Anyone have feelings of deja vu every now and again? Like I've been in a situation before, with the same people and same setting? I get it every few months, but I used to get it all the time when I was younger.
When you find out what deja vu really is, it makes it much less exciting. Or I should say the hypothesis behind deja vu.

I've got one that happened to me.

So my wife and I have an apartment.
We have a water-cooler that uses 4 gallon jugs.
I changed the water jug yesterday.
(these things usually last us 1-2 weeks)

I used a little water yesterday after changing it but when I went to use it today it was completely empty.

I seriously do not know what's going on. It didn't leak out or anything..
The only logical explanation is that somebody broke into my apartment and drank all of my water (3+ gallons).

HELP

Not really creepy, but I have a door in my apartment that closes like clockwork when the air conditioning or heating turns on due to a pressure difference. I've been awfully tempted to try to freak someone out using this.

I bought this a couple of years ago, Unsolved Mysteries was my favorite show as a kid and even these DVD's still freak me out.
I don't get freaked out by movies, being in the dark alone, being in the woods and it being dark alone but this show had some goddamn freaky ass episodes that would just absolutely creep me out.

fuck me, I hate reading this stuff but I love it also. I can't tear away from some of these stories... I'm gonna be jumping at every sound tonight. sigh.

When I was 7 this weird situation happened to a friend and me and to this day I still remember it and I always think about it whenever I read a thread like this. So my friend and I were best friends and generally on weekends we would hang out at either one of our houses. This happened at my friend’s house. We use to hang out in his basement, it wasn’t very big and there was a little room off to the side that was where videogames and what not were, kind of like a room for the kids. We were big on camping and we spent a lot of time outdoors (obviously we were younger so we couldn’t go anywhere really but we would set tents up in the backyards at night or our families who were close would go on camping trips). So during the winter we were at his house and we sent a tent up inside in this room just for the hell of it we thought it would be fun.

The one night we stayed in the tent (reading comics and crap) and the next day when we opened the entrance we could have sworn the entrance was facing the entrance way but we were facing the TV which was strange but we shrugged it off.

So another one of our friends came over the next day and generally we had the houses to ourselves when parents were at work so we would play hide and seek and things like that kids would do. We decided to play it one night with no lights and here is where things got weird. The downstairs in the basement area there is a little room against the one wall which was storage, very small and narrow enough for one person to move through. I went in there turned the lights off and hid near the door, the room was narrow but at the back there was this little bit of wall that went in. While I was standing in there I noticed a light green like almost outline by the part of the wall that went in almost as if someone was standing in there with their back against the wall, you could see what looked like someones shoulder and arm sticking out or something in that type of shape. In this storage room there was an old shelf that was not stable with some cans on it and yes while in there something fell off which scared the crap out of me I turned the light on and ran like hell out of there and didn’t even check anything. Anyways at the time we laughed saying basically I got scared and we chalked it up to just that, maybe I had knocked something while I was in there.

I never mentioned about the greenish thing I saw I figured after I turned the lights off my eyes were just being screwy. So two weekends later after staying at my house we stayed at his again and when you go down the stairs there is this part above the stairs where there was brick that was cracked, we always commented on this as if someone had banged their head on it because it was like you kind of had to duck to get down the stairs. So we stopped on the stairs on the way down our other friend was behind and my friend whose house it was ,was hitting the brick while we’re talking he wasn’t really doing it to cause damage just a knock and the brick shifted around abit so he pulled on it and it came out. When he pulled it out he noticed a book in there, he reached in and pulled it out. The book was a thin book that was like a light red cover with yellow Chinese lettering on it. We took it downstairs and looked in it. A few pages in (not sure how many) some of the pages were scribbled on with black marker it was what looked to be a childs book as there was pictures on the pages that looked like those of a kids book. Other than that a few pages were torn out. We showed this to his mother she had no idea said it was probably just from someone who lived there from before.

So about 3 weeks passed and everything was normal. Then one day when we were at my house on the swing in the backyard my friend told me this weird thing that happened to him. He told me that he was down in the basement playing games (usually shut off all the lights down there when we play them) and he had the volume down a lot because it was late and everyone was in bed. He told me he turned the TV off and proceeded to head up stairs to go to bed. He told me that he saw this very light green shape at the far back wall area he said it looked like something was sitting on the ground but it was partially hidden from where he was standing it was behind a freezer on the floor. He then told me of a sound he heard it was feint kind of sound like someone exhaling but it kept going he said he ran upstairs because well whatever was happening scared him. I then told him that I saw something similar on that one day.

