinks all vaccines are part of a global conspiracy plot is deeply dishonest.
Mind bogglingly stupid. Vaccinated are not 21x more likely to get Omicron, rather the share of vaccinated people out of the infected reflects the share of vaccinated people in the general population.
Which is what you would expect, given that he vaccine does not protect against Omicron infection.
Itās backwards logic like this that convinces people to not get vaccinated and costs lives.Fresh Omicron news from Germany (using official federal sources). Very good news for unvaccinated people.

I'm just sipping my morning coffee, brain still cloudy after probably one too many drinks last night, and was going to reply to them but I thought to myself "this is just so stupid. It's like explaining basic arithmetic to an elementary school child".
I did click the link though and that site, LOL. Why do all of these grift lord sites all scream "WE ARE CORNY AS HELL AND HERE TO GRIFT YOUR DUMBASS LOL - NOW PAY US BECAUSE WE KNOW YOU WILL YOU CREDULOUS NITWIT - I MEAN PATRIOT"
(Banner from that "news" site)
"but at the same time as one of his other guests who are the other side of the COVID debate so they can debate it out"Joe needs to have someone like Peter Hotez or Nicholas Christakis on again or Jamie Metzl, but at the same time as one of his other guests who are the other side of the COVID debate so they can debate it out. That would be interesting and productive.
Joe has gotten way too much heat for very lukewarm COVID takes that were disingenuously reported to demonize over the past year and change, but I did get a little annoyed at him a couple episodes ago where he had John Abramson on talking about Big Pharma, and when they got to Omicron, he kept saying that we don't have enough data on it yet to know how deadly it actually is and Joe kept interrupting him and saying "but no one's died from it in America, not a single person. So far it's like the flu." Joe is usually better than that. Even with the vaccines, having not gotten it himself, he has always said people should get it and it does prevent severe illness. But at least with Abramson I felt he allowed his frustration with the pandemic overtake reason. He's human it happens, so I wasn't up in arms about it, but it did annoy me a bit.

Look at this thread and search for the terms "anti vaxxer" and whom it's attached to. You'll find that your persecution is more imaginary than real.
I just have a hard time myself taking anyone seriously, from either side, who commonly use terms like āgaslightā or āstrawmanā. Maybe itās just me. Itās fucking annoying.
These words get thrown around so much, that I feel like the people who use them, ironically are trying to either use them as a āstrawmanā as they would say, or are actually just psychologically āgaslightingā themselves in the process and donāt know it lol.
Can we just stop using these buzzwords and talk like normal, pre-2016 era people?
Lolā¦thatās your takeaway? Iām poking fun at where we are as a society. Dude, you sit at your keyboard on standby, ready to police anyone who has a different opinion than you. Kettle, meet pot. Iām glad you found an identity you can latch onto to survive in this weird world, but try and give some others some space and allow them the same privilege please. Thanks.but all youāre doing is trying to control peopleās language
