BC has come up with some new rules also.Looks like Ontario is giving up on lockdowns. Despite still very high covid counts, they are opening things up in stages the next few months with full access March 14.
Were still at 4000 daily covid cases. Which is still sky high. That count is even higher than in 2020 when we were hit with full lockdowns. Gov has finally realized covid isn't the type of thing to go down to zero, so you got to open things up instead of being bubbleboy forever.

Ontario announced it will allow indoor dining and gyms to reopen and will increase gathering limits on Jan. 31 as part of a three-step plan to ease COVID-19 restrictions in the province.toronto.ctvnews.ca
Been sick since Friday, no idea if its Covid (doesnt really matter). Not bothering to get tested as I WFH and if I am sick regardless of what it is I am not going to be around people.
3x vaxed, just feels like a sinus infection to me, so I honestly think its not covid.
Lmao. I'm not even positive yet and im staying home since Wednesday.
It only works if people do the right thing.
Are there some covid positive support groups?
My throat hurt but not that bad, I’ve had way worse. no lung issues here, mine are coated in thc lolMy wife is 3x vaxed and tested positive on Friday. Her symptoms include sinus, throat, and lungs abnormalities. She feels much better today as her symptoms have lessened.

Whether or not you were vaccinated, keep track of your symptoms on a calendar so you know when to end your home isolation. You can discontinue home isolation when:
*Some individuals with severe illness or compromised immune systems may need to extend the duration of isolation for at least 10 days and up to 20 days after symptom onset, please consult with your primary care medical provider. If you are severely immunocompromised, please reach out to your primary care provider to see if there are any outpatient treatment options available.
- You have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication AND
- Other symptoms have improved AND
- At least 5 full days* have passed since your symptoms first appeared, OR you tested positive for COVID-19. Day 1 is the first full day following the start of your symptoms or the day following the day your specimen was collected.
- You should wear a well-fitted mask around others for 5 days after stopping home isolation.
What to do for isolation:
For those that have been EXPOSED to COVID-19 (person tested or close family/friends):
- Monitor your symptoms. If you have difficulty breathing, shortness of breath or chest pain, seek emergency medical care immediately.
- Avoid contact with other members of your household, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.
- Use a separate bathroom and stay in a separate room from other household members, if possible.
- Don’t share personal items like cups, towels, and utensils.
- Wear a well-fitting mask when you need to be around other people.
- You have been exposed if you have had close contact with someone infected with COVID-19. You would have had close contact if you were less than 6 feet away from an infected person(s) for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.
- If you are unvaccinated or are more than 6 months out from your second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after J&J vaccine) AND have not yet received your booster dose:
- You should stay in home quarantine for 5 days after exposure, followed by strict mask use for 5 more days and monitor for symptoms and get tested if you start to have symptoms.
- If you have received your booster dose or had COVID-19 in the past 90 days (tested positive with a viral test):
- You do not need to stay in home quarantine following an exposure but should wear a mask for 10 days after exposure.
- It is best to get a COVID-19 ANTIGEN (Home or Rapid) test 5 days after exposure whether you have been vaccinated or not.
- If symptoms occur, you should stay in home quarantine until you get a negative test result to make sure you don’t have COVID-19, then wear a mask for 10 days from your exposure.
- If you are unable to get a test 5 days after exposure, you can leave your home after 5 days if you have been without COVID-19 symptoms throughout the 5 day period. Then wear a mask for 10 days from your exposure.
- The date of your exposure is considered day 0. Day 1 is the first full day after your last contact with a person who has had COVID-19.
I guess we're still sitting around waiting for the Great Reset. This thread is awfully quiet these days lol. Must have something to do with the narrative collapsing.
BC navigated the pandemic well to this point. We haven't had the same degree of problems or to shut down like our neighbors. Vaccine rollout went fairly well with three quarters of the population getting vaccinated right away. None of the antivaxx hysteria manifested. There weren't the same harsh restrictions as out East. Even got to have a couple of elections where if people didn't like the restrictions they had a chance to vote for less restrictions, so these restrictions and pandemic response weren't dictated but democratically selected.BC has come up with some new rules also.
Maybe it's time to live with covid in our lives as it's been 2 years and we have got nowhere. Maybe this is natures way of telling people to live healthier lives, eat better, and stay away from fast food and exercise.
I'm tired of this shit.
Got my PCR test done just this morning.Unless you are clinically vulnerable and/or absolutely need to be with your parents, I suggest you ride this out with your gf. As you see from the charts and experiences here, Omicron is uncomfortable but hardly dangerous to vaccinates people with no co-morbidities.
The case is that you have already had substantial exposure so you would need to isolate anyway. At this point, best just get it done and relax until the next variant comes around.
When I tested positive my wife stuck around, slept one night in a different room, and caught covid. Now we are both done with it and can get on with our lives.
I'll agree if we get another bad strain its going to be close to the straw that broke the camels back but in general the vast majority of the population are doing the right things. I'm next door in Alberta and we were slower to get to BC numbers but we are at 90% now at least one shot and 86% two shots or more but people keep getting it but the serious cases are mostly the 10% unvaccinated.BC navigated the pandemic well to this point. Following covid restrictions and being constantly self aware of one's behavior during waves for years is exhausting. Especially if fighting multiple fronts on an individual level.
Even with the easing of measures with this wave Health is saying that Omicron likely isn't the end at all. Smaller viral loads to get sick with Omicron can be fought off Covid by the vaccinated now. But speculation of another mutation which has that same quality and is harder to fight in the body could be very dangerous. And people are rightfully exhausted, it's hard to keep up. If there is another wave of something wicked coming it's the one that gonna hurt since the herd is tired.
