Cyberpunk 2077: development in full swing

I only saw the trailer a couple of months ago, but definitely color me intrigued. There's nothing of the game besides that trailer, really, so hopefully CDPR has put something else together while they've been working on it. :p

I'm playing thru Witcher 3 now and its great besides a couple nitpicks. When this comes out Ill probably wait for the GOTY edition again because I trust CDPR to put out good DLC.

The overall design of the game. Exploration and its importance, characters, dialogue, quest/story structure. There's also the very strong similarity between Geralt and Jensen, both quiet badasses, both having "powers"...etc.

After having just finished Mankind Divided, I hope that Cyberpunk is nothing like it (decent game, but the story wasn't compelling, and despite offering different forms of gameplay, Stealth was still the optimal way to play). Exploration wasn't too terribly important in areas that were as congested as what was in the game other than to find a bunch of junk. Finding different routes through the same, small areas is nothing like the layout in The Witcher games.

Vents were never difficult to find either. Badass, stoic protagonist is the other similarity you're drawing on? Okay, in that case, don't rule out any of the Batman games.

I seriously believe that they were "inspired" in the loosest sense of the word. They claimed to have been "inspired" by both Demon's Souls and Arkham Asylum when creating TW2. The only similarity in that game to Demon's was the damage output of enemies prior to the initial PC nerf patch. It was then nerfed again once it was released on the console. I think someone accidentally put Fable 3 in the Dark Souls case, and they just put in whatever disc was in that case without looking. Or, they just decided that the good combat was "too good", and they didn't want to take away from the graphics or narrative, which they felt were more important than fun gameplay and fixed that shit quick.

If it controls as shit as Witcher 3, I'll skip it. No excuse to release games this ambitious with controls this laughable again. They should absolutely focus more on this.

this first post certainly lands with a thud. TW3 controls were fine. They even pushed through an update (along with a ton of other free content updates) that allowed for an alternative less weighty control scheme. I honestly never had a problem with it before or after patch.

laughable? please.

2018 is a strong possibility for this game, and it'll be a fun major game alongside Spider-Man.

Having said that, I really hope it's TPS/FPS so I can switch. First-person bugs me and is a big reason I won't get Deus Ex.

This game is still so so far off. :(
They should have every single person at CDPR and they mamas working on this game till it hits retail.

Actually if you go back and watch it now it doesn't look that advanced anymore. Recent games have done really well in the graphics department and raised the standards.
True. Still I don't think they will. It'll still look amazing as fuck though. TW3 looked awesome.

I don't know why everyone is getting on first post guy. I beat and enjoyed the game but I'm not gonna pretend Geralt didn't control like shit. Stiff, unresponsive movement is not fun for any game let alone an action RPG. The fact that they had to put out an "alternate" movement scheme (that didn't really help too much anyway) enough proof that the movement was shit.

Some people didn't get the memo that you can like/love a game while still admitting it's got issues.

This is has been one of my most anticipated games since it was revealed, then they released that amazing trailer...

Probably only second to Masss Effect on my most anticipated game of any time, any platform, any release date

There's a difference between admitting the gameplay wasn't perfect and saying "don't even put out a new game if you can't fix this garbage-ass combat". Man, ya'll can stop with all that lol.

It wasn't perfect but it was enjoyable.

I mean sure that's hyperbolic, but j read it more as fanciful language than a literal statement. I found Geralt so unpleasant to control that it really sapped a lot of my enjoyment from the Witcher 3. The story, characters and world were all amazing, but combat was kind of an unpleasant chore.

So what have they been doing since the 2013 announcement...

I thought the game was already well into development by now...

