I really wish places would stop reporting infection numbers as if it’s relevant in places where there is 90%+ vaccinations like here in Australia.
We know the vaccine doesn’t stop you getting covid. We are all going to get it at some stage, that’s not what matters. What matters is how many that get it end up in ICU. If 20k people get it one day and 19.99k of them only have a slight sniffle and a few aches thanks to the vaccine then that’s a massive win. All they’re doing is giving antivaxxers ammunition.
Tbh at this stage the vaccine has been ready and available for anyone that wants it for months. I’m in favour of just opening up everything for those of us that are vaccinated.

I disagree with this guy because his dog walking example with no scientific proof is the kind of thing governments are pushing because it's a precaution. Also, I remember dog walking here in Ontario in 2020. They had exemptions too like if you wanted to go outside to exercise or walk a dog you were allowed, but if not you were supposed to stay home and only go outside for work or buying groceries.
Pretty sure dog walking exposure isn't the type of scientific study at the top of every city's covid list. And even if it was on the agenda, it'd take months and months to determine if covid goes up o down due to dog walking.
I thought it was ridiculous dog walkers get to go outside. Go walk your dog in your backyard or have him stay home until covid is over. But no dog owners want their dogs pissing and shitting on their own property so of course they want a rule saying they are exempt because nothing makes them happier than Fido taking a grass burning piss or dump on someone else's property.
Sometimes in life you got to go with what is reasonably logical.
At my work, weve been WFH since 2020, but the plant and shipping areas have workers as normal. They got to be there since you cant make shit at home. There's no proof that if office workers were at work it would make covid worse. Our facility is split and you dont even get people intermingling buildings except the cafe.
But still, there's no proof done by anyone saying people would get sick. But the logical decision is to distance people from one another if they can and so office workers are WFH until further notice.

If cities want to crack down on covid, then do it. If that means dog walkers stay home or people in Ontario arent allowed outside to exercise (which they were allowed), then it should be clamped down for all. As opposed to exemptions. Same goes for "I cant do vaccines due to my religion". That's another garbage reason somehow passed by governments. I never knew the bible had a section in it about medical vaccines.

You've used the word logical in your post yet have used none of it.
Humans can exercise outside all day long, not just between 10pm to 5 am, and can plan accordingly.
Not everyone that has a dog lives in a house and they need to take the dog out for a walk before heading to bed so it can relieve itself outside. My German shepherd would not take a shit outside unless we were about a 5-10 minutes walk from our house.
I can't believe you're comparing animal behaviors and needs to humans who can plan their daily activities otherwise.
Especially when walking your dog alone at -22 degree Celsius like it is outside right now in Qc means absolutely nothing as far as COVID measures, you're all alone by yourself in a winter wonderland.

If people are allowed to exercise all day and night (except middle of the night), and people can walk their dogs, it means more exemptions.
Anyone out there can be for or against whatever exemptions there are. For me, if government is serious and wants to clamp down on rising covid cases, then stop giving exemptions. If they want loosey goosey covid rates, then have loosey goosey covid laws.
But what many governments are trying to do is limit people doing unnecessary stuff to prevent spreading. There's no scientific study or anything, but more of a preventative thing. Sometimes a sports arena is limited to 50% capacity. Sometimes it was 15,000 Blue Jays spectators (out of 40,000 max capacity), then it was double to 30,0000. Now I heard it's 1,000 Leafs fans for Scotiabank Arena (holds about 20,000). There are no studies out there to pinpoint exact metrics to use.
But just because there's no studies, doesn't mean it should be a free for all and max out capacity at 100%.

Interesting. I'm glad you're not feeling too bad. I've mostly been reading and playing games, gonna get a few days off work sick too.
I feel like my booster may have made my symptoms worse. The joint pain in my legs was pretty unbearable the day afterwards. I'm a long-distance runner, and it literally felt like I'd just finished a fast half marathon or something.

Got my booster on the 30th. Symptoms appeared on the 31st - assumed it was side effects from the booster.
Took a COVID test to confirm they were side effects that came in positive yesterday. Didn't leave my house since the booster due to feeling unwell, only to get my PCR test done.

