Crackdown 2 possible, says Realtime

Sandbox action title Crackdown could spawn a sequel, developer Realtime Worlds have revealed, speaking to bloggers VG247.

The future-based crime-fighting game was an Xbox 360 hit, and studio chief Colin Macdonald admits his team regret not moving onto a sequel.

"It was a horrible, horrible decision that we still dwell on," he notes, before adding, hopefully: "But I don’t think the door’s closed. Obviously, right now we’re tied up with APB and everything else, but hopefully in the future we’ll have the resource and something can be worked out with Microsoft."

"We would have loved to have seen it. We poured five years of our lives into that game. You know, we’ve got guys on the development team that have Crackdown tattoos, permanent tattoos on their arms. We’re extremely passionate about it," Macdonald said on the prospect of a second game.

More on Crackdown 2 one day, then.

Possible is better than not possible.

Crackdown stands firmly in my top 5 of this gen...one seriously fun-assed game.

I bet this spawns a new late to/back to the party thread :P

I like it to.

APB looks like no joke though. After playing GTA IV multiplayer though, APB doesn't sound quite as fun anymore. After playing an hour + of cops and crooks, its hard to imagine a game based almost completely around that type of gameplay. Of course there is more to APB especially with the customization, but...meh.

Crackdown 2 please.

Unfortunately this interview pretty much confirms a Crackdown 2 no earlier than 2010 if that.

Hmm. Sounds like the blame for the lack of a sequel goes to both MS and Realtime. MS for not asking for it and Realtime for not even thinking or planning for it.

Oh GAWD.
CRACKDOWN2 with 16players and minimal lag, plz.

OMG
OMMMMGGGGGGG

OMG, YES! ALL OVER MY FACE DAMMIT!

Crackdown is the most pure fun I've ever had in a sandbox game.
IMO Crackdown is the one and only Sandbox game.

My favorite game this gen.

Unfortunately I no longer own a 360. Is the Crackdown franchise Microsoft owned or is there a chance we'd see a sequel on PS3?

Crackdown 2 = Crackdown with a new city and destructable houses please.

If this:

Day 1

Crackdown 2 + Red Faction 3 destruction = :lol. Simply to much fun. Obviously it's extremely unlikely to happen but holy shit...

i still play crackdown, and i bought it on release day. easily one of the 360's best games. a sequel is absolutely needed. C'mon, RTW, i want to give you 60 bucks. let me give you my money. just make the game.

Make it happen! I had a lot more fun in Crackdown than I did with GTA4.

I think a lot of us did. I know I've put at least 70 hours into Crackdown. GTA about 25.

Do it!, do it!, do it!. I hope they get on to it soon. These guys seem really capable and it's a shame their still tied up with apb, i'll say it again they are one of my favourite devs this gen.

Wow, I'm surprised how much they regret not making a sequel immediately.

But if they did I would absolutely love it, Crackdown was one of my favorite games so far this generation. And hey, if they had made a sequel and improved upon an already awesome title, Crackdown could definitely become one of the best new-IP's of this generation (if it already wasn't for some people ;) )

Unfortunetly my 360 suffered from RRoD and is being repaired at the moment, so I haven't been able to back to the game for a while :(

I really liked Crackdown, and they could expand the game a lot in a sequel. But even with what they just said out there, at best, it won't come for a number of years.

Good thing APB looks totally amazing. I'm really looking forward to it.

Woot Crackdown sequel. You know it's coming though. the possibilities are mouthwatering. Crackdown is the only game i can remember for a long time, Where 7 hours flew by and i was just exploring the islands looking for orbs and generally messing about:lol .

As for APB it seems to have had a bit more care taken of it in regards of fun MP things to do.
well if those videos they showed at the GDC are any indication.

Dave Jones has always pushed the importance of fun in RTW games R* seem to have become preoccupied with making overly cinematic games which while good are terribly restrictive In the way they allow you to approach things.

Crackdown's story was it's biggest asset for me, just surface detail here's the bad guy go kill him and then give us lots of options in how to go about doing that also the knock on effect of killing the different lieutenants and seeing the way it affected different facets of the gang was fascinating. :D

Fantastic news.

In the meantime, how bout you RTW guys stoke the creative fires a bit and give us some more DLC. I have to imagine MS is still kicking itself repeatedly for not ordering up a new one in time.

Music to my ears!

I thought there was no chance of Crackdown 2!

Do it! DO IT!

It would instantly be my most wanted title!

Only a new Thief, Homeworld or Freespace would be more sexy to me!

Yes, please. Pretty please. Crackdown is such a wonderful game, easily one of the best in the genre. If a sequel happens I will be very happy :)

It was a horrible, horrible decision that we still dwell on

Damn right it was. Crackdown was (hell, still is) friggin awesome. I think they should make us more Crackdown DLC in the meantime to make it up to us.

MP development experience from ABP will definitely improve Crackdown 2 MP.

Hope MS doesn't go to other developer and screw it because Realtime is busy with ABP. I can wait.

Is Realtime big enough to work on multiple projects?

Crackdown is still my favorite online game - I have never had as much "pure" fun in a game or laughed as much. Bought the DLC - 1250/1250. Ready for sequel. Get busy RTW!

If they were i'm sure CD2 would already be in development but they sound small-ish.
