Seriously, if you like slow-paced games, I can pretty much PROMISE you'll love Culdcept. We've all made impulse purchases, so what's one more?
Here's my review, if someone wants to know more about the game:
Quick review:
Culdcept is one part collectable card game and one part board game, mixed together into a package so good it's downright sexy. The basic concept has gamers traveling around boards of varying complexity, with access to a hand of cards, drawn from a deck they put together. The object is to be the first player to reach the set amount of total magic. Gamers can cast spells, use items, or place creatures of varying strength on empty squares (think houses or hotels in monopoly). As I'm sure you can imagine, things can get very complex at high levels of play.
Pros/Cons:
+ Hundreds and hundreds cards to collect, allowing you great freedom to build your particular deck
+ Lots of strategic depth, keeping you thinking and on your toes at all times
+ Single Player quest is extremely long and packs in reasons to come back (collecting all the cards, earning various medals, etc)
+ The gameplay eases you in, slowly revealing the more complex gameplay mechanics as you go along
+/- The quest is challenging to the point of being extremely frustrating at times, but I always wanted to come back for more
- Occasionally the translation is so rough that it detracts from the gameplay itself
Bottem Line:
Culdcept is the best game you've never heard of. It's also the first game I've been officially addicted to in over a year, and I play a lot of games, so that should tell you something. Anyone who is a fan of strategy titles, RPGs, board games, or collectable card games owes it to themselves to check out this title. This isn't a title for the casual gamer, however. Matches can get long, and it's very possible that making some bad preparatory choices with your deck could cost you the entire match. That being said, anyone who enjoys slower paced titles will enjoy Culdcept.
