Yes people did. Not everyone, but literally an entire region of Italy got locked down. Ski resorts were locked down (not soon enough, but it happened).

And there were concerns about a new variant evolving in India. One managed to likely evolve in the UK, so a country much larger increases that probability. This is almost the most basic science and statistics.
Oh, and India literally had piles of bodies piling up to be burnt.

After so much politicization it seems plausible that might have added more noise and confusion. The health threat was taken as more important than protocol.
India and Delta was given a lot of attention here. They wanted to close airports and such. If the data and threat supported it then it would have happened. There was a lot of push for it though.

It's unusually cold here in the south of China for this time of year sub 10 degrees. I've got the sniffles. Is it Covid, no it's just cold and these apartments are near impossible to warm up. Now think about how many people don't have that critical thinking. This same time last year there were cities in the north locked down, it warms up and Covid goes away.

Here's all the information you need: covid has become endemic, and deaths and serious illness have plummeted since the vaccines were rolled out. The same thing that happened with all other pandemics where vaccines were introduced. I know a lot of people want to claim otherwise, but they're conspiracies are just not borne out by the hard numbers.

We're lucky SARS got noticed by an Italian doctor when that first happened so they had a chance to actually shut it down before it spread. Yep and it’s not just rural areas far off in the countryside either you don’t even have to go 5 km outside Beijing to experience a lack of basic plumbing or roads. The big cities have older buildings with sub par infrastructure too and don’t even get me started on the disgusting public school toilets…hell almost any public toilet for that matter. People just destroy bathrooms for no reason like the worst Rest Stop or National park toilets only worse because there’s almost zero daily cleaning or maintenance and the toilet might be a trough or porcelain hole in the ground.
I taught there for 2 years and go back every few years to visit my in laws for reference and trust me I’d rather shit in a run down gas station toilet in rural America than some of the places I shat in China. Almost everywhere is like a BART toilet but fewer to zero drug needles.
