Too Kyo Games and Akatsuki Games announced Tribe Nine on June 6. The upcoming free-to-play title will be available on PC (Steam) and iOS/Android.

Described as an “extreme” action RPG that blends 2D and 3D graphics, Tribe Nine is set in a futuristic Neo Tokyo ruled by deadly games. A varied cast of teenaged characters engage in life-or-death battles in hopes of reclaiming their stolen dreams and freedom. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Tribe Nine’s setting was developed by Too Kyoo Games, the studio led by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka.

Tribe Nine’s gameplay consists of exploring Neo Tokyo with your party and defeating enemies to liberate the city. You can form your own party with up to three members – each character possesses unique skills and behaviors that can be strategically mixed and matched. As you explore futuristic Tokyo, you will also come across various mini games and receive side quests from locals.

Tribe Nine is free-to-play with in-game purchases planned down the road. New story installments and cities will be added to the game through future updates.

Noisy Pixel did a preview on Tribe Nine recently:

Tribe Nine, developed by TooKyo Games and Akatsuki Games, is an extreme baseball RPG that combines action-packed combat with unique debate mechanics. The game’s stunning visual presentation, reminiscent of Danganronpa, sets a new standard in gacha games. While the gacha system and character progression offer depth, some design issues, such as the necessity of specific character affinities for effective combos and slow leveling, may deter some players. Overall, Tribe Nine is shaping up to be an innovative and visually captivating entry in the genre.
