I got the Funimation version, but I am starting to regret not going with the Amazon one. We'll have to see when it arrives.

It was ok, just felt like something lacked after all the Gaf praise, its better written than most animes, i suppose.
good they are releasing the BR.

See, it's all about expectations. Your bad for buying into inflated hype. When it first came out and had no baggage, it was just this amazing new anime that came out of nowhere. You had the misfortune of listening to people hype it up the ass for the next 12 years or however long its been now.

What I don't get is that for the price most people are paying, you could just spend a little more and get the vastly superior Japanese set.

I've actually thought about picking that up, but as a dub guy I never bothered. Not even sure it has English subtitles.

Edit: beaten badly

Funimation package just shipped. Didn't even have to call them, which I was going to do. I guess whatever was going on with my card got fixed. I'm so stoked right now. Anyone have the Amazon package shipped yet?

Not yet.

Amazon orders usually ship late. Even release day shipping. I have guaranteed delivery next Tuesday through Prime, but it probably won't ship until Monday.

What are the chances of it going up after the rush dies down? Never dealt with anything like this before.

there is always a chance, it is just a matter if you want to risk it or not

For me, I just plan to keep it. I think it looks cool and will fit nicely on my shelf.

Bleeeeeh, applied a gift card to my Amazon order and the delivery date changed to the 18th.Oh well, two extra days of waiting. Got me an extra month of Prime, though.

According to some people online, the video quality for the US release is exactly the same as the UK release.

Winter Wonderzac @ANNZac

Bebop blurays look identical to UK set. 90s digital effects look weak but that's unavoidable w/out million $ remake. Cel animation looks A+

Sheesh. I like the show, and decided to grab to Amazon version when it was cheap, but those eBay prices are crazy! I may just sell mine and grab the standard Blu Ray edition.

Amazon started shipping mine! No way in hell will I ever sell it. Shit would have to be $1000 for me even to consider it.

Just three more days...

wait when is amazon shipping?

They usually start shipping for me on Sundays and I'll get it on Tuesday. I don't know if it depends on where you live though.

I have the amazon one preordered and after a week of debating I have decided to keep mine. I can't wait to see the show in HD and look at those art books!

Couple of reviews.

blu-ray.com

Anime fans are getting an early Christmas present this year with one of the most eagerly sought after anime releases in recent memory. My descriptive powers are probably woefully inadequate in being able to detail how manically enjoyable this series typically is, with a whiplash style that never feels like an assault, but more like a just slightly out of control roller coaster ride. While this release isn't absolutely perfect, it's generally excellent from both a technical standpoint as well as its supplementary package, which is exceptional. Highly recommended.

Blu-raydefinition.com

Both are positive overall. Good to see it from blu-ray.com, their reviews are pretty solid to me.

I was going to buy both and sell one to a friend, but I can't decide with which one I should part. The vinyl record case is very cool, and super-collectible at, what, 5000 units? That Amazon box art, though? Ooh it's awesome. Maybe I'll just keep both and get him the standard as a gift.

Holy shit @ the ebay prices. but I have quite a few anime sets that go on Ebay for ludicrous amounts of money. I just wont sell them.

Sorry if this has been established already but I'm just now finding out about this. Idk how the FUCK I missed this. So the Amazon exclusive edition has been up for pre-order already and is completely sold out, but the regular Funimation version is still in stock and being sold by Funi and Amazon? Is that correct?

Correct. There were 10,000 Amazon sets printed and they're sold out. Same goes for the 2500 special editions from Funimation. But the standard edition is still widely available.

Honestly, you aren't missing too much. I like the packaging of the special editions, especially at the initial $70 price, but none of the physical extras are mindblowing. And the on-disc extras are identical to the standard set.

Whats with Amazon getting exclusives to special editions on anime? I saw they had an exclusive for Space Dandy.

Gorgeous, but only 1 season? And isn't Space Dandy not very good?
But yeah that's interesting, I dunno. Maybe studios just see that they get a ton of business through Amazon. I know that's where I get basically all of my non-Criterion blu-rays.
I definitely get my movies there for the most part. Unless there are decent sales elsewhere for new releases.

It's not nearly as good as something like Bebop in my opinion, but it's a fun watch for what it is. Just have to set expectations accordingly. It's a goofy ass show without much of an overarching plot. Nothing like Watanabe's previous work.

edit: also yeah, over a hundred bucks for 13 episodes seems like a lot. Unless I'm missing something. Could be wrong, I don't buy a ton of physical anime.

Phew. Ok thank God. Yea tbh I like the regular Blu-Ray cover way more anyway. The HD and standard features alone have me sold. I would've liked those art books doe. But I ain't payin' no $300 dollas fa dat shit fuck dat noise. Thanks for the info though. :)

Edit: Holy fuck. Is there actually any news on the Outlaw Star NA release?!?!?!! Sweet Jesus, I'd be all over that shit in a heartbeat.

It's nothing like Bebob and Champloo. Very comedy focused, loves to pay homage to sci-fi and pop culture movies and tropes, and being as lewd as possible but in a respectable kind of way. Season 1 starts off slow but gets good. I haven't watched season 2 but I hear every episode is amazing.

Goddamn, $116?? Seems pricey.

Maybe Amazon noticed lots of people would pay a lot of money for anything by Watanabe lol. Bebob is currently #1 seller in anime. If Amazon sold out of the 10,000 exclusive copies then the regular edition must be selling a lot.

Yuup. At the time it was a breathe of fresh air. No one had seen anything quite like it before. It was a stylish, edgy, easily accessible, east-meets-west sci-fi serial that just oozed 'cool' when there was nothing comparable to it at the time.

In the same way Pulp Fiction was a punch to the gut for U.S. movie goers, Cowboy Bebop was for anime fans in the U.S.

It it's but it comes with a bunch of BS extras driving the price up. I went with the regular non-exclusive Limited Edition for $50.

Lol. Nope. Space Dandy is amazing. The people who said it wasn't good were expecting another Bebop or Champloo and it was never designed to be anything like either of them.

Is there any particular reason why some people find the Funimation version to be more desirable other than availability?

And I pre-ordered the Amazon version via reflex when it first came out. I hadn't even thought there'd be a regular version.

Maybe I'll sell mine! ;)

The funimation edition is packaged in a collectors box in the form of a vinyl record and comes with a display easel. Looks beautiful, completely impractical for most.

Bummer! That actually sounds neat; I just read that the Amazon version had more content, so I went with that.