What is there to discuss? No country has any hopes of controlling Omicron so all there is to do is wait for the population to become infected and pray that no worse variant pops up. Omicron seems to hospitalize people at lower rates compared to Delta (I've seen anything from a 50% to a 90% reduction) so obviously people are less afraid of it in spite of the high infection numbers. This thread is awfully quiet these days lol. Must have something to do with the narrative collapsing.
That's so stupid.First day where the PCR test will not give you access to a lot of things in France, you need to be vaccinated.
(yes, you need to be vaccinated to go there)
It's not stupid. Vaccine doesn't prevent the transmission but it greatly prevents hospital admissions. It doesn't actually matter if everyone is infected as long as nobody will get to hospital. That's so stupid.
More than a million of vaccinated and boosted people are currently getting breakthrough infections with Omikron each day worldwide.
Just wait, it will be here any day now. They have the sheeple where they want them, now it's time to put their plan in to action. What was the plan again?I guess we're still sitting around waiting for the Great Reset.
So go and get infected at the eifel tower as long as your vaccinated and then infect your unvaccinated relatives at home? But let's make sure they can't infect themselves at the eifel towerIt's not stupid. Vaccine doesn't prevent the transmission but it greatly prevents hospital admissions. It doesn't actually matter if everyone is infected as long as nobody will get to hospital.
Vaccines do prevent transmission. Unfortunately just to a much lesser degree every passing month with new variants and waning immunity. And they apparently weren't even awesome at that to begin with.So go and get infected at the eifel tower as long as your vaccinated and then infect your unvaccinated relatives at home? But let's make sure they can't infect themselves at the eifel tower
If that would be the goal (the new moved goal) it's finally time to protect vulnerable people. Restrictions and protection for old people and those with comorbities along with unvaccinated middle aged people.
Unvaccinated young people are so much less at risk than vaccinated old people.
It's stupid.
Germany is now also implementing the next stupid policy.
No more PCR tests if you had contact with an infected person. That's the only way to catch an infection early. Rapid anti gen only turn positive a few days later.
But I'm probably stuck in 2021 where I thought not infecting others was the goal to fight this pandemic.
You see the problem here is Covid moved on, the vaccines didn't. The vaccines are still targeting the original virus from 2 years ago, not Alpha, Delta, Beta, Omicron etc. This is why they don't work as well at preventing infection or preventing you passing it on (sterilising immunity). They do still work (as proven by hospital numbers, that should be a LOT higher given recent infections levels ) at preventing severe illness and death.Vaccines do prevent transmission. Unfortunately just to a much lesser degree every passing month with new variants and waning immunity. And they apparently weren't even awesome at that to begin with.
And that was the goal but here's the elephant in the room. COVID won. So now we have to pivot. Sorry if that's disheartening but if it makes you feel better the vast majority of the world has moved on and nowadays covid discourse is more vivid on reddit or NeoGAF message boards than amongst actual people to people societal discourse. Or through interpersonal conversations. We tried I guess for a few months domestically and globally we tried our best for a year and a half to zero avail. As evidenced by current case counts in a post vaccine society. Supposedly our greatest weapon against covid.
It's like this, we all thought last spring that the vaccines would save us. Turns out they kinda suck at blocking COVID. Or even just blocking symptomatic covid. The narrative quickly shifted to "well uhhh, it won't be AS bad if you catch it, victory right?" Despite many vaccinated people getting very sick. On top of all of this you can still spread it. Now don't get me wrong all of these are at a LOWER rate than the unvaccinated but yeah its still not great.
So it went like "Well now I got my shot I can't get infected! Oh what's that? I still can? Oh... bummer. Well at least I'll be asymptomatic. Wait what? I'll still likely get pretty noticeably sick? Huh... well at least I won't be spreading it to grandma or my friends or anyone in public. Wait wait wait I can spread it to many people all the same? The fuck." Left a lot of people feeling disillusioned with the vaccines which further drove away the dumbass anti vaxxers that were anti vaxxers before we knew all of that post delta and omicron.
So now nobody really cares in the real world as everyone just about has been infected multiple times over and/or gotten vaccinated and boosted. The severity of the illness is basically nothing to most people and now the dominant variant is even more mild so the world has by and large mostly moved on. Because we have no choice. People realized covid was never going to be beaten after the vaccines didn't do what people thought so they all said fuck it.
I do not expect any new vaccines to be more than an incremental improvement. Our immune system is a weird fucking beast and it just doesn't take to fighting some infections like it does to others. Some diseases you get and you have immunity for decades, some it wanes in a couple of months. We don't really have a good handle on the 'why'.You see the problem here is Covid moved on, the vaccines didn't. The vaccines are still targeting the original virus from 2 years ago, not Alpha, Delta, Beta, Omicron etc. This is why they don't work as well at preventing infection or preventing you passing it on (sterilising immunity). They do still work (as proven by hospital numbers, that should be a LOT higher given recent infections levels ) at preventing severe illness and death.
New vaccines are in development that will target the newest variants and multiple variants in one shot and offer sterilising immunity.
This thread is awfully quiet these days lol. Must have something to do with the narrative collapsing.
The co-hosts weigh in on the comments made by the comedian over the weekend on his show, ‘Real Time with Bill Maher.’
The propensity for a virus to change its RNA and its presenting antigens around is a big factor. Some diseases you get and you have immunity for decades, some it wanes in a couple of months. We don't really have a good handle on the 'why'.
Or it could be there just isnt anything to discuss anymore. The facts are the facts. This thread is awfully quiet these days lol. Must have something to do with the narrative collapsing.

