Covid is exploding in China

I think they claim it is a Chinese cover up.
It was covered up. Something bad happens, their first instinct is to lie about it. The whole thing with Li Wenliang made that obvious. But was covid deliberately released? Probably not. Most likely someone pricked their finger in the lab and thought “I’ll be fine,” and walked out the door.

I have absolutely zero doubt that they initially covered up the extent of the spread of Covid in China, which meant the rest of the world didn't have time to adequately prepare before the pandemic hit. The CCP always puts its own self interest first, and it hid covid from the rest of us, so it wouldn't have to admit it had a killer virus on its hands.

And now they have a weak vaccine, because they're too proud and stupid to work with the rest of the world, who could have given them a far more effective one.

Honest to god, the destruction of both the Russian and the Chinese state would leave this planet far, far better off.

The amount of people with antibodies there is going to strongly determine how this goes for them. Viral loads and access to treatments.

Even without the tracking apps and stuff many will still live carefully and follow an isolation procedure. The big difference is no enforcement stopping those who don't care.

The problem is, we have no way of knowing what information is correct - and what has been massaged by the government to make things seem better. They say that 90% of Chinese have had a vaccine dose... but can we really trust that? And they say the sinovac vaccine is very effective... but can we trust that either? I say no, on both counts.

And the Chinese people have all been under a zero covid strategy, where they can't build up any natural immunity either.

Very cool.

People who tell you they had Covid last week are the worst. Like, are we still doing this? I just had a raging diarrhea the day before yesterday but you don't hear me going on and on about it.

No but people tend to mention when they have had the flu recently...

Of course if you want to set up a false equivalence using the flu kind of destroys that so I can see why you used diarrhea.

People who tell you they had Covid do so under the auspices of "beware around me and take all the precautions that you see on TV". If someone told you they had the flu last week you'd more than likely answer with "oh well glad you are feeling better now" and then go on about your day.

Yeah I think that's how the work place deals with covid mostly although recently people are tired for a few weeks afterwards (noticeably) so we make a few allowances and having caught it when I went in to get my annual flu-jab can confirm they ain't BS'ing.

Sucks but you live with it like the cold or flu I don't think getting annoyed at it is going to help. It's not like people are supposed to go into an office when they have the flu and if they do they get there ass sent home before they infect half the people in that day.

There is a theory out there that the CCP is filtering out what type of information is coming from the country and most of it is a week or two behind.

Basically, the idea is economic warfare, where they open up again and export inflation(which has been low in China due to the lockdowns) to the rest of the world, particularly North America, where it'll be sticky, but has yet to peak based on this theory.

The COVID numbers are at this point a bit of a red herring.

Since the beginning of the Covid crisis one thing is cristal clear. You definitely can't trust statistics in authoritarian non democratic governments.

One thing is a "free press" democracy with political opposition with problems to identify and measure the virus statistical tendencies. Other completely different is an autocracy without any accountability giving random numbers through state media. (Eg. Russia, China, etc.)

This is why the US, Brazil and other big countries were the leaders in cases/deaths and not China.

We will never know how things developed there.

From REUTERS:

The first wave would run from mid-December through mid-January, largely in cities, before a second wave would start from late January to mid-February next year, triggered by the movement of people ahead of the week-long New Year holiday.

China will celebrate Lunar New Year starting on Jan. 21. The holiday normally sees hundreds of millions of people travelling home to spend time with family.

Fuck. Ground them all.

My dog has diarrhea last night and today. It is actually pretty sad. I feel terrible for her. Poor puppers.

I just imagined people literally exploding and it made me giggle.

You're gona feel like it when you get it

I was double vaccinated and still it hit both myself and my partner really hard. She was unable to speak during the first few days due to throat inflammation getting really bad.

To this day still got this metallic taste in my mouth after I've eaten something and she can't taste or smell. I can smell without issue so she was pretty much immune to any covid farts from either one of us. Jokes aside though you're gonna be in a bad way with this thing so keep safe, check your 6 and always make sure you lock you doors.

Take care people. This virus is no joke.

