Crimson Desert: Official Hexe Marie Boss Fight Gameplay

Thick Thighs Save Lives

NeoGAF's Physical Games Advocate Extraordinaire
Check out this boss battle gameplay against Hexe Marie in Crimson Desert, the upcoming open-world third-person action-adventure game developed by Pearl Abyss.

The developers describe Hexe Marie as follows: "In defiance of the sanctuary's sacred laws stands Hexe Marie, a follower of darkness. Enraptured by the mesmerizing shadows, she dared to break forbidden taboos and infused darkness even into her own child. Many have tried to thwart her twisted ambitions, yet she remains within the sanctuary steeped in wrath and vile curses, awaiting the dawn of the false paradise."

Looks a bit like a chaotic mess in this fight but fun. I like when he flips the smaller enemies over his back. Definitely one to keep a very close eye on next year. The cutscenes at the end are pretty exciting.

Their videos are always beautiful, and if it were any other developer than Pearl Abyss I would probably be happy with this game. But Pearl Abyss has such donations and microtransactions in their games that it completely kills all desire to play their games, and actually makes playing without donations in their games pointless.

They are using unreal engine 5 right? I can see the ghosting and blurriness

But it looks good, I like the combat

The framing of the cutscene is utter trash

The game design appears to be dated

I’m afraid fancy particles won’t save it

Don't think so? It's their own engine, I think.

Man, there sure is alot happening on the screen, but it looks pretty cool. Camera gets obscured by the environment pretty easily, so would be cool if they could add some anti-occlusion solution there (like character outlines or just fading away the static environment)

Looks fun though I still think they are going way overboard with the particles and flashing and camera shake.
Hopefully a lot of that can be disabled in the settings.

Wtf Hexe Marie has been a major boss in their Black Desert Online/Mobile titles for years.. so is Crimson Desert set in the same universe?

*Just noticed they mentioned Tarif in the videos so i guess yeah shared universe? Or just stealing assets from their other franchise? haha

Going in the house like that at 5:59 is quite unique for a boss fight, even though it's more like a cut scene.

The battleground is also unique as Boss fights in other games are just large open areas. The tree in the middle is the obstruction to prevent you from attacking the Boss to some degree.

Can't wait to play this on the Pro.

Could be the Wukong of 2025… rough around the edges but I can totally see myself getting into this

This is a 100% single player game.

I don't think abusing particles make the light system any better tho...
I agree, my point is that the rest of the game looks last gen as fuck, likely because of the scale of the open world, so adding overdone particle effects might create the appearance of “good graphics”

It looks cool and flashy but I hope the overall game is more interesting than Black Desert which is the online game that's extremely similar. I did spend some time in Black Deset, got a Ranger and a Guardian but the whole game felt soulless even with all the flashy cool abilities, can't really explain it.

Asia really rules this generation which is a good news for me due to no twisted woke agenda and no SBI poison.
Sure sure, especially this year with countless awesome games from Asia like Stellar Blade, Rebirth, Wukong, Grandblue etc etc without any of the fucked up sick nasty woke shits. Used to be a lot of Japanese games but now Korea and China is getting some good spotlights too.

curious how the final release will be tuned cause my impression is combat will be seriously challenging. Perhaps there are difficulty modes but people playing those boss fight demos know what they're doing. The system is deep and complex and I hope it's tutorialized well.

Yes, I understand, but now they are not afraid to make microtransactions and stores even in single player (Assassin's Creed :messenger_tears_of_joy: ), and yes, after 2.5 years of playing BDO, I have zero credit of trust in these greedy clowns, I certainly hope that nothing will happen, I just don't trust them that much and will be careful until the game is released.:messenger_grinning:

Much like Black Desert I can't ever get into this game because the lack of weapon feedback or stagger on enemies and bosses just turns me off so quick. Very much a all style no substance kind of product. But that's Pearl Abyss for you. The Vindictus successor from Nexon is more my cup of tea. And even I think OG Vindictus will probably be better.

I understand the skepticism, but I honestly believe this is going to be a case of GranBlue Fantasy Relink. Or Stellar Blade. SP games made by Gacha devs who miraculously said "no MTX for this game".

This is Pearl Abyss. I think MTX for large amounts of cosmetics and maybe P2W stuffs is a given.

This game is a single player game not an MMO. If the game was F2P then yeah you could worry about the ways they thinking about monetizing the game, but its suposed to be a full priced game.

Have you played Goddess of Victory Nikke? You wouldn't believe a dev team with such a heavy emphasis on predatory MTX practices actually made Stellar Blade.
This is true however I don't have high confidence that Pearl Abyss will follow ShiftUP's example.

Nikke is actually super F2P friendly. One of the most F2P frindly gacha games you can play. They skins are expensive though. Brown Dust 2 is another korean gacha that is also super F2P friendly (from the same devs that made Lies of P) Usually when korean gets greedy is in the way they monetize they MMOs.

Not sure how it happened, but I became a Snowbreak player and I can't seem to stop giving that game my time. I've unlocked a LOT of stuff, and so far I've spent around 130 euro, which for a gacha game where the price to buy a character can go up to 200 euro, this is no small feat.

The gameplay captivated me.

I already wrote above that after BDO I simply don't trust this developer. That's why I am extremely cautious about this game.

This is actually a very interesting case, because Shift Up actually has a lot of people who worked on single player games. + Hyung-tae Kim (I hope I wrote that correctly...) Lead designer, used to work on the Magna Carta (And his design will be preserved in all games, up until Nikki.) series on PS2\Xbox360, and I'm actually surprised that they won't bring it back, so they re-entered the console market without much difficulty.
