Crysis 2: PS3 performs better than 360 version

Crytek has admitted that its getting "slightly more performance" out of the PS3 version of Crysis 2 than the Xbox 360 edition.

However, the studio's business development boss Carl Jones said he was confident the game would become the best-looking title "on every platform".

The studio has previously revealed that it overcame problems squeezing the game's massive CryEngine 3 onto console.

However, it went on to claim that the game's graphics were the best you'd ever see on console - something CVG's own experience of the Xbox 360 version backed up.

Our man Ryan saw just a snippet of gameplay running on PS3, and said it looked exactly the same as the 360 version. But now it appears that over the course of the title, Sony's system might have the edge.

Jones added that Crytek had no difficulty developing for the PS3 in comparison to the 360.

That's what happens when you don't just port it. I guess the surprise here is that they're not a bunch of lazy devs :)

cryteks been working with the ps3 for awhile now iirc, so its not very surprising they've gotten over the initial kinks.

Thus begins pages and pages of rampant speculation over exactly what "slightly more performance" means.

Allow me to say this preemptively:

Put it back in your pants, Fanboygaf. Just walk away. Pretend you never saw this thread.

The last line surprises me, never thought they would have more difficulty with the 360 version.

I'd say what he means is that developing for the PS3 was no more difficult than the 360.

"We haven't found it more difficult to develop for PS3," he told CVG sister magazine PSM3.

I read that to mean no more difficulty, as appose to less.

As for it looking better, who gives a fuck, people who care about what it looks like will probably be picking it up on PC.

Yeah I guess you are right, they word it a bit weird though.

I've been out of the loop for a while...is it pretty much assumed that there is no way this will look as good as the PC version of Crysis due to the obvious limitations of console hardware?

or are they expecting to pull off some sort of crazy trickery?

PC Crysis maxed? No

Not so much assumed as it is absolute fact.

No amount of trickery with the PS360 hardware can see the game's visuals match those being rendered on a high-end PC, and they're not suggesting otherwise.

Great now we get to hear how Crysis 2 looks better on PS3 and looks worse than Killzone 2.

:lol

Ahh yes,PS3 superiority shananigans once again. Ghost Busters taught us nothing I guess.

I doubt this game will look better than the 360's crowning jewel,Metro 2033. Such a beautiful game.

Apples and oranges. We're not talking about whoever the fuck developed Ghostbusters here, we're talking about Crytek.

It really depends on the engine I guess. I bet Rage performs better on 360, the mega texture system requires very little RAM, so the 360 has even more memory advantage than usual as there is none specified for graphics.

I know nothing about the machines, or programming, but it does seem like both have pronounced advantages over the other.

Gaf had a swagger when the developer spoke of the PS3 being heads and tails better than the 369 version, and I am simply saying Gaf needs to not fall for PR talk, thats my point.

Judge which looks better once theyre out.

No, it's the same thing we hear about for almost every game that's on both the PS3 and 360. It's just the way it is. We'll continue to call it "Storage Issues" (just for fun) I'm sure we'll keep hearing the same thing on almost everygame going forward as well.
Not much of a surprise, but let's break out any screen shots possible and see the zaggies in the background that you can't really see and go all fanboy about it. Sounds like another entertaining thread brewing, brought to you by NeoGAF.

If there's one sure way to get people talking about your game, it's by throwing out a statement like that.

I have it in my head that Crytek are the most technically capable development studio out there, thus it's not surprising to hear that they've conquered PS3 development already.

BTW, nice extra-spin you did there firewire.

Extra spin?

I didn't add anything to the article. I took the title and most of the article straight from the site.

Your 0 key broke ?

Surprising thread for surprising user.

Key word here is "at the moment". Same shit happened with Rage running at 30fps on PS3 during the developement

I'm sure. GAF seems to believe that anytime a game looks better on the 360, it's because the "developers are lazy" not taking into account engine, manpower, etc.

I'm just saying, you have to take into account the pedigree behind the developers.

This is going to be the next Killzone 2 and I don't mean in visuals no, I mean the amount of hilarity that is going to come out of GAF in the coming months.

Can Not Wait.
