Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

Okay we have an official super clear comparison between all the versions of this re-release, including a comparison with what will be in the 1.10 Patch for last-gen owners.

http://darksouls.jp/pc/scholar_of_th...pecmatrix.html

The chart is in Japanese, so I'll translate the column on the left indicating the features. The rest should be self-explanatory.

New Features:
- New characters and events (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)
- Story and world additions (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)
- Graphics and performance upgrades (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Improved online multiplayer (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Enemy and game design adjustments (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Various balancing tweaks (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)

Not adding enemy and game design adjustments? uh. Maybe it's just stuff tailored toward 6 players.

Thank you for absolute clarity, this answers any and all questions.

Am I reading it wrong or the press release is essentially stating that whoever owns a copy of DSII on PC will get all the DLCs for free when the DX9 version of SotFS is released?

Oh man... quickly reading the OP had me worried that the improved graphical options wouldn't be available on PC.

DX11 version, yes!

I was going to get the DLC on an upcoming Steam sale, but I may just wait to rebuy the powered up version.

Dark Souls 2 is still my GOTY. Love it.

The only thing I don't like is they don't seem to clarify how the graphics are improved. At least, not in the polygon article.

No. The only thing that comes with the free patch are balance changes and item description stuff, etc.

Uh. Fuck.

Edit: Would enhanced lighting and torches being important to the gameplay count as a game design adjustment?

It's possible but there's nothing expanding on what exactly the adjustments are other than the fact that apparently the high-spec performance allows for them to change enemy placements and make certain game design changes which can't be implemented in the last-gen versions.

Thanks for translating these.

The more I know about this the less interested it makes me.

Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2 in the same year...
1233928590_citizen%20kane%20clapping.gif

I feel like this is going to take away from the anticipation of bloodborne...

Not gonna double dip this time around

I got bored of DS2 a lot more quickly than with the first

Bloodburne will do it for me

I can't wait for the Namco version of "HD towns are hard"

I wanted to wait for this, but I'm just too big a fan of the series and had to get it day 1. I'm sure many are in a similar position.

That being said, I feel like Bloodborne really dulls any excitement I may have had for this. Time will tell though!

Sigh...

Better be a cheap upgrade option. I don't have the DLC yet so I might bite, but if I had the DLC I'd be pissed.

Cheap upgrade just like all of those other remasters coming out lately, right?

Care to elaborate?
Because of this.
Because they are forcing PC users to pay full price for a patch by the sounds of it. No upgrade for current users etc.

We can't upgrade the existing game eventhough we have the hardware to support it. It also fractures the online community.

Think of it this way they are selling us a next gen version of a game we already bought a year ago on PC and not making it compatible with our saves, our existing community or upgradable.

No one knows if it's "full price" yet. People are overreacting as usual.

I paid full price at launch and 25 more later for a season pass for a game that thanks to this dumb move will have pretty a dead online community unless I spend however much more for the new version we should be getting as an upgrade anyway.

Sounds like overreacting. Wait for Scamco confirmation then go berserk. I'm sure they will do a Deus Ex: HR Directors Cut upgrade thing.

They've already confirmed pricing for the different versions.
Which doesn't mean anything. They just announced the price for the full release.
They could do what a lot of publishers already did in the past and offer a heavy discount for whoever owns the previous version on Steam.

Anyway, they better be ready to offer some massive visual upgrades if they actually hope to sell more than few hundred copies on PC to people who already bought the previous version.

Tuco, let be honest, do you really think they will do a huge discount when they already know that a good part of the people will buy it, even if they triple dip it?

Well, yeah. A few companies give loyalty discounts for people with the original version. Square Enix did it with the Deus Ex: Human Revolution re-release.

The DS2 situation is a little different, though, with all the drama around the stealth downgrade and all of Namco's bullshit. DS2 was clearly designed around improved dynamic lighting that was removed very late in development just so the game would run on low powered last-gen consoles. They didn't have to downgrade the PC release but why should they bother with the additional effort when they can just charge us a second time?

I actually think they will do it (or at least they should do it) precisely because I doubt many people would bite otherwise.

Common, even scam artists like Capcom offered SF4:AE owners a upgrade option to Ultra instead of making them buy the full game again.

While I'm at it, for those interested these are the system requirements for the DX11 PC version:

Recommended:
CPU - Intel® Core™ i7 2600 3.4 GHz / AMD® FX™ 8150 3.6 GHz
RAM - 8GB RAM
HDD - 15GB or more
GPU - NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 750(700 series) or higher / ATI Radeon™ HD 7850(7000 series) or higher

Minimum:
CPU - Intel® Core™ i3 2100 3.1 GHz / AMD® A8 3870 3.6GHz
RAM - 4GB RAM
HDD - 15GB or more
GPU - NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 465 / ATI Radeon™ HD 6870

They already said no upgrades

Edit: the fuck at those specs. :lol. My dual core runs the base game at a stable 60 at Max settings, save for Majula, oddly enough.

People mentioning Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut and the Metro games... I just want to point out that those were actually effectively downgrades in many ways.

Either way, I doubt there will be loyalty pricing. This year has shown that remasters can sell pretty well, even for recent games.

I have no doubt about a loyalty discount.
The questions are, how deep will the discount be, will you get deeper discount if you own dlc/season pass vs the just the base game, and how long does the discount last.

HDD - 15GB or more

DaS2 with all the dlc is about 14gigs. 1 gig extra space doesn't leave a whole lot of room for higher resolution textures or anything like that. :|

They already said no upgrades

There's no upgrade option, but a loyalty discount on Steam would amount to the same thing in the end. The more important point is that you cannot change your DX9 version into the DX11 version. Saves are incompatible, servers are different, etc.

So I read some of this, and the gist of this is From Software is screwing us hardcore here?

DX11 version, we have to buy? Non-compatible characters? Multiplayer is not the same servers?

This is absurd!

EA / EA would BLUSH at the idea pulling something this horrible, and less than a year to boot!

Are those screenshots in the OP supposed to be the new version?
Because they look worse than what I already played on PC.