Its not a good precaution because due to the way the virus spreads by aerosol transmission you have a far lower chance of contacting it outdoors than indoors. Not to mention that forcing people to live under curfew and such is the sort of draconian measure that would only be justified if we were facing a disease with the sort of potential for mortality as Smallpox or Bubonic plague.

Considering that Russia also is playing around with stuff like this introducing new laws (for example the law about evacuation in case of emergency declared by the government or new rules about mass burial during peace times or the new rights for the police to break into houses) I wonder at one point on the west people will desire something like this considering how radicalized the vaccinated are becoming. The food is having distribution problems, I have already received mine, but from what I've seen from my Wechat feed, lots of people got their already. Might exist some cases where the food didn't get there or was misplaced. It happens, and this is all happening so fast so they make sure everyone gets their fair share. Another thing, the government is cracking down hard on price rises so shop keepers don't take this as an opportunity to get more money. Prices are basically the same here, and local shop keepers are actually allowed to take orders through Wechat and deliver to the community doors (that's how every community in the district here is working). Online shopping is not working, how can someone say on Weibo that they ordered online 4 days ago and it's not coming? The order button doesn't even work if it detects you're in Xi'an. Delivery guys are only working to deliver food to hospitals and workers, they don't accept orders to deliver at home.
Do I agree with this? Not really. But this is not the Omicron variant, it's still Delta. The government is afraid of this spreading like wildfire right before CNY, where many people want to return home and spend time with their families. But is it working? For two days the cases are going down, if it keeps going like this, in one or two weeks we can go outside again. But I have a feeling that even with the Omicron variant, they would do the same, and I also have a feeling it will happen right after CNY.

Not getting vaccinated, even though you have multiple risk factors at once, is obviously not smart.
But basically what happened is this: Two severely overweight individuals with multiple pre-existing conditions (diabetes and more) died from COVID. The virus was certainly not the sole reason for their deaths, but the final catalyst, given the circumstances of their lives.

Yeah, it's the food being given by the government. Last time I've heard, they don't have enough people to deliver them, because they actually deliver them door to door. When I got mine yesterday, they were clearly in a rush, as they had to deliver to more people (This is a city of 13 million, imagine the logistics hell that it must be to guarantee that everyone gets their food). The package is the same for every household and it's enough to last 3 or 4 days for a family of 2 or 3. It's a good quantity of vegetables. I think they will deliver more in the near future.
The shop-keepers system here, and in other communities AFAIK, you add the shop-keeper store Wechat, and you send him a message with what you want. Then, after paying, he will personally deliver them at the community door where you or the security guard can pick it up. He never enters the community and you never leave. Even local fruit shops, vegetables shops, they are working but not open to the public, they accept orders and do exactly the same process of delivery. This is what I've been experiencing, as well as other people i know, but for sure there are places that are more strict ( I know that Yanta and Chang'an District are way more strict).
Currently, since the cases are slowing down for two days now, they actively advise against people ordering stuff from shop-keepers at least for a few days, because of how the virus can travel through surfaces. They want the cases to keep going down and everyone is already tired of it (we've been closed for almost two weeks now). But my community has a couple that everyday sells vegetables and some other stuff on the first floor, really cheap and pretty convenient, so I'm not too worried.

right, organising food for millions of households at such a short notice is an incredible feat but it seems like at least in your area they are well practiced for it and the fact everyone gets that basic food support is something at least, even if most probably supplement with private deliveries from the local grocery stores
hopefully it'll come to an end soon when the cases drop below whatever threshold they've set, and it's always good to read some experiences outside of the usual Western countries on here

This city lockdown was actually made as an emergency. The day they had the meeting they rushed to close the city. We've been having cases since the beginning of December, but it was like 2 or 3. Suddenly it jumps to almost 100 in just one place, so they decided to close because they had no idea where this was coming from. It sucks, but it is what it is.
I'm tired of being home but I think at least two more weeks. Usually they wait until no new cases, wait for one more week to see if any case pops up and then reopen.

It’s because most can’t imagine what pain it inflicts on a person that is dying from COVID or to lose someone to it , unless they witness it themselves, and have weird symptoms for months,they also can’t imagine what would have happened if we would just let it rip through the world , a small version Will play out in the USA with all kinds of services disabled and not provided , Instead they do a numbers game .. like lives are numbers .. and easily recreated .. very sad this all.