My family got it when kids went back to school. The OG version. We were vaccinated.. it wasn’t bad at all .. no bad coughing or anything. The worst was losing my sense of smell and taste.

Almost everyone I know in China, and everyone they know, seems to have caught it. It's really out of control.

A billion people getting infected over night...I wonder what weird mutated strains we're gonna end up with?

This! Exactly this! And: Over two years we saw nearly 0 cases in China and everyone wasn’t believing the numbers. And now they suddenly are reliable?

Not true, Western covid, BLM and the Ukrain just kicked it out of your news cycles.

It never left.

Death statistic on YourWorldInData right now is still 0. Yes they had a surge in march and right now (although it’s already going down again). But:

Don’t. Trust. Any. Numbers. From. China.

I wouldn't say everyone doubted it. I remember posting that China's numbers were clearly fake at the beginning of the pandemic on Slashdot and someone replied that the math proved they were real. (Yeah, even their early numbers that I saw on worldometers.info made it clear their number were fake.) So yeah, there's shills that will believe anything. Anyway it would have been nice if they hadn't covered it up because at least there would be chance we'd find out how it jumped to human populations. (Which in theory would give us a chance to prevent another disease from jumping the same way.) Fat chance of that now.

Boy I am fucking scared, not only I nearly died from Delta Covid, but my current situation with some surgery of bile duck blockage in Liver (and underlining meds), means that I can't get booster shot. And I can't get it for half a year at least. I have anti-bodies and quite a lot of them due to having a long Covid back in 2021 + vaccination.

I mean, when does it end.

Most of last year all the outbreaks were reported in double figures, the numbers went up in October but they were reporting way higher asymtomic than symptomatic. Then last month they merged those numbers and only reported a total. The best gauge you can have is whether they close the schools or not. Schools are now closed.

Fingers crossed all this spreading doesn't create a dangerous new variant. The globe has already suffered enough due to China's backwards health and hygiene standards.

So far, the B7 variant that started in China hasn't made much of a difference elsewhere. We're all so vaccinated up, with so much community immunity, that it doesn't look like anything new or dangerous has been able to catch hold.

The Chinese are fucked, though.

You'll be a'ight.

My cousin is a family doctor and has been acting as locrum accross the country for severe covid cases. He has literally cared for thousands of long covid and critical dovid patients and has become a sort of expert in dealing with it.

I too was in a similar situation and he has said that, from what he has seen, most people who have long covid became somewhat immune to later variants. The longer the illness was in the body the more antibodies they and got way less sick. My whold family got the latest variant 2 weeks ago and I didnt even get symptoms, nor felt sick at all, after spending 3 weeks inside with my kid and wife who was sick with positive tests.

Obviously grain of salt here, but, what he is saying is Long Covid patients tend to develop more long standing immunity to later variants.. that is just what data he is seeing,

IIRC, the first wave really started after everyone from China partied from the chinese new year then went back to their countries and it slowly started circulating in europe after that. Either that or tourists FROM china caught it during the chinese new years celebrations then brought it to other tourists destinations like Italy and NYC which is why those places were hit hardest initially.

Middle america really didnt get it until summer and winter of 2020 which is why everyone was so weirded out by it all. no one in the midwest had it for a good few months. thanks to the lockdowns of course, but I am a 100% certain covid was around in some form way back in chinese new years in December 2019.

Whatever strain they have today is going to come to the U.S. Mark my words. Get vaccinated if you can. (Sorry Mulch). It works. My wife and youngest 4 year old got covid when they went to England last summer. their idiot relatives went to turkey, came back with symtpoms and decided to welcome them without getting tested first. Everyone got it except for my oldest who had been vaccinated just 5 months prior. He must have had anti-bodies from his last vaccination. my wife never got a booster shot before traveling and had let almost 12 months pass since her initial vaccination, and of course ended up getting it. Im pretty sure if she had gotten the booster shot, she wouldnt have caught it.

Be vigilant. Get a flu shot too. Been sick for the last six weeks. You all dont want this flu shit either. trust me.
