Now we're getting somewhere. This was a fun episode, but damn it had some brutal gore in it. That head smash was revolting.

Yea, and this is coming from someone who can handle most gory scenes...That one was bad...

I actually found the test to be quite simple so I'm pretty much a genius too. :D

Good episode, but I think they should have paced the information overload a bit better. Jumps through the three storylines were jarring at certain points.

"Maybe I'll name this whole fucking place after myself! VESPUCCIA!"

lmao

That was a really enjoyable episode.

That high priestess was something else...

Those feather wings were fucking sick as hell. *swoon*

I agree. I would have preferred the entire episode to have been set in South America. But a lot of stuff happened with Lorenzo and Clarice, so it's not like I didn't enjoy those scenes as well.

Solid episode and I particularly enjoyed the new world scenes. I agree on the jumps between the three locations not working out as well as one would like. I understand the narrative reason for it as we have to keep touch with both the characters and the setting, but they need to do a better job of tying it all together. It's a risk for the show to take, and I always respect it when shows make a bold choice rather than taking the easy way out, so I hope it works out in the end.

I enjoyed Zoroaster's reaction to looking up the thighs of the priestess.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Glad they finally got to the New World. I was getting pretty tired of the ship stuff. I'd definitely say this was the best episode this season.

New episode tonight:
The Rope of the Dead

Entering the Vault of Heaven presents challenges for Leonardo and Riario; Lorenzo becomes a part of King Ferrante's bloody games; Lucrezia meets the Turk in Constantinople.

Oh my god, holy fuck at this execution scene. That was fucked up.

Oh man, secret black half-brother sex?

Lol, Nick converted.

Even in a foreign prison, Riario has serious swag.

That was the best episode of the season yet by a mile. It had so many cool things: Riario kicking ass, Lorenzo's test, Da Vinci visiting with himself, and of course getting to see Giuliano again.

This was the kinda Da Vinci episode I like. Al-Rahim, mysical crap, sex AND violence. Also, the better Medecii brother.

Not just a season highlight, it's tie with the s1 Dracula ep for me as "Best in Show." Period.

Also that song in the credits was great. I'm assuming it's off the score?

The merkin on the priestess was ridiculous. They must have borrowed it from the True Blood wardrobe for Lilith.

Yeah, I felt like Emma Stone with Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love when they showed shirtless Riario.

"It's like you're photoshopped."

I don't know...I wasn't really feeling that one. Da Vinci's vision quest felt like low budget filler, but I think it would have worked if Lorenzo and Lucretia hadn't also had "ghost" encounters of their own. It was just too much otherworldly nonsense all at once. Riario's scenes were fantastic though.

Also, the "deadly" snake they showed was a kingsnake, not a coral snake. Kingsnakes aren't poisonous (to humans, anyway) and I don't know why they didn't just get a coral snake for that shot, especially since none of the actors had to interact with it.

I thought Da Vinci's stuff was a little weak, but the Riario and Medici plotlines were great.

True. Red and yellow, kill a fellow; red and black, friend of Jack....or something like that. I might be misremembering the rhyme from when I was a kid.

Lol, worst time ever to misremember a rhyme.

Because you can find a king snake at most pet shops whereas coral snakes and other venomous snakes are really limited to specialty shops that service zoos and crazy people. The drug manufacturers don't even bother stocking Coralmyn any more because bites are so rare. Who is going to want to handle one of the things for a TV shoot when you know your handler is going to just have to hope for the best and the only people who are gonna be bothered are serpentologists and internet guys.

I admit, I was busy doing something on my phone and wasn't paying full attention when the horse scene started. All I heard was Lorenzo talking and when I looked at the screen all I saw was a head pop off. I literally jumped off the couch screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Had to rewind to make sure it wasn't Lorenzo, I was scared for a second.

That's the one. Everyone knows the rhyme so that makes the error all the more egregious! :p

I mean...if a show is going to have a rattlesnake, they generally get one for the scene or at the very least show some stock footage of one. They don't show a garden snake and hope that people think it's a rattler. Coral snakes are generally easy to handle because their fangs are very small and can't penetrate most materials, so it really wouldn't have been an issue for an experienced snake handler. At the very very least they could have digitally switched the stripes around to make it look like a coral snake. I admit that this is a silly nitpick though so I'll stop now. :D

I read the IGN review, and agree: The final scene should have been Lorenzo screaming 'NO MORE GAMES!' after winning the Mad King's game. Would have tied everything together, with Lorenzo, Leo, and Riario emerging victorious in their trials.

But great episode. I loved that everything really, truly tied together for everyone (except Lucrezia, but even sorta still Lucrezia). Riario, Leonardo, and Lorenzo all suffered such crazy tests and came out through the other side, actually kinda fucked up and victorious. I truly did feel awful for Riario, even knowing the terrible things he's done. Seriously, that guy is the standout actor in this show. The survival Predator sequences in the cornfields were so fucking great. Leo's vision quest was alright. Lorenzo's stuff was also great.

Guiliano appearing was also great.

Thanks Nostradamus. What's your predictions for Season 3?

It's hard to say. I haven't read anything online about how it's doing in relation to Starz' expectations, how well it's doing On Demand® or internationally, or what have you.

All I know is:

It's expensive to produce.

Its first run ratings are at the mid-to-low end of the Starz spectrum.

It's in its second season.

It showed virtually no growth season to season.

And that Starz likes to cancel their shows when the above criteria are met. So.

Goddamn it.
