Question is do you think we'll ever see gross generational play across 3 or more platforms like we see in the phone or car industries for example, ps5 players playing with ps6, and 7 players because honestly graphics haven't changed much. Discuss.

idk about ps4 cause the HDD and CPU is just way to old. But a ps5 could probably be used crossgen even when a ps8 comes out lol

technically speaking we are already there

Fortnite:
Xbox One - gen8
Xbox Series X - gen9
Switch 2 - gen10

but I'd also bet once the next gen Xbox is out, you can add it to this list to have 3 xbox generations in one game.
PS6 will apparently release later, so maybe by then the Xbox One and PS4 versions will be discontinued... but honestly, there's no technical reason they couldn't be supported for a long time, given the Switch 2's similar power profile and that Mobile Fortnite is still a thing and supports far lower specs than the PS4 and Xbox One.

nope. the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions are completely separate games, they even run on their own in-house engine developed by 4J Studios.
they have their own hardcore fanbase due to their unique differences to Java and Bedrock.

so crossplay only works with last gen and current gen. not with the "Legacy Console Edition" as they're called by the community.

they were eventually phased out. I think everyone who bought the PS4 and Xbox One edition got a free update for Bedrock. the PS4 and Xbox One editions were also not crossplay with gen7 afaik, because they supported bigger worlds than the PS3 and 360 editions. same engine tho, just improved.

Bedrock was the first crossplay compatible version, which is now of course fully crossplay.