"Narrative" lol
What is this narrative specifically, and how is it collapsing? This thread is awfully quiet these days lol. Must have something to do with the narrative collapsing.
It is mainly western country who try to believe covidf is over; it is not. In Hong kong they are limiting school to half day to prevent spread and even japan is locking down soem county.
I would like to know that as well. What is this narrative specifically, and how is it collapsing?
That is a very strange way of saying that the media is reporting the facts as they know them at the time, but I will try not to judge.Well, lets be honest there has been very much an orthodox set of "truths" pushed in the media since the beginning of the pandemic.
That is a very strange way of saying that the media is reporting the facts as they know them at the time, but I will try not to judge.
Because there isn't one. There are the facts that are known and accepted the by vast majority of the scientific community the world over and then there are the people who are mad that the facts do not line up with what they wanna hear and the grifters that try to tell those idiots what they wanna hear in order to personally profit from it.It seems to me the mainstream media hasn't done a good job of giving balanced exposure to a plurality of scientific opinion.
The only reason lockdown does not work is people do not follow it. Like for example they ban restaurant from having dine in, it DOESN'T sto peopel from getting takeout and having a party in a house. That’s the mistake. With omicron there is very little chance of “limiting the spread”. Observe England vs Wales/Scotland. The latter locked down hard and did much worse with omicron.
So from that point it’s “over”, there is little chance of going back to closures as they don’t help with omicron. Of course the virus is not over, never will be - but it’s not a big deal anymore.

