Disney only owns the right to Marvel themed attractions West of the Mississippi River (I've heard that's literally the contract stipulation). Universal Studios owns the rights to the East, meaning that only Land could have that. When I went two years ago, they had a "Hall of Iron Man suits" attraction in Tomorrowland, and that was awesome. I would love to see more of that.

Interesting, makes sense though because Marvel has to be as big of a draw as Star Wars right now. Weird how it works out like that.

I could see it being like their shared rights ownership for the Hulk films where it prevents Disney from doing anything with it, unlike properties they own 100%.

There will be more Marvel announcements in the future. We still don't know who is directing Black Panther or Captain Marvel. Or even who is playing Captain Marvel. So Marvel has stuff to announce in the future.

Taking the two best things about my childhood, and rolling it into one. I need to buy a yearly pass now :(

Here comes the price hike to 106 dollars admission when this is built.

Knowing them they'll try to make revealing Spider-Man into an event itself.

Yeah, the Universal deal was made long before Disney owned Marvel, and I guess the deal was made so far-out that it's still in Universal's ownership. I've heard rumors that the deal might actually be in perpetuity, but without seeing the contract (which will obviously never happen), it's almost impossible to know.

Same as the deal for the film rights to characters like Spider-Man (which they're now partnering with Sony for the use of) or the X-Men with Fox. Those deals, however, are based on usage; if they don't make a Fantastic Four movie every 7 years, the rights revert. If you'll notice, it's been 8 years since Rise of the Silver Surfer, which is why it was rumored that Fox had to trade back the rights to Daredevil and company to Marvel in exchange for an extension on FF, since the new film had been so delayed. Of course, Fox will keep making X-Men movies until they squeeze every last bit of juice from that fruit, so I wouldn't look forward to seeing them in an MCU movie any time soon, unless they become less profitable and they're forced to pen a deal like Sony did with Spider-Man.

I would say that after Ultron and Ant-Man weren't as successful as Marvel was probably hoping for (i.e. Ultron didn't beat original Avengers despite hugely increased awareness), they're going to be more focussed on marketing the next two movies (Civil War and Strange) before moving on to the next ones.

Disney will make it happen.

Seeing how long its taken for a small addition of Avatar to AK, I doubt it. Even the smaller Harry Potter sections of Universal took major time and work to get done and those were pretty quick even. The biggest expansion in Disney history and they haven't done anything yet, is not going to be ready in less than 2 years. They also are not mentioning any dates if you notice, the rumors were 2017, but now there is no set time, so this is going to be long ways off still at this point.

14 acres, I don't see how this is going to be even remotely ready by 2017, they haven't even broken ground at the parks

Cars land took about 3 years to build iirc? Assuming most of the rides in Star Wars land will be more like Star Tours and less like Radiator Springs I could see it happening..

If the rumor from earlier this week has any weight to it, they aren't planning to have this thing out soon. Double NDAs for the Imagineers working on it because the rides have info pertaining to Episodes 7 - 9 and the last film won't be out until 2019.

I can't see this Star Wars Land opening same year as Avatar, not at DHS anyway. Maybe they will be able to do that over in Anaheim.

It might open on sections too. It could take until 2020 or 2021 (WDW's 50th anniversary). All rumors indicate there is more than Star Wars coming to DHS, Pixar is seeing a major expansion there too.

For what it's worth just reposting this that I found and posted in the Star Wars community thread and now looking back to it and it was mostly on point...
Last week or so there was a "leak" on 4chan that has since been deleted from somebody who claimed they were in the know who basically said D23 would consist of..
  • Some but not all the cast present
  • No new trailer
  • New stills and behind the scenes images
  • Basic plot outline
  • New poster
  • Rogue One details
  • Star Wars attractions at Disney World and Disney Land for 2017.

Again a grain of salt and all that but since they posted that we did get the confirmation of no trailer being shown and EW's coverage with new stills and info so...

This has been posted a thousand times, and has been fake every single time.

Figured. Found no information on Gaf so searched online and this is the only trailer showing up. Not planning to read the trailer description. Waiting it out.

Trailer starts off awesome then goes down hill the second Stark starts talking. It's not cuz of Ironman, it's just a bad trailer.

It's funny that they were using some kind of night vision lens to spot people who were recording during the panels.

I have never seen that. I wonder if it'll start being more common.
