Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

All these people with similar pc's to mine, and it runs like garbage in some areas, with constant stuttering in most places. Turning down graphical options does nothing either.

Super weird.

Game is running superbly tonight, post-patch. Could be the areas that I'm in or any number of other things but whatever it is, I'll take it.

Check your GPU usage. Tell me if it's going below 99% when you notice the frame rate drops.

Performance has been much better for me after the patch. I also set my GPU to maximum performance in the power options, and it's been basically flawless for me.

I got 21:9 working by using this: http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=30954&sta

Ui obviously not scaled but its still glorious

It wouldn't shock me if MC in DS3 was too. After all, dude spawns in a dream world out of nowhere and conquers the world.

I don't think so considering there's a
ring that makes you look like a phantom. But eh, who knows. I just think it makes the game look uglier, lol.

Super weird.

I've got a close setup.

i5 3570K,
16 GB RAM,
and a 970.

The game was pretty smooth until this latest patch. Now I'm seeing more pop-in and stuttering everywhere.

I've been playing at 1440p most of the game and have been 60fps stable. Outside of load triggers and other hitches, which will never get fixed in this engine, I haven't had issues with my SLI configuration. So far tested out a few areas at 4K and performance seems the same. I'm at
Boreal Valley
.
Boreal Valley
is the worst location on my setup, also
Demon Ruins
i get abou 50 to 55 there, and crazy frametimes....
Are you making any special or graphical tweaks to get SLI working? Turning it off was the only way I could stop crashing every death. My rig is pretty generic.

Setup:
4790k
980 SLI
16GB RAM
SSD
Windows 10 64
All drivers and such up to date
We have exactly the same setup except that i have the non-k CPU.
I am not doing anythin beyond acrivating SLI in the CP.
The only things i did prefiously was forcing some global settings in the CP like:
-Single Display Performance Mode
-Prefer Maximum Performance
-16x AF
- VSynch
-Triple Buffering
-Threaded Optimization

I'm not OCing either, just watching the CPU and GPU with RTSS.
The game never utilizes any CPU core beyond 70% and GPUs are both below 50% at 1440p Max.
It feels like the game doesnt want to utilize the power it gets from my PC

I haven't had any issues close to yours with SLI Titans X since the first and later drivers for the DS3. Generally, I would recommend reinstall the drivers using the custom > clean option. Then, if your cpu and/or video card is OC, whether by user or directly from manufacturer, downclock to the normal stock speed.
Clean driver installing was my first though too but didnt help when it comes to the performance.
Why would downclocking be necessary with SLI? Isnt it doing just that anyway, Unsing the weaker cards clocks?

They definitely went backwards in terms of UI. Bloodborne's was amazing. This HUD in particular looks like a rush job.

Yeah, I set it on Auto just to hide it cause it takes too much screen space.

Game runs fine for me, no crashes. Occasional popping and item stutters here and there.

I'm now in the
catacombs with the skeletons
. I'm getting some very annoying texture pop in this place. Whenever i turn the camera, i can see some black or white blocks being filled with graphics/textures in the distance. This happens in other areas too, but in this one it happens often enough to be distracting.

Try zooming into walls and floor with bow and see if you get this too:
I'm getting also lot worse texture pop-in after the patch in addition to those weird black squares at the bottom of the screen when using bow/binoculars.
Funny thing is that it doesn't happen in 1440p for me but game runs in 40fps so not really an option.

It's your hollowing level. When you become a hollow (as part of the Yoel questline) your character no longer casts shadow. It sucks and makes no sense, I know. Wish there was a mod for that. I'm surprised very few people are noticing this.
The worst thing is that now i have to
pay 3 times more souls, compared to the ones i saved for the "free" levels i got from him, to get back my face and shadow
(the face i like, the lack of shadow is annoying). So in the end, it's not worth it getting those, unless you don't care about your character looking like a glitch.

might watch out, From softbanned people for that in DS2. Not a big deal if you don't care about mp though, lol >.>

I played around 100 hours of DS 2 using the widescreen fixer to play it in triple screen and the only time I got banned was because I opened the game with an old save by accident and FROM thought I was playing with my stats.

Bloodborne also went backwards though, no Auto-hide UI after Dark II was really disappointing. Dark III's HUD is very dinamic in Auto mode.

Got my PC running max settings at locked 59-60fps.

The problem?

CPU was overheating rapidly (up to 99c!)

Cleaned my fan, cleaned up my thermal paste (buying some more today as well as a new fan).

W/o thermal paste I'm running 70-75c, still a bit too warm for my liking but it's running a locked 60 now. Anxious to see how a new fan/paste will help it today.

Thanks for all the replies and help.

Also got a fresh W10 install out of it that I've been too lazy to do, so that's been nice for my PC :)

Cheers

Anyone noticed missing textures in the game? (PC version)

Take the elevator up
near the great wolf (the one you pray on to get into the covenant)
and then take the stairs up. Just before you go to the top, see the wall. There's a long, thin, shiny strip where no textures are applied and it looks out of place.

Is this the same for everyone? I couldn't print screen because for some reason it doesn't work.

I've had several instances of missing textures, dark silver shimmering surfaces.

Is this the right place to ask why I got the super special Offline Only version of DS3 on Steam?
Because online does not connect. At all. Fails to log in every time.

