Crackdown 2 possible, says Realtime

Not a huge sandbox fan, however I had far more fun with Crackdown than GTA IV. To be honest, I'll go back to Crackdown one day and just have shit loads of fun collecting the orbs. The consistent framerate, unlimited draw distance, clean graphics and vertical fun just made it in a class of its own.

It was missing a real story though. But if a story mode could only involve picking people up and taking them to destinations for 40 hours like GTA, then fuck it.

Oh hell yes - being possible is the direction I wanna see instead of not being planned!

One of the most fun games I've ever played, period - forget asking if it was for this gen or not... and I made the decision to buy the game BEFORE the Halo 3 Beta was even announced...

Please do this Realtime Worlds!

Just contract another developer to work on it (using the first games engine) and have Realtime and Microsoft oversee its direction. This should have been done already.

I wonder why RTW regret now turning down MS's offer. Is the other game they are working on not progressing in the way they initially imagined? Anyway, it's a shitty situation, because no one's here to blame actually and Crackdown had so much potential to be a classic series.

It's funny that eveyone has different ideas as to what would make Crackdown 2 better than the first one. IMO the first one lacked epic boss battles with enemies as powerful as tha Agent himself, with some rooftop chases etc. That would be so cool.

At least there are similar games coming out, hopefully Prototype and Infamous will also nail the fun and addicting aspect of Crackdown.

Without the orbs they are nothing, nothing i tell you. :p

Also as good as they both look Prototype and Infamous seem to be a bit too 'serious'.

The thing i love about Crackdown were the bright colours and tongue in cheekness and of course the utter awesomeness of the Agency Director.

"It was a horrible, horrible decision that we still dwell on," he notes, before adding, hopefully: "But I don’t think the door’s closed. Obviously, right now we’re tied up with APB and everything else, but hopefully in the future we’ll have the resource and something can be worked out with Microsoft."

Translation: Holy shit guys. We just blew all our money on APB and we need some profit$.

I love throwing 10 remote detonation bombs on the front of a car and then driving it into a gang stronghold, detonating it where the most enemies are, then have another agent come in and clean up.

Or you could drive the bomb-ridden car into pedestrians and detonate it for lulz.

This is correct. Without the orbs, stats/power upgrade methods, weapons and of course co-op etc, they pale in comparison.

Just give CD2 a more fleshed out story, for those who care. Add more weapons, agency vehicles (boat!) and super powered "agent" baddies to fight and I'm set. Wouldn't mind the ability to create a "custom" Agent either. :D

I was playing a few days ago and was about to take out the boss in the stadium north of the first island. So I steal a gang van and harpoon 5 guys to the front of it, making a makeshift bulletproof shield (:lol). Then toss a few remote mines on the rear and drive it straight through the front door, ram through everything in my path and slam right into the leader pinning him between it and a wall. I hop out, activate my invisibility and walk out in slow motion leaving the rest of the gang wondering what the hell just happened. Then... *click* BOOM!

I thought the boss battles were good I had fun with Wang in particular. Dodging some of his underlings, getting to him, taking him out and throwing him off the building was so much fun. I really liked the idea of always having the bosses there. It was nice to kind of attempt to take them out without going through some underlings. Just testing out how far you could get tactically.

Saying that though I think it would be interesting if they changed it up a bit. Still leave the Bosses accessible and always ready to take on. Though make the boss battles more than scaling a huge building to get them and using the same methods you did with their generals. I'd like to see them make the boss battles a different game altogether. Possibly give them their own agent like suits. Make it just one on one after a point of weeding through the smaller guys. Mix up the gameplay probably. Like have rooftop chases/fights, air (helicopters!), chases/fights using elements from the environment to help achieve the task etc. Then when the boss is weaker fist/close combat with gauges now and then to determine who wins a scuffle. Or something like that. I'd like the bosses to feel strong/proud enough to fight the agent on their own after a certain amount of their men have been taken out or something.

APB looks really cool but from what I read it's PC only so I won't be playing it.
If Realtime and Microsoft work something out and make a sequel I'll be there.. day one.

There was no MS offer. Hence, RTW off doing APB. Place that bullseye on squarely on MS's forehead.

RTW shouldn't tease it's fana like that, that's just cruel. But man, I get giddy just thinking about it. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

MSFT...are you paying attention!!

There was an offer from MS, but it came to late and they started to work on something else.

That brings up an interesting question: eactly how far into APB development was RTW by the time it was obvious Crackdown was a hit? I kinda find it hard to believe they couldn't have just changed direction if money was waved in front of them.

Crackdown sequel would be very nice, but they REALLY have to take it to a different level. I got bored with game after a while (granted, I'm talking like over 40 hours for sure) because there wasn't enough actual GAME stuff to do. It has the best achievements in a game ever and that helped the game out far more than anybody expected.

Oh, and make the stunts less cumbersome. Those things were evil.

=D HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY

Make it in the future. I want to jump off buildings onto flying cars.

Now there's an idea! why not throw in flying skateboards Hobgoblin style too ^_^.

So... (Crackdown ending spoilers)
who wants to be AGAINST the Agency this time around? or possibly some kind of good/bad pendulum a la Fable? Something I would LOVE to see is the ability to be dropped into another player's game-world as either a bounty hunter for the gangs/civvies or a hunter for the Agency to take out a rogue agent who has gone too far. Set time limit to register a kill and score yourself a nice bonus for your own SP/co-op game.

Every now and then, I imagine an epic battle with an enemy super agent atop the skyscrapers in Shai-Gen. We're fighting at sunset, and hurling objects at each other - pipes, air conditioners, innocent sun bathers - while dodging rockets and leaping from building to building.

I imagine this while fapping.

Yeah, it would be pretty cool if you could go up against other Agents instead of gang bosses.

Guys remember back when everyone was ripping on Crackdown, and you bought it because you thought it could be decent, but mostly because it had the Halo 3 Beta? And then your sheltered world exploded with the awesomeness that was CRACKDOWN?

Oh how I wish to experience that again.

APB is also coming to the 360.

Oh, God, please be true

I have never played a demo every night for 3 weeks. Except Crackdown.

One of my top 3 games of this generation. Please, please! I will buy 4 copies, just make the game!

I think a lot of us did. I know I've put at least 70 hours into Crackdown. GTA about 25.

Orbs and character evolving obviously play a huge role in that. I've played a TON of Crackdown, and yet the only gang I've totally erased are the Los Muertos. I'm sure I've not even been to every place on the other two territories.

Crackdown rewards you for having random fun while GTA IV doesn't give you shit for wading through borefestland, obviously one of them while get more playtime than the other.

Don't think I'd want a story though, because this would inevitably hamper the freedom of the first game.
The "you have to clean up gangs, do whatever you want wherever you want" is one of the best aspects of the game, and a story would not allow for that.

Actually maybe some kind of hard DLC like Criterion is doing for Paradise would suffice, I know it's bad but I don't see what major thing they could add to the first one, except more vehicles, a new Island, maybe new weapons, etc.

An awesome "free roam" mode a la GTA IV :D
