Current gen (and some old) Hardware Numbers

I can't believe you keep using Sonic as an example. I'm happy with the GC lineup, but as much as I respect your vast historical and developer knowledge, your as reliable as Broshnat when discussing the outlook of MS/Nintendo.

Fuck these release war lists, everyone knows one thing...that the rest of the year won't pan out directly as it's painted by rabid company partisans here. Last year didn't.
Well, Sonic still a pretty high profile exclusive, every 3D Sopnic sold in excess of 1 million this gen (though admittedly across multiple platforms). But I'm talking direct sales so much as industry/media hype. GameCube has 3 exclusives that can really garner that sort of attention, PS2 still has a ton coming (FFXII, DQVIII, KH2, DMC3, Tekken 5, etc) while Xbox doesn't really have anything comparable. Xbox does have a solid lineup that caters to it's base, at least for the 1st half but after that there's this huge dropoff. I suspect the 2nd half for Xbox is going to be almost entirely PS2/PC ports, a good chunk of which will hit GameCube too (anything from EA, Activision, UbiSoft & THQ basically). And in 2006 support will drop entirely besides EA probably (as will GameCube but with Nintendo games as well).

KeithFranklin said:
How can someone use Mario/Sonic/Zelda to describe unique high profile experiences is beyond me. Yeah these games have never be done before and each and everyone is different.
They're new high profile exclusives, something every platform but Xbox seems to be getting next year. You can probably blame Microsoft for that. Fanboi.

I just did a quick search and found the following but I don't know how reliable the numbers are.

Quote:
It may surprise you, however, to learn that the Sega Master System is Sega's second-best selling videogame console to date. Taking into account the three iterations of the console, along with Sega's own figures and those of its licensees, it seems that over 13 million SMS units were sold worldwide between 1986 and 1998 - and that doesn't include the clones and knock-offs.

Well it was very popular in Brazil...wouldn't surprise me if that's where it got a large chunk of it's numbers. So fear the Master System muthafuckas.

The more things change the more they stay the same. Every year the Nintendo fans list off the niche Nintendo produced titles (Exception of RE4 in this list) about how they will sell, sell, sell and the same thing happens they sell meh. Then they respond to every XBOX list that overrated, overhyped, wont sell, etc. Call all the XBOX totles garbage then every GCN title that gets mediocre at best scores they still act like are good games.

:lol I was thinking the same thing. And where this Sonic weapon for Gamecube is coming from is beyond me. Reminds me of the Sonic bullet that Cube was supposed to have for themselves in 2003/04. :lol But hell, maybe I've just missed the announcement. Doesn't preclude Sonic from showing up elsewhere though.

I'd say the reality is that people who just snapped up a bunch of XBox's this past Christmas, aren't gonna not buy games for the next nine months simply because XBox 2 is on the way. For that reason alone, I wouldn't expect to see a huge dip in software sales. As for Gamecube, that hasn't exactly been a great market for selling software...not sure why it would vastly improve this year. Nintendo's working on four consoles now, and as Sega could tell you that's not easy.

2005 Xbox Games that will either sell pretty well or receive critical acclaim:

-Oddworld Stranger
-NFL Street 2
-Winning Eleven 8
-NBA Street Vol 3
-Street Fighter AC Live
-Project Snowblind
-Fight Night Round 2
-Star Wars: Republic Commando
-Brothers in Arms
-ESPN MLB 2K5
-MVP Baseball 2005
-Phantom Dust
-Doom 3
-Timesplitters FP
-Cold Fear
-Wrestlemania XXI
-Super Monkey Ball DX
-Rainbow Six: Lockdown

-Conker Live & Reloaded
-GTA San Andreas
-Flatout
-NCAA Football 2006
-Starcraft Ghost
-Madden 2006
-Farcry Instincts
-Scarface
-Battlefield Modern Combat

There's a few million sellers in there and we still don't know all the 2nd half Xbox games so that's by no means a complete list. It can be argued that '05 will be the year of the Xbox yet again.

They are unique. As in, they weren't released last year on PS2/PC.

Guess you missed the "maybe I missed it bit"...perhaps you should try reading an entire post. Not that you could argue against it. :lol

I think the reason xbox really caught on last year is because all of the games that were continually delayed for years finally came out all together. Games like Ninja Gaiden, Fable, Halo 2, etc. combined with other brand new exclusives to give it a great buzz. I honestly don't think they could have timed that price drop any better.

Nobody cares that 500k of the Xbox installed base are Refurbished systems? That is systems, that were bought, returned to M$ (or I supposed EB/Gamestop) and then resold (ie = USED)

Didn't notice that actually, that's even more surprising!

Does SCEA not sell refurbished systems then, or do they just not report them seperately? What about Nintendo?

None are listed for the PS2.

Everybody does refurbished systems, they just are normally listed as USED sales, not new. They shouldn't be on the report, IMO.

Also GCN:

GCN GAMECUBE REFURBISHED NINTENDO OF AMERICA May-02 115,251

sonycowboy, don't stop using your powers for fanboy reasons. It's quite entertaining. What's the failure rate on PS2's btw? :lol

Could we have the other GCN figures (and GBA too) if it's not too much trouble? :)

And are those GCN refurbished sales reported as new also?