Of course then we were both terrified to go down into that basement. 2 weeks later we kind of shrugged it off and I was staying at his house again. Same type of scenario we were downstairs playing some games I was watching him play, volume low and we were pretty quiet because everyone was sleeping. I kid you not we both heard this noise again like someone exhaling but it kept going immediately we looked around to see if we could see anything we looked out into the main area and nothing was there, we turned on the lights and booked it out of there.

After this we mostly hung out at my place and about a month later they moved out of that house down a few blocks into a bigger house and it was funny because I was helping them move (well helping my friend and my parents were helping them as well as our families were close) and we overheard his dad telling mine to just toss the shelf because things kept falling off of it. To this day I still remember this and it bothers me it leaves so many unanswered questions and every time these threads come up it’s the first thing I think of.I know this sounds cheesy as hell like out of some crappy horror film but to this day I still remember this perfectly and so does my best friend.

Do you happen to know the people living in the house now? You should totally go do an investigation!

I wish I did I would love to, not knowing bothers me because its just so weird and the fact I still clearly remember this to this day says something.I should pose as a fake paranormal show. I wonder if the book got thrown out or is still kicking around.

Not really creepy, but I have a door in my apartment that closes like clockwork when the air conditioning or heating turns on due to a pressure difference. I've been awfully tempted to try to freak someone out using this.

The other day was in the office and its a back room in a sun room of a house, door was closed but then it opened. But when it opened it full on sounded like the latch opened etc. instead of just swinning open from the wind.

I've been tuning into Mysterious Universe ever since I saw all the recommendations on GAF, and damn i'm hooked. Some really creepy stuff sometimes, but also just entertaining and fun guys.

The last episode about Ancient Astronauts was actually interesting, even more so by the fact that they know all about (and use) the meme, lol.

I hate it when this happens.

This is a story I heard from a friend of mine, it happened to a coworker of his. She Moved into an apartment a few months back with her son, who's about 3 years old. After a few weeks the boy started coming into her room in the middle of the night, complaing about a monster that was scaring him. When she asked him about the monster, he told her that it was black/shadowy with red eyes, and it called itself Sunny. Sunny would tug at him and pull his sheets off. She would let him sleep with her, but he kept coming to her in the middle of the night saying Sunny was scaring him. She started to do some research and asked the land lord, and apparently, a man had killed himself in her sons room, years ago, and his name was Sunny. She didn't know what to do so she let him sleep with her until she could find a new place to live. Then, a few weeks ago, she updated my friend on a new occurance. They were in her room, she was doing something while her son played with his toys. Suddenly he started complaining that Sunny was scaring him. She asked him where he was and he pointed to the doorway. She looked and didn't see anything, but he kept pointing and asking her if she could see him.

What was she doing? WHAT WAS SHE DOING!?

Edit: Ah, buzzkill. Totally creepy though.

Wow, that's creepy as hell. Sounds like a classic Shadow Person situation. Checking this thread out reminded me of a dream my brother had this week. As he said it, he was here at home I believe in his room. He sees a woman walking away from, dressed in a white dress with black hair. I think he called to her or something to that effect (it was a couple of days ago so I don't remember every detail).

She turns around and he notices her eyes were completely black. She then starts walking towards him and he starts to panic and shakes himself out of the dream. He then looks at the end of his bed and she's standing there looking at him. He then goes WTF and apparently shakes himself out of another dream. At this point it was four in the morning and he just ended up staying awake since he was so spooked. He cut most of the lights in the house on, lol

I know that story is a lot tamer than a lot of other stories here but I thought it was creepy. I don't think I've ever experienced that whole "dream within a dream" myself.

He didn't go deep enough.

This is a story that happened to my brother. He isn't the type of guy who makes stuff up just for kicks, so I believe him.

