Damn, Ford is crushing it at CES

I don't have much love for Ford, but got damn they are killing it. Dashboard integration using voice/data plans and not some extra monthly fee, THANK YOU.

I had thought Ford was already selling the new Fiesta here in So Cal considering I've been seeing a lime green Fiesta 5-door at the gym all the time. Cool looking car in person, btw.

I've also rented a Mondeo when I went to England last year and that thing is a nice ass ride for what it's worth.

I gotta say, with Toyota having recall issues, Chrysler likely out of business in 3-4 years and GM being, well, GM, Ford should make big market share gains this year. I guess their market share went up 1.1% last year, which seems minimal, but I guess that's the equivalent to 1/2 a year of production at an assembly plant, which is a lot of fucking jobs.

As to the Mondeo, I'm guessing Ford will base the next Fusion revamp off it.

Here is some more anecdotal evidence for you! I drive a 1996 Ford F-150 with nearly 200,000 miles on it. No real problems with it ever.

Actually their big trucks are simple and reliable. Except for the ones with lots of electronics. Its their 80s, 90s and early 00 cars that suck. But honestly, the Focus was always good and their new stuff is not only good, it's in some ways amazing.

I won't ever buy a Taurus but I would be pleased, rather than sad when I get one at the rental office. I am always sad when I rent a car and it's American. Those days are ending!

Why would I want this? Certainly is nothing that my phone can't do and I'm not sure I want to read tweets while I drive. I suppose for other people.

I actually love the new Taurus SHO, but I priced one and to get all the options on it it would run $40K+. If I was going to spend that kind of money I don't think it would be on a Ford. I would probably buy a Certified Pre-Owned Infiniti or Lexus.

Looks really cool, but I'm not sure how much I would care about some of that stuff. I do kind of like the Fiesta though. At some point in the next year I'm going to get a new car so I can keep miles off of the '76 Olds. Perhaps I'll add the Fiesta to the list of cars to look at along with the Chevy Cruze.

I'm glad they're finally bringing over the euro style Focus with the launch of the 3rd gen this year. The current Focus looks like a shiny log that fell out of a butt.

I'll never buy an American car (or bike RIP Buell) but I appreciate the effort they're putting in.

Meh, if you think it's anecdotal and that the phrase Fix Or Repair Daily came about by myth, then be my guest. We've had:

1990 Taurus
2000 Explorer
2002 Expedition Eddie Bauer
2004 Explorer

ALL have had to go to the repair shop MULTIPLE times. The years may be a bit of, since they were my dad's, but only by a year or two. The last two had leaking moonroofs. One had a transmission problem, and the Expedition had electrical problems. The first Explorer was in all the time for countless things I can't mention. The Taurus was bought used and had all sorts of transmission problems.

My mom's 1993 Corolla is still running. Ugly as hell on the outside, and the axle is broken, but the engine is still running strong. My sister's 1995 Tercel only stopped running when it was totalled. Her 1999 Camry is running flawlessly.

Toyota makes better cars than Ford. If you think otherwise, you're an idiot. Most EU and JP cars are simply better-built. I have no remorse for people who flush their money down the drain of domestic cars. PEACE.

EDIT: You don't buy a car for the dash, those electronics are easy to replace. Buy it for the underpinnings. The chassis, engine and transmission. You know, the multiple-thousand dollar repairs and shit. Wait for every manufacturer to adopt the dash. It'll happen by next year.

This thread is about how Ford cars are getting better. Which they are, empirically. The cars you listed are well-known bags of shite.

The new Taurus, Fusion are incredibly well-reviewed. And apart from the SHO mentioned above, really good value. I'd personally still get the Honda equivalent, but I'd at least consider the Ford now.

And it would be worse. The SHO is a magnificent car, even if some people can't get over the "Ford" badge being on the car.

Used to. Every analysis out in the last year and a half or so says Ford is on par with Toyota and Honda.

Fuck Toyota as of late.

My 2004 Corolla has 95K miles and has been to the shop for one stupid reason or another multiple times in the past year.

Look, I don't know you and you don't know me. I have a bachelors degree in automotive technology I know what the fuck I am talking about. What do you do for a living out of curiosity? Apparently it has nothing to do with maintaining a vehicle, since you say that you ran the Toyota for 9000 miles on the same oil. Real smart. If you learned that from your father, then I can pretty much assume why the cars had so many problems.

