If Lincoln fought vampires, whats there to say that he wasn't black?

In Spielberg we trust.

He made Schindler's List, so he is pretty good at doing historical films.

Amistad

Because this is now a Spielberg thread, I just want to say that I think Minority Report kind of sucks. I say 'kind of' because at times it's really good. But for the most part, it takes a very interesting story and makes it look terribly dull. Some of the decisions in lighting, composition, and shooting are just poor.
I wanna slap your right across the face. Especially for badmouthing kaminskis excellent work in Minority Report.

Meh, just sounds like Sam Waterson to me. Might just be a case of "closest we've had" rather than actually accurate.

Shameless plug: My father has written a couple of books featuring Lincoln as a character. This is one: Abraham Lincoln, Detective

What the hell is wrong with you people? You can see the dude saying the line in the trailer. Am I going insane? Are you? We haven't heard DDL yet. Bunch of crazies.

We will never have an accurate version of his voice. Even with description, we don't know how high or how shrill. We don't even know what was considered a high voice to those who described it.

Fuckin' this. They show the guy talking. It's not like it's cut in a way that leaves it ambiguous. The soldier is clearly reciting the dialogue to Lincoln and then walking away as he continues. His voice even trails slightly as he walks away. I assume that everybody is very very drunk.

Is that the score? It sounds very familiar.

I don't get it though. I wonder how Spielberg handled the vampire parts because it might seem different in tone with the rest of the movie.

The soldier's recitation of the speech is much more evident when viewed in 1080p, but people are probably questioning it because the scene makes no sense. I have never seen anyone just walk away like that in the middle of an important speech. I can only imagine that the trailer was badly cut or presents the scene in a completely different context than the one it will eventually appear.

Shindlers list is 19 years old. War horse came out last winter. Which one is a better example of Steven Spielberg in 2012?

Munich, which had the same writer and long pre-production period as Lincoln. Unlike War Horse whose script was rushed out by a bunch of nobodies after Spielberg saw the play earlier in the year.

Also, Amistad really is awful.

Lincoln, which isn't out yet.

This movie soccer match is pointless. I can't judge one Spielberg film against another unless it's in the same series on an established formula. I loved Tintin, and disliked War Horse. I don't find modern Spielberg worth avoiding at all.

I imagine the soldier is reciting Lincoln's own words back to him as if to prove a point.

The years when Spielberg cranks out both a blockbuster and a ponderous drama are the best.

Schindler/Jurassic Park & Munich/War of the Worlds were all great.

It's not an important speech. It's just some guy repeating the words from an important speech. It's not made clear whether he's saying them in a positive or negative light. Since he's a black union soldier, I could see him as either repeating the speech to Lincoln as just a way of saying he admired it so much that he memorized it, or maybe mocking it, like "The speech is nice, but the things you say in it are never going to happen." It doesn't not make sense, it's just vague.

To be fair, my main problem with War Horse (which is a type of movie I like), was that everybody the horse came into contact with deserved him more than that dumbass kid and they all managed to die on or off screen. It got redundant and bullshitty. The scene where the two sides stop fighting over the horse was great, but there was already a great movie made about this very idea. It was called Joyeux Noel.

I have no problems with Tintin. None. Whatsoever. Period.

Super 8 was great until I saw the alien design, but I still enjoyed it for the kid's performances. It had some very Jurassic Park-ish moments.

It sounds to me like he's saying it with the grandiosity befitting an important speech, which is why, of course, it's in the trailer at all. It's supposed to communicate big emotions. So it's jarring when he turns and walks away, because it's not at all consistent with the actual voiceover. The fact that this is even a debate means that the trailer isn't put together very well.

The story in Tintin is also way better than people give it credit for. The way past and present merge is both subtle and not subtle in the best ways. This is a movie that actually manages to improve on the source material by adding a good villain.

The action sequences are some of the most memorable in recent years, and with only a couple of small few seconds getting in the way, I tend to forget I'm watching an animated movie.
