Crysis 2: PS3 performs better than 360 version

Dexvex said:
Yes but you can't blame him for for posting the same title cvg did. But anyway isn't it about time we get a centralized hype thread because there have been alot of Cry2 threads with little to no info?

Ok i'll agree with that but we all know how it goes. Website posts story with provocative title to get hits.

What should happen is the OP should say to himself "will this make a good thread on Gaf that will have lots of insightful discussion or will it just stir up trouble" before pressing that New Topic button.

dude blame CVG its the exact same title they posted on their site. Are you new or something?

:lol I'm not new. I know you're not new but I think you must be blind.

Eww at playing Crysis on a console. However it's nice to hear the PS3 version of a multiplat game isn't shit.
I initially thought Crysis with a controller would be pretty rough, and I still haven't tried it, but I have heard a number of people on GAF say it's pretty awesome with a controller.

As for a 'trolling' thread. If we get a general Crysis 2 thread, something like this wouldn't get a thread, and as part of a thread, it wouldn't receive the kind of attention it has/will.

Someone should make a Crysis 2 general information thread.

Pretty sure that is what happened... and here we are.

And you keep discussing trolling and my preferences. Why not talk about the fucking article? If you guys didn't go off the deep end we wouldn't be talking about "attempts" to troll the 360.

But hey keep the fanboy war shit up, everybody can see it suits you.

It's Firewire dude...

Still feels to me the engine came too late(for consoles that is). The next gen is around the corner and I know it'll be accompanied by the Unreal 4 engine. :O

Machine with stronger hardware runs game being designed for it from the ground up better than machine with worse hardware!

MORE AT 11!!!

I am still amazed how such developer statements heat up the gaming community. I mean, gamers shouldn't care unless there are noticable visual differences between the console versions. If both versions run at least with solid 30fps we are set. Things would become only debatable when suddenly the 360 version features some nasty 8-bit sprites instead of PS3 uber-awesome polycount polygon models. This whole PS3 vs. 360 forums debates are the-virtual-penis-length-comparisons of nowadays internet culture...
As a true gamer one should be grateful for the games that come. I mean, just imagine a world with only a console that is targeted at the casual gamer [runs away]...

We're still a good 2-3 years out for next gen and even then crytek has already shown some rather impressive footage for next gen.

I'll back Firewire up, I don't think his intention was as some of you are suggesting. However due to the nature of the article, it was inevitable were it would end.

+1

You are right.

But I just can't help being pleased to hear that it runs better on PS3, as my main console is the PS3 ;-)

I hate this 'defense', not everyone is fighting some pointless childish console war. Some people just want to know which SKU they should buy. If someone has a PS3 and 360, but not a gaming PC, is it so bad that they want to know which version of the two is better?

SKU comparisons are completely valid. Although this early it's kind of pointless.

But thats not what the article says.
Anyway, period for me.

Yeah and the dev time to make a game is around 2 years no?

I'm expecting a next gen console in the holiday season of 2011.

indeed... i just wonder if it will actually be noticeable at all ;-). They probably would not mention it if it wasnt noticeable. Hopefully it ends up being good game regardless of graphics. i doubt it will look bad on either platform.

I'd be pretty shocked at that.

Lets be honest, it's going to be pretty stunning on both, I don't think the average gamer is going to compare both directly "oh my god, look there has to be nearly 20% more dust in the PS3 version! MS fail lul".

And as has been said a number of times in this thread. Both console versions will be pathetic compared to the PC version, it's like Sony and MS fighting for install base with Nintendo just laughing from the wings.

However, I do defend SKU comparisons. They are useful to people. They're unfortunately war fodder too.

So you're expecting an E3 2010 reveal?
Not really, I'm expecting a E3 2011 reveal. Holiday season as in december 2011. Or are consoles announced 1 year prior?

edit:

From who Nintendo? Definitely not sony(MOVE) or M$(Natal).
Ah forgot about that, wow this gen is really really stretched out. :/

I'll believe it when I see it.
I'm sure the official Crysis 2 thread will still end up having "are 2-3 fps really going to make a difference", "why did you blow up the image 300x" etc etc.
I'm still surprised people still need to post the Ps3 version will be superior crap, it came out later, still costs a lot more money should it NOT be the better version? Why when it is the better version is this a large issue, seems like it should always be the case.

The only reason people care and are surprised is because often times the multiplatform versions of games are worse on the PS3 because of its different architecture. It hasn't been much of an issue lately, with the exception of Bayonetta, but early on in the gen there were some pretty terrible port jobs. I doubt there will be any noticeable difference in Crysis 2 since Crytek seems to be trying their hardest to make the console versions as good and as close as they can be.

Oh yeah? Well...... the 360 conrtoller is better!

:(

Just kidding. I really don't care about this because performance will only be slightly better. I'm not gonna go out and buy a PS3 just to buy the slightly better Crysis 2.

Crytek deep into PS3 development, creating "secret technologies"
The team is currently working on a console game, and it appears that the game is being built from the ground up for PS3. "It's a complete departure from Crysis and Far Cry, it's not a first-person shooter," he explained. The game, which is also bound for Xbox 360, won't feature any of the cross-platform issues that have been plaguing sloppier releases. "For that, we're optimising technology, but for another reason, the future in general, there is a dedicated PS3 team."

Crytek is working on additional technologies, specifically for Sony's platform. "The PS3 room is separate because we have some secret technologies being developed there which are not related to CryEngine 2." Obviously, this comes as exciting news -- one just has to take one look at Crysis to see the incredible grasp Crytek has on bleeding edge technology. We can't wait to see what they're cooking up for the PS3.

I guess it was a personal challenge for crytek to develop the 'best looking' PS3 game, since there is uncharted 1-2, killzone etc that claims that thrown.

There's really no rule of thumb. With this gen, the 360 was unveiled on MTV in May '05 and released later that year. Both the Wii and PS3 were unveiled at E3 '05 and released late '06 (with some countries not seeing the PS3 till Q1 '07). An interesting point with the Wii is that it was "talked about" at E3 '04.

Come on just get this on pc.
im gonna get both versions though, PC version for the graphics and the ps3 version to play with friends online.

So does this mean PS3 has finally become easier to develop for ala like when the PS2 finally became easier to develop for?
Not really, it just now has the installbase that warrants putting the extra time in. I think we'll see more developers leading on PS3 because it seems to result in better product quality. Until recently there has basically just been Burnout, but now there's FFXIII, Vanquish, Castlevania. I think that's going to become more frequent.

At least PS3 owners aren't being treated like shit, as often anymore. A couple of years back, it was pretty disgusting.

That's not a bad thing. There's no reason for new consoles for a few years.
Nah I'm starting to feel like this gen is just too limited. Large scale battle wise and graphic wise(it's always one or the other never both). No console game shocks me anymore. :\ Sure there's PC gaming and all that, but I just prefer console gaming. :<

You mean, like an on/off switch..? Yes, Sony finally decided it was time to flick it; Now it's easy instead of hard.