FWIW, this is a thread about how much IMPROVEMENT Ford has made in the last few years and it is huge in all areas. The current Fords are on par, and often better, than the Japanese car makers in all areas.

It's not a secret that Ford has had some problems in the 90's and early 00's with their cars (not trucks, they have always been top notch), but the advances that they have made in recent years are great.

the one thing Ford needs to fix is their ugly blue logo. It always stands out and looks tacky on more modern looking cars.

This I agree with - I think they should badge the cars with a slate gray backgroud instead of blue, but I guess it's "iconic."

Anyone want to shop one up?

Toyota led in recalls for the year...with GM and Ford following.
Toyota's quality has dropped remarkably due to their chasing of becoming the largest automaker. That does not mean the rest of the Japanese have sunk so low. Honda is still doing extremely well quality wise, and Nissan has improved greatly from their early 2000s.

Not to discount Ford and GM, they make pretty good cars. This technology is nice, but hardly game changing.

Try going 9000 miles on non-synthetic oil in a Ford without the engine crapping out on you. I've done that countless times in my old Corolla.

Just because the Toyota manages to withstand stupid-ass owners better than the Ford does doesn't make the owner any less stupid. Driving for 9000 miles on any type of oil is a bad fucking idea.

Want a car? Buy Japanese or German. Italian for Sports. British(German really) for luxury. Don't waste money on trash.

People comparing Ford to GM is insulting. The last Consumer Reports annual car publication has GM and Chrysler comparable to Kia and Suzuki, IIRC. While Ford hasn't made it to the Toyota/Honda level of reliability, they are far from GM.

This tech looks pretty awesome. Nothing I would ever pay for, but it definitely helps them standout from the crowd.

Toyota lead in recalls? I guess that's not surprising, because of the issues with the Camry. That's what happens when you flub up your best selling car.

Consumer Reports car reports are worthless.

OMG I don't have an automotive technology degree! Whatever that means.

It means I went through 4 years of schooling about every aspect of an automobile. I mean I wouldn't come into a thread about how to be a douchebag troll and try to tell you how to do it.

Remember when Ford went into LeMans and won 4 straight times from 1966-1969 after Ferrari won from 1960-1965. This was basically a "Fuck You" to Ferrari who pulled out of acquisition talks in 1963 without warning and Ford is taking on that attitude again with their consumer lineup.

So what do the 2011 explorers look like? I drive an 02 explorer, its had its fair of issues but mostly things my fault or small things I could fix on my own. With almost 85k miles id say its had a good run, and I wouldn't mind getting an upgrade. Unless I can get my dream g35 at a steal. :D

Wow, ford has put everything in that dash I ever wanted.

Ever since I start plugging my phone to the aux in to listen to pandora, I wanted a fucking car that could just use my phones data to play pandora.

Get your history right. Ford were incredibly dumb shits to try and put limits on the Gestione Sportiva, the entire reason the Ferrari road-car division existed.

Your argument would be better if you talked about Shelby. Now that is a story. But you took the GT40 designed in the UK, the dominant country in Motorsport after the withdrawal of Mercedes and Auto-Union.

Enzo cared about Grand Prix racing/F1 far more than Le Mans.

Anyway. It is amazing that Ford needed to be near bankruptcy before they let Ford Europe run the show. Amazing.

British for luxury? What a crock of shit, British cars have been piles of shit for 20 years now. They all review bottom of their class. British cars always have very aesthetically pleasing interiors and absolute shit for quality.

In my opinion the long standing truths in the auto industry are changing. Toyota and Honda are no longer in a league of their own for quality. Korean manufacturers are actually damn good. US manafucturers have caught up in most respects, if not surpassed their counterparts in a few areas. (Chrystler still being a POS.) I mean, the Corvette is maybe the best car ever made when you take value into consideration. Japanese luxury brands are starting to mass produce cars targetted at speed, horsepower, and handling, not just comfort anymore, and they are doing a damn good job of it threatening the Euro manufacturers.

In my opinion, the two manufacturers to watch are Hyundai and Ford.

Rolls Royce is the premier luxury carmaker. Designed by the Germans these days. Germans are better than everyone else when it comes to engineering. Why is this?

LOL, I don't really think anyone is talking about custom made, million dollar automobiles. Maybach is also right up there with Rolls, they just don't have the history.

Time for some truth.

You'd be hard pressed to find better cars than the Mondeo and Focus in their class.

You'd be hard pressed to say Corvettes and Mustangs are not amazing value for money (despite the fact they are made out of plastic and have poor handling).