He and two other cousins rented a place to sell computers. They went together to see how the place was. For the price the owners were asking, it seemed to be fair (nothing spectacular), just a big room with a small bathroom. When the 3 of them entered the room, they felt somewhat uneasy. Looking around, thinking how they were going to be setting everything up, one of my cousins said that there's a specific spot in the whole room that feels incredibly cold-- he was getting kind of scared. Acting like dicks my brother and the other cousin start laughing their lungs out, and, without realizing it, my cousin walks toward the bathroom. All of a sudden, the door from the bathroom is slammed shut and the cousin who entered the bathroom bails out, his face as white as a sheet ghost. The weird thing is that there was no window on that bathroom, and the only window on the room was way too far as to be the cause of this.

They decided to stay in the place. After a couple weeks they found out that this was one of those clandestine places where "medics" practiced abortions. After about a month, they got robbed and lost all the computers and equipment. I think that was their cue to get the fuck out of there.

Seriously, some of these stories on reddit are incredible. I really, really like this one.

This isn't a confession. You can't prove a damn thing, so don't even try. I'll deny it to my grave. I'm on my third drink for the evening anyways. You can't trust the word of a drunken man.
That's when I start to feel anything these days, the third drink. Sometimes it takes four, but usually three will do. It's the same cycle every night for weeks now, I drink, then I start to feel, then the fear comes over me, then I drink some more until I pass out.

All the talk of deja vu is funny because I have it multiple times a week and was getting really creeped out until I found out the disease I have also messes with the brain by mixing your long-term and short-term memories together basically blurring reality and making things feel familiar and as if it's all already happened before. So my short-term memory is almost completely gone while my long-term memory is still really, really good because I used to be one of those guys that could ace a test without even studying the book because I remembered it just from the teacher talking about it and I can remember most of my childhood days like they were yesterday which basically has you feeling guilty because you can't get it out of your mind (no, nothing bad at all but just little stuff).

So they say that could be the reason but the vivid details and how often it happens blows my mind and actually has me saying "Holy shit!" when it happens. So I don't know what to think of deja vu anymore.

Why do I read this thread late at night, especially after saying my own stories in here? lol

I read that too, and while that can explain some cases of feelings similar to Deja Vu, I know for myself that isn't entirely the explanation.

Its not really creepy, but since a young age I've had dreams about things (specifically video games), decades before they were even close to coming out. I told my parents (and I assumed) that I was just a genius and was capable of designing (art/sound) games in my sleep.

Then (7-10) years later I play the game I dreamed about (one was F-Zero X), and have just come to accept things that stand out for whatever reason in my dreams. It's not just playing the game, but specifically recreating the exact movements and timing that triggers that moment. Then I usually stop what I am doing and just smile at the crazyness of the unknown.

Unfortunately that also means I have to take the apocalypse/disaster dreams seriously :(

Could be sleep paralysis. I've had that a couple times and it's scary as fuck.

I dunno what this is but it sounds scary as fuck.

EDIT: after researching this it seems it caused me a number of issues as a kid. good to know.

This world is full of unexplained phenomena that the "science" types like to write off, ignore, or otherwise discredit. They should really be asking themselves what could be causing these phenomena and working out an explanation for them and a way to detect and quantify said phenomena.

My best friend told me that his niece and nephew (both around 3-5 years old) sometimes see an old woman or man in their rooms at night, and that they threaten them. Then my friend said that according to his parents the same used to happen to him (they lived in the same house.) And that's when I got weirded the fuck out and tried to put myself in the position of a parent whose kids have just said some shit like this.

There is literally zero credible evidence of a supernatural occurrence. Now how would you quantify that?

Science has on the other hand, identified real conditions, like sleep paralysis. Whcih was causing some of the alleged phenomenon in completely natural ways. Science is simply whittling away everything until only bullshit remains.

Maybe it has to do with psychology? There's something that's affecting them if they all hallucinate similar stuff, like witnessing the same spirits or whatever, but we shouldn't discredit them because there are no physical evidence.

But that's already happening. You can't expect science to spend money on bullshit, however. Every now and then, a mental illness or other problem is going to exhibit as a report of a supernatural event, but 99.9% of such reports are just bullshit or misidentifications of natural phenomenon. So why invest focus in unrepeatable or falsified scenarios?

Well I'm not saying scientists should shift their focus from what they're doing, but I thought there are already communities paying for random things like these, I mean there are already ghost hunting and all that useless stuff lol

Coming up with plausible evidence-based explanations is what science does. Making up unsupported explanations is not what science does. If there isn't enough evidence to explain something, you don't just jump to ghosts, aliens, god, etc.

