The optimistic view is that he will make at least one film before really cranking up for episode 9, and that he'll get more reps as a filmmaker before taking on the galaxy far far away. I always thought it nuts that the director of a small and kinda crappy indie film managed to land Jurassic World. That being said, while it's not a great film, Jurassic World is a fun ride.
Also Cross-Section is absolutely correct about how important a strong script is. Way too early to write off his direction of ep 9.
