Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

I already planned to replay DS1 after the transfer to steam from GFWL is complete. So I'll go DS1 -> Bloodborne -> DSII.

It's going to be awesome, but I still fear that DSII will feel underwhelming after Bloodborne.

Dang, I only bought the PS3 version last month. And I had already held out for so long.... Still, I haven't purchased any of the DLC, so it's probably likely that I will end up double-dipping, anyway.

No upgrade just means you can't turn the DX9 copy into a DX11 copy, rather it's a separate entry. Doesn't mean that there will not be a discount for previous owners.(which is extremely likely)

This is the biggest problem I have. Upgrade the online for everybody and charge more for graphic updates and story content if you want but to split the community into DX9 and DX11 users a year after the game comes out is just bad for the PC community.

Cool news. I think I will be more or less done with DS2 next year and knee deep in Bloodnorne, but this is great for folks who have yet to try it.

If the game has the lighting upgrades we thought it would have originally I may have to take the plunge for 1 playthrough on PC.

So I read some of this, and the gist of this is From Software is screwing us hardcore here?

DX11 version, we have to buy? Non-compatible characters? Multiplayer is not the same servers?

This is absurd!

EA / EA would BLUSH at the idea pulling something this horrible, and less than a year to boot!

You don't have to buy it... Not sure how they are screwing anyone by offering an updated version of the game with lots of changes. Maybe community fragmentation could be a concern.

There's no upgrade option, but a loyalty discount on Steam would amount to the same thing in the end. The more important point is that you cannot change your DX9 version into the DX11 version. Saves are incompatible, servers are different, etc.
Ah. Sorry, blind rage mode disengaged. I feel dumb for stating it as fact now. Thanks for clarifying.

I hope that the changes warrants the price tag at least.

Are those screenshots in the OP supposed to be the new version?
Because they look worse than what I already played on PC.

Imagine if it ends up looking and running worse :lol

I am not pleased to played a game with dumb IA, weird hitboxes, lame fixes, lazy zones nerfs, the history was cut off, sent it as a form of DLC then get a shitty ending with a shitty buff and the real ending was probably saved for this case alone.
Which is completely unrelated to the joke you made.
And for a large part you don't even know for sure if the new version is going to address several of these flaws.

I will double dip, but not until I am through with Bloodborne. I expect that game to keep me occupied for a good while. Once I'm ready for Dark Souls 2, it should be a bit cheaper.

Yeah, I'll probably do something similar.

Will also allow me to wait and see what the graphical improvements actually entail:

This is awful. I feel bile in the back of my throat. I never imagined From Software would do something that EA or Ubisoft would consider far to money grubbing.

Apparently a 70 hour game isn't enough for some. And the hitbox problems are overblown. Guess what people, I'm sure you can cherry pick and post gifs of the same 4 enemies from Dark Souls 1 and say it has broken hitboxes as well.

I have such conflicting feelings about this... New free content is great. Having to upgrade to get the graphical and online updates isn't. Splitting the playerbase isn't. Not being able to transfer saves to that updated version isn't. I have over 200 hours on one of my characters. She has almost everything in the game. No way will I want to do that again.

That's where I'm at exactly man. I am a PvP and co op player exclusively with hundreds of hours on a single character. this kinda took the wind out of me.

DX11 support being behind a paywall, along with people that buy the DX11 version being completely alienated from the DX9 people, is whats making a lot of PC users sour.

I do hope "DX11 features" doesn't mean lens flare...
This looks like they added it in Photoshop too

Please no. Play Dark Souls 1 even if you have to get the crappy PC port.

Listen to this man. A Souls devirginising is a special thing.

Start with Dark and be both humbled and amazed as your gaming life changes before your eyes.

Play Demon's and appreciate the beautiful, albeit less refined and smaller-in-scope origins.

Play Dark 2 and have a ball, but wonder where that Souls "soul" you've so come to love has vanished to.

Recall this post and rate it on a scale of 'Thanks, mickcenary' to 'Fucking Hyperbolic Souls Fans'.

great! I've bought the DLC after they were all released, hardly played them and with this news I'll now wait for the ps4 version. so fucking great!

after watching pc gamers stream the DLC stuff going back to my ps3 felt like playing a GBA version of the game, so I gladly wait for the remaster.

It'll make the flaws of Dark Souls 2 even more apparent if Bloodborne is a return to the quality of Demon's and Dark Souls.

I thought the general consensus was that DS2>DS1. Can't speak for demons though.

and i'm sure that even though it's just a remaster that it won't be the exact same game. they'll probably remove all the flaws.

I think this is Namco's doing. Even if FROM wanted to be the worst money grubbing bastards on earth, they would not be serving their own interests by releasing it so close to Bloodborne. One thing is for sure: despite having a small fraction of the potential user base, Bloodborne's online will probably be healthier since it will not be split across six versions. I had far fewer interactions in the fifteen or so hours I spent in Dark Souls than in any fifteen hour segment of Demon's Souls. That game was only split between two versions when I played it.

And this is why I never bought Dark Souls 2 in the first place! Was like 99% sure there would be an upgraded port. Still with the release date being so close to that of Bloodborne, I'm not sure which one to get first, and which one to wait on for a while. Can't play too many similar games in a row.

Ugh. It really does look much worse than what I played last week.

As someone without a PS4: for the love of a that is good: get Bloodbourne!

Already played through DS2 + DLCs on my PC. Dx11 could make the game nicer but I am not going to pay again. Waiting for Bloodborne instead.

But ps3/360 players should consider to upgrade/rebuy... 60fps makes the game much better, imo.

Well, I'm in for the PS4 version. I didn't play Dark Souls 2, so I'm curious to check it out. Though I imagine it'll be a little tough to go back to after Bloodborne hits. I might be FROM-ed out at that point.

I don't think getting From-ed out is even possible! I could easily go another play through of DS2 right now, but I force myself to stop in order to play the rest of the games I have.

that's because the online hardly worked. not because it was split between 3 platforms.

edit: wait, there's a dragon in heide tower now?

- Supports existing save data (Supported for all last-gen versions of SoFS and the 1.10 Patch, not supported for next-gen versions of SoFS)
welp no fucking way am I starting over from my 225 hour save :( no update for me I'll be playing bloodborn anyway will still play a play-through once the patch is out

Ugh nearly put in 300 hours into this game already and still considering getting this. But probably not at launch since I'll still be busy with Bloodborne.

It's from the official site. Don't know what they were thinking as the top two shots in the op does nothing to give any good impressions anyway. I want to see if they've done improvements to the lighting system.

I mean just LOOK at this shit: http://www.darksoulsii.com/us/news.1.php#item0:

o_O.....what was the guy that decided to use that shot thinking.

480px × 270px jpeg images...and how are those showcasing the cool stuff about the "new" product...?

OK, more Dark Souls - good, but they should do better to impress people if they want anyone to buy it....gone from excited to sceptical.

Anyhow, glad the original still exists..going to replay it with DSfix soon. :)

I implore PC owners to not purchase this, even if there's a discount. Obviously, it's your money, but this practice can't be supported. I know this includes all the DLC, but the rest should be free.

How long will it be before we get game releases, with DX11 Day One DLC? And then we bend over again once DX12 comes out next year.

The game won't look as good as what you already played on your PC.
But why shouldn't it? I'd hope at least the PC version would.

It sadly doesn't seem like there are any significant asset upgrades in the screenshots they've released so far. Or lighting for that matter.

(Here's a shot of what the starting area looks like for me now)
