Crimson Desert – Staglord Boss Battle Gameplay | gamescom 2024

Combat and graphics are both top-notch, this is going to be a blockbuster next year. But they need to reduce the particle effects, it's too visually overwhelming. Imagine if The Witcher 4 had a combat system like this :messenger_dizzy:

Combat looks very cool. If the exploration matches that quality we might have something very good here.

the amount of "ice skating" the characters do during their animations is staggering....
2024 and terrain collision calculation and motion matching is still not a standard.

This.

It makes the game looks terrible, specially on this fight:

That's a deal breaker for me.

Yo Pearl Abyss, chill with them boss videos. Keep some of them a surprise, lol. I bet there are tons of bosses in the game, otherwise they wouldn't show several of them like this. I like how that crab boss isn't just some generic shit, and it has you doing different things to hurt it, nice. It does seem these bosses all have at least two phases. Hopefully not all of them, that's not necessary.

I do really would like to see some non boss videos of the latest build though.

Something tells me the game will have about a hundred of them - the scope looks insane. And honestly, they've been making this game for at least five years now and we had like, two trailers up until yesterday.

Plus, you can always choose NOT to watch them.

Giant Enemy Crab ? giant enemy crab

Crazy that this started out as an MMO. Wonder if there's still a multiplayer component in the game.

Hopefully they show more outside of boss battles soon.

Problem that is standard for Pearl Abyss as an studio. Black Desert suffers from the same problem with animations/collisions and the absurd use of particle effects. I'm sure the combat will be up to snuff but after watching Monster Hunter Wilds combat, this looks like child's play.

You comparing to Capcom which majority of their games have amazing animation.

It certainly doesn't look like one?
I dunno each time i see just a char against a boss with no npcs around or something, in an empty area i instantly think it is one, due to some many souls clones these days. Some people replied and said that is not the case, so good.

I just played a 30 mins long demo containing of a section likely from the very beginning of the game ,where you go against a band of barbarians with an outcome I will not spoil here, leading to a spiritual realm hub location of sorts where I could go fight all those featured bosses. It was preceded with about 20 mins long video presentation, mostly tutorial covering like 30 different combat moves/mechanics… the system is much deeper than I expected, impossible to grasp for such a short hands on… so I ended up spamming basic melee + dodge with an occasional use of the bazooka bow and I was getting wrecked, whoever is playing in those posted clips knows this thing inside out. Shield kinda useless or I'm missing something, I managed to kill only the viking dude and the monkey and ran out of time. But then there are soecial abilities, grapple moves, glide moves, all kinds of combos, grabs, kicks… really cool stuff and really complex, ina good way. No lock on, only soft one something like GoT. It ran oh hefty pc's with dual sense so it looked just perfect and finally some good qled screens and headphones. Props to Pearl Abyss for the quality setup. They did not show nor say anything about the open world, so like I said earlier - if that side won't drag it to shit - Asia is back and is taking over.

Nice, this game looks absolutely insane. Does it have light and heavy attacks like Devil May Cry?

Asia better take over for good. The West has been creatively bankrupt and infested the political commentary, so I appreciate good and fun experiences (and mostly challenging as well) from devs that know what gamers truly care about.

Yep R1 and R2. But then there are special melee attacks done with face buttons combinations like x + o that combo chain with regular attacks, but also some item related actions I didn't have the time to figure out