When people think about COVID-19, they think about life and death, being prevented from going to their favorite places, having to wear a mask, and what they are going to do with their kids through the various schooling scenarios. What everyone seems to overlook are those of us in the middle who didn't die, but who also haven't survived, yet. There is a middle ground that makes up the largest impact of the pandemic and that is long COVID. Failure to educate and advocate for the needs of long-haulers leaves them without jobs, financial assistance. Long COVID is long, and it will have an impact on our health and the national economy for decades to come.
An extremely sad precautionary tale involving long COVID
I've suffered from 'long COVID' for 2 years. I lost my job, can't pay my bills, and am in pain every day.
"I've had a headache every single day since March 15. I relive the worst aspects of my life even in my sleep, which is part of why I don't sleep."www.businessinsider.com
Medical marijuana is my most expensive medical cost besides the doctors who I pay cash for, who are all the specialists. During my long COVID journey, I've seen 20 specialists — nine of whom I see regularly, three of whom are cash or out-of-pocket.

My workers' comp payments ended December 31, 2020 after a doctor dismissed me, saying my symptoms were psychosomatic. I also stopped receiving funds from the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, and I was denied disability.
That was one of the most psychopathic responses I've ever seen someone have towards another human discussing their chronic illness. Jesus. Thank goodness for the ignore feature.
Kenpachii long haul COVID is a well documented phenomenon and a lot of people suffer from it. The only thing you've heard about is lung damage and all the problems associated with that, but the world is a lot bigger than what you just heard about.
There's lots of cases of long term damage that COVID19 causes to your lungs, heart, brain, and sex organs, among other things.
1.) Even if the doctor's "diagnosis" is correct, psychosomatic symptoms are still real 2.) Since the cause of long COVID is unknown, there is no diagnostic test for it. See here for example:Guess her doctor is also a psychopath and with that the whole medical industry is also ignored by you probably? as he straight up calls her nuts? and after what she posts u honestly start to wonder if she actually is.
That shit is killing me as a hypochondriac1.) Even if the doctor's "diagnosis" is correct, psychosomatic symptoms are still real 2.) Since the cause of long COVID is unknown, there is no diagnostic test for it. See here for example:

My lab has found significant microclot formation in long Covid patients. Unfortunately, these are missed in routine blood testswww.theguardian.com

Ignoring the fact that human beings understand tragedy precisely through individual fates, long COVID is a societal problem that will need to be addressed as part of the process of returning to normality.Oh look, it is still about tragic individual fates, posted by the same people as always, while more and more countries are returning to normality.
It will be interesting to see what percentage of mentally ill patients will have to be treated because they no longer find any meaning in their lives after COVID ended. Maybe it will help those affected to pray every day: "Thank you vaccination and Omicron that this pandemic has now ended. God, send me strength to find a new meaning in life that does not consist of fear mongering and not understanding basic context.".

One of those groups deserves to be reported on and the other one does not. You do not need to give coverage to people just because they have an opinion. Especially when it goes against reality.
