$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
So slap in a few more seconds of Fay fan service and charge anime fans 30 bucks for a handful of episodes. I'm there! :D

I love Cowboy Bebop. It's by far my favorite anime of all time. But I already own all 26 episodes on DVD.
As do I, but not like this. In my opinion it's worth it for the 5.1 treatment alone, not to mention the new extras and remastered video. When this set was first announced a few months ago there was talk of Kanno commentaries as well, so that's another plus.

Any chance of a UMD release? I'd buy that...Just because it'd be so damn cool to have. But I doubt it would come to UMD...But Bandai has signed on with Sony to release movies on UMD correct?

No info, but it could definitely happen. Bandai is actually starting to bundle UMDs and DVDs in Japan and has announced some anime films for the format domestically.

well not really...yet
Gah this does look nice...but I already have the perfect sessions set and Bebop is hardly worth rebuying :\

I'll wait for the BR/High Def whatever version. Obviously they won't be able to get the video quality up that high, but at least I'll get like all the episodes on 1 or 2 discs.

This is super hot if you don't already own the set though. I still can't believe they don't offer a boxset. Fucking animals.

I'll buy it.

Hopefully it makes the price of the original domestic box plummet so I can own that, too.

Can anyone point to them to compare?
I'm not sure what you mean here. Do you want me to compare the packaging?

Anyone know what the deal is with the "newly animated scenes"?
Bandai hasn't said yet, but I'll be sure to post any info when it becomes available.

this is awesomeness, I had to sell my original set of Bebop DVDs when I needed cash last year so they will be quickly replaced by this

It won't really be $30- all (or most) anime DVD's have an msrp of $30 but sell for $19.99 or a little more at Best Buy.

Hence the SRP. :)

I fully expect each disc to retail for $20 or so at Best Buy / Deep Discount DVD. When this license was announced a few months ago a six-disc release was confirmed so that'd make REMIX $120. Bump that up 10 dollars or so if they release some sort of box. So... $130 compared to 40000 yen (~$370) for the Japanese original. I'd say that's a win!

A lot of this was covered back when this was first revealed: http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=36154

Ah, OK!

All of the discs come in that little white box, each in a different type of packaging. They're made to look like other forms of media, such as a BETA tape, a CD jewel case, a record sleeve, a film reel, etc. Really ties in well with the spirit of the series and is just overall spectacularly designed. The problem is the video is straight off of the Japanese laserdiscs and as such leaves much to be desired.

Our release, on the other hand, will have cleaned up video and slightly generic packaging. You'll notice that REMIX 1's cover art is extremely similar to the original R1/R2 release's volume 1. A box is yet to be confirmed, too.

Some bad news...

According to Andy Patrizio (IGN DVD, although I think he may have left recently), the "newly added scenes" statement in Bandai's retailer newsletter referred only to the remastered video they received from Japan. So nothing new content-wise. Horrible, confusing wording on Bandai's part.

Here's the sentence from the PDF:

"Completely Re-mastered and Remixed and newly animated scenes with 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound!"

Maybe what they meant was existing scenes have been re-animated and cleaned up (in the "restoration" process)? Not entirely clear at this point.

Holy fuck, I want that!

It's pretty damn amazing, isn't it? The price is just absolutely insane or else I'd own it myself.

If you're serious, CD Japan seems to have it in stock again: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-2022

Just note that we're getting the superior version, despite the enormous packaging disparity.

On another, semi-related note... I hope this new Bebop renaissance causes one of the domestic anime distributors to get off their collective asses and RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACKS domestically. What's the deal with that, anyway? The best anime music of all time and we can't even get one disc out here? OST1 came with the perfect sessions, I know, but that hardly counts.

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
Geezuz Kreiss! More milking of Bebop? Fuck. Give it a rest already. I've already seen the series like 7498729495747 times. No amount of cleaned up video would make me wanna watch it again.

We get milking after milking of either Bebop or Evangellion, yet we can't get domestic R1 releases of Macross fucking Zero, Macross 7, Macross DYRL or even Naruto. The anime industry is so lopsided.

Macross is tied up in licensing hell, and Naruto is coming :p

Edit: God knows why anybody would actually want to OWN Naruto but hey different strokes for different folks.