What's with the Scorpio bullshit? Console has barely been announced and people are already port begging for it. Who fucking cares where this releases on. Not buying it otherwise is fucking hilarious.

uhhh i want the best possible version, neo is trash with jaguar, current gen is just lol and i dont game on pc

after witcher 3 on current gen im not touching this on anything other than the best possible hardware

At this point, probably not considering that "next-gen" consoles (PS5 and Xbox 2) will most likely arrive in 2018/19, and development of this has just entered full throttle.

if you mean neo is ps5 and scorpio is xbox 2 then yea

I did not. Those consoles are coming out later this year and late next year, respectively.

Maybe they'll add Bloodborne combat. Back on Earth, I'm excited to see how this game turns out. W3 is still the best game this gen so I'm ready.

Get a PC.

I know your post says I don't game on PC but then you clearly don't want the best possible version.

How the hell is it port begging when the game is most definitely coming to the system? Do people around here even know what port begging means?

You really should build a PC if you want the best possible version.

I'm not an RPG guy. I'm not someone who likes to spend hundreds of hours in the same game, I usually get bored after 20. And I'm not that into medieval fantasy. Still TW3 is my GOAT. And I'm 35, I play games since I was 8.
Cyberpunk is my favourite setting of all times. 80s analog tech cyberpunk above all. I'm excited

ps. controls in TW3 were just fine, and combat is good. The only things I agree on are Roach jankiness and loot mechanics, which is a bit too coumbersome

No actual lies detected.

With that said however, it's pretty apparent that this game is gonna be a different beast from start to finish. More people, newer blood, better resources, everything.

And also, knowing that there are guys at CD Project actively reading Gaf I'd say it's safe to assume that they're not only aware of the sentiment but are actively doing something about it.

So I'm gonna give them a chance to prove that they're game is worth our money and withhold judgement till I see more about how this game plays out.

Controls were absolute crap. Like another person mentioned, hopefully CDPR does heavy focus testing with controls both in and out of combat.

I can't believe controls were a deal breaker for some and I have little issue with them. They weren't perfect but they weren't poor to me, and certainly not anything to make me skip the next game. Ridiculous. Still, hopefully they do refine and perfect the controls as they clearly can be vastly improved. Ideally they are taking the criticism seriously.

As hard as it'd be, with how long I've wanted a Sci-Fi game from CDPR, I don't think I can accept shitty controls and combat again.

Guys, I am sure they are aware that movement in TW3 was criticized a lot. I would guess they are probably not just slapping Witcher controls on CP2077 and calling it a day.

Back on topic, I am stoked to hear that they are in full swing on such an ambitious project. This is gonna be a gaming milestone.

About the size: Night City isn't just sprawling, but very vertical. I'd wager that the city itself will be smaller in acreage than TW3 map but far denser and more vertical. This could include a literal underground as well as massive skyscrapers, upper city areas with walkways connecting clumps of business sprawl, etc.

Port begging? The console will be well under way by the time that this releases.

People are excited about new hardware - shocker. We also get dozens of "wait for Neo mode" posts (including from myself)

Glad to hear this. I've read some saying they hope it isn't a huge empty world, but I imagine this is going to be nothing like the world of the Witcher and more of a dense inner city GTA like world. A smaller world on the horizontal plane with fleshed out indoor areas for many buildings with verticality both above and below ground would be bonkers.

Yeah GTA is probably a better reference point than The Witcher here for sure. They even reference it as an inspiration as an open-world model. Even so, I feel like they are going even more ambitious. It will be interesting to see if they can pull off the dense, almost oppressive atmosphere of Night City while making it feel meaningful and diverse. On paper it's the most ambitious project this side of Star Citizen I can think of. The sheer amount of assets and content needed to bring this thing alive is mind-boggling.

And that's not even touching on the Roles (classes) and all the very different abilities they have in the pnp rpg (which CDPR is using as a basis for their class system, at least early on.) Making those playstyles all have meaningful avenues of progression through a huge open-world city, combined with cybernetic enhancements in top of it all, sounds... not easy.

CDPR going in big. Trying to keep a level head about what to expect, but this is conceptually my dream game. It's tough.