I guess it's pretty daring of From Soft to release a Dark Souls completely devoid of an online component, but it is weird that there's still covenants. I wonder if online play was scrapped towards the end of development.

Saying you have a problem with online and listing your setup etc is going to be a lot more useful than all the snark. I know your frustrated though.

Googling it a lot of other people are having the same problem. One said it was something with his internet and when switching his phone to be a mobile hotspot he connected no problem. Another person said to try having steam download a game in the background while you play and it will work.

What router do you have and what is your ISP? Do you have a modem or anything else before you are connected to your router? Also what region are you in?

Glad to hear you found the problem. I'd wager a large percentage of users having issues with performance in DSIII are CPU-limited for whatever reason. In any case, good luck with the new cooler assembly. :-)

DS2 is not the same as Scholar.

From was pretty live and let live with OG version. Scholar they banned pretty much everyone for everything. Big difference.

If you want to play stat wars then fine: me I have 100 hours in ds2, and around 90 in scholar. Scholar they softbanned a fucking shit ton more for dinky shit.

That better?

Anyone else get an Out of memory error?

Got one yesterday when I got the game and was at the starting area deciding which resolution to downsample from, when I switched (to 1440p) I think the game crashes and I got a "ran out of system memory" error.

I played around a bit more with resolutions after and even though it did crash a few times I never got that error again.

It's been fine since I stopped switching res but I haven't been paying attention to mem usage either.

No issues with AMD? It seems that 90-95% of the posts here that having some issues are Nvidia users. I wanna jump in but I don't want to waste money if it's going to be stressful to play because of the performance.

Ever since I started on day one, I haven't crashed a single time. The only minor things with me are the random dips when auto-saving or looking at certain items on the ground. Otherwise, I get a locked 1080p/60fps on a i7-4790k / GTX 770 4GB / 16 GB RAM / Samsung EVO SSD. Everything is on high minus lighting, DoF and motion blur.

I'm happy to hear that you found the issue and fixed it! Enjoy the game!

Thanks :) Its a good feeling lol, 60fps is too nice. Missed it since DS2.

Seems to be running at a consistent 78c during gameplay, idle is around 33-40.

Seems to be all good!

Unbelievable.
I've put in the game over 60 hours, playing it since it was a review code and never suffered of save stuttering.
It started with my last session.
Urgh.

This right here is why I might just leave my PC copy alone till they fix this and continue playing on PS4. That stuttering is just killing my vibe.

moved my save over to my other comp to try it, i5-3570 at 4.2 and OC 7950 and it runs great on high. i get the stutters tho , so i have seen stutterfall. on 6700k and 980ti i noticed it like 3 times in 30hrs.

And the constant choppiness of the PS4 version doesn't?

Kinda OT, is ~80c a normal temperature for an i7 4790 under full load?

Idle its around 30-50.

Using the stock fan.

Don't have the same CPU but that seems somewhat high, although seems like DSIII really works them CPU/GPU, my 970 gets up to ~65c, only Witcher 3 on ultra had gotten it that high.

You could really benefit from an aftermarket cooler, your entire PC will be cooler.

I have both versions too and in my opinion the drops from 60 to 50 with the bad frametimes that acompany them are worse than the fluctuation between 30 and 28. Cutting down the PC version to 30 FPS just doesnt feel right either if you are used to 60 FPS and expect that of a game.

The console versions have constant frame pacing issues though, so I'm not sure why sub 30fps with pacing feels better to you than 60fps with the odd micro-stutter during an autosave, and I haven't experienced any pacing issues on PC and they weren't shown in the Digital Foundry video either. The game has been buttery smooth for me, apart from the autosave issue. I tried the PS4 version and it felt choppy and unresponsive in comparison.

if its the same as bloodborne i disagree, played on my lower end rig for like 10 hours now and 50-60 fips triple buffering on this game still feels way better to me.

any suggestions for my i7 4790?

I'd say that might be high if it's at stock clock frequency, but it's safe. I think 100 celcius is the max.

any suggestions for my i7 4790?

Probably the Hyper 212 EVO if you want something cheap that's good, this will probably get you around 65ish degrees compared to what you are getting right now.

If you want something with better performance albeit more expensive you're probably better off asking in the PC build thread as I've been out of the loop as of late in terms of CPU coolers to be honest.

For reference I have an i5 2500k at 4.0GHz with a Noctua NH-D14 and running DSIII gets it around 47-49c but I believe my CPU is slightly cooler than yours with stock coolers but you could definitely be getting those temps with a better cooling solution than the Hyper.

This is the 2nd time Ive been recommended this. Think I'm gonna go for it. Thanks! :)

Just wanted to report that I haven't had any bonfire crashes post patch with Lighting set to the highest in the last 6 hours of playtime.
Either I'm lucky or From actually fixed the problem for my setup. 780ti

Played a few hrs yesterday with solid 60 fps

Motion blur and depth of field turned off, shadows at medium, everything else at max settings ingame (+AA turned on), combined with vsync enabled in nvidia control panel.

2560x1440 resolution
3570k @ 3,4 ghz
Evga gtx 970 ssc
8g ram
SSD

CPU temperature around 60 c
GPU temperature around 68-74 c

Gonna try a little tonight with 2880x1620 resolution since my 4k tv supports it.
Tried it briefly a few days ago and it seemed to be 50-60 fps.