Here, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T69TOuqaqXI

Also, Occam's razor stipulates that when you have two explanations that equally explain a phenomena, you choose the explanation that makes the fewest inferences. Paranormal explanations are inference city. For example, in the story above about the kid seeing a shadowy figure named Sunny. You have the explanations that it was his imagination or that the kid saw a ghost that only he could see. It being his imagination requires fewer inferences. It's less of a leap. Is it possible there is a ghost? Yes. Is it probable? No. How would you prove that something that can't be empirically tested exists?

That said, paranormal stories are still fun to read for the creepy factor you get when you turn your rational brain off.

Damn "science" types. They gave us the Polio vaccination and Theory of Germs. Those shit-dicks should have just used Eastern Medicine.

I've had 2 incidents that kinda creeped me out. No explanation, but I don't really believe in the supernatural.

1. I've had deja vu moments, but one really sticks out. I was standing on the hill at the edge of our yard, and had this overwhelming feeling that I've done this before. At first I thought, "of course I've been here before", but then I somehow focused on the 'memory' and knew what was going to happen next; 2 girls walked out of their house, 1 fell off the step and started crying, mom came out and took the girl inside.

2. I had a major accident in a parking lot (not driving a car). Basically I was knocked out, lying on the pavement bleeding heavily from my head. My friend told me that I died, and an EMT happened to be in the diner. He came out and brought me back. I had this memory of floating above myself watching this happen, but figured I pieced it together from friends. Years later at a family reunion, I was talking to a cousin I hadn't seen for since we were little. I couldn't stop thinking her husband looked familiar. After a while I realized he was in my 'memory'. Talking to him it turned out he was the EMT from the diner parking lot.

I had Déjà vu once. It was while my friend was playing Jet Set Radio Future and I was sailing high above the Alps on drugs. After that it occurred once a year. Suffice to say, it only occurred during my experimental period. My drug "experimental" period, not my sex "experimental" period.

But then I read about how your brain can create the Déjà vu experience by way of the "I knew that was gonna happen" circuit. Once I realized that my brain could explain things that way, the same way it incorporates music or noises into my dreams, I stopped having Déjà vu moments.

Yeah science doesn't know SHIT.

I loved reading stuff during my pharmacology masters on how stuff can fuck with your mind, be it from substances or even the mind itself. It intrigues me sometimes when patients tell me stories of things they experienced after taking some neuropharmacological agents.

Just like the mirror test, everybody sees freaky shit after a while, just as your mind is programmed to be. I believe there was a thread recently on the recently discovered Distorted Faces Effect. Watch this movie (don't worry, it's not scary) to see how your mind can fuck with regular stuff and make it look sinister

I think it's more to do with what's fucking with people's minds though, I know it's most likely hallucinations and what people wants to see, I've experienced sleep paralysis and hallucinated a lot, but I've always find it weird how people could see full apparition of ghosts and they are wide awake, some claimed to experience the same thing when they're in the same household, etc, I've always thought it's worth investigating, if they find the source of what's making these people see those freaky stuff, or if there are reasons why they're hallucinating, there would be less misidentification.

Taman Shud Case - Unkown man in Australia found dead. Only lead: a tiny piece of rolled-up paper with the words "Tamam Shud" printed on it that was found deep in a fob pocket sewn within the dead man's trouser pocket.

Great documentary on the case:

I love this strange case. Despite not being especially spooky, it's somewhat unsettling...I sometimes read the wikipedia entry late at night for kicks.

Man that was a really long read, I love how the mysteries keep linking to more mysteries lol, the way how everyone are linked to the book is really interesting.

Damn "science" types. They gave us the Polio vaccination and Theory of Germs. Those shit-dicks should have just used Eastern Medicine.

True scientists believe that nothing is impossible. We have only gotten as far as we have because the real scientists of the world have dreamed of, and achieved what was widely considered impossible in their eras. While everything has a scientific explanation behind it, it is common sense that we still know jack shit about the universe we live in, and as such there is still an innumerable amount of phenomena present that has yet to be explained by scientific means. Those who seek to discredit or write off these phenomena subsequently also write off their credibility on a scientific level.

this thread was lot better when it was for telling spooky stories and not arguing about the basics of science that everyone knows

also whatever happened to that haunted pac man machine or whatever

i think i talked to jeff dsa somethin about it at one point
