Dark Souls 3 Trailer (Gamescom 2015)

Mixed feelings about the gameplay footage.. It certainly looks good but that bump in speed just seems weird on characters in full plate armour. One of the things I like in Souls is the realistic compromise between choosing heavy armour/big weapons and slower movement over light gear and nimbleness.

Hope it keeps its own identity and feeling, doesn't have to be too bloodborny.

yeah agreed

Media blackout form here on out?

Im gonna try. Its not like I dont have enough to play! Gaming has been SOOO good lately

I think weightness will still be there. He probably SHOULD be running slower in that armor but they tend to give players an unrealistic character on demo builds to allow for freedom right?

Its still Dark Souls man

Gotta love german

Only thing i dont like is that huge inventory that shows items and weapons. It always takes up alot of space. Id be glad if they implement bloodbornes more minimalist version so its less intrusive.

As nitpicky and petty as it sounds, I don't like the HUD. After being spoiled with Bloodborne's minimalist HUD it just feels too big. Everything else looks perfect.

They seem to have implemented the blood tech from Bloodborne; and yeah, I agree that it kinda has a DeS x DkS1 vibe - which is fantastic.

Agreed. I hope and believe they will use a more Bloodborne-isque UI in the finished game.

All concerns about wearing heavy armour and moving fast. It doesn't look any different to DS1 and having sub-25% equip load. You can do that wearing comperable armour type as long as your endurance was high enough or had Havel's ring on etc. Also, it's a demo and stats are probably bumped up for that purpose.

So far movement basically looks like it's the DS1 system, so rolls should be tiered still. Every other demo we've seen of a souls game before release has used a character with inflated stats and good equipment too.

When I heard that they were making DS3, I was surprised how little I cared. I'm a huge Soul fan but my reaction was 'meh'. I thought it was too early and franchise fatigue had set in, but this trailer got me hyped! I can't wait to play this.

I'm hoping for lots of different gear, weapons, magic, pyromancies and many viable builds and play styles. Bloodborne was very lacking in that regard. So little gear and everything played the same. Locations were also very samey, this will likely have much more variety like the first Souls games. Combine that with influence from Bloodborne's faster gameplay and this could end up being the best Souls game.

Hype overload. The game looks stunning. I'm really stoked to see all the new-gen fantasy locations. Bloodborne was great, but, I missed the sun a lot in that game.

PRAISE THE SUN

Also, charge attack HYPE.

I hope there is another cool Knight type enemy that has fallen to the dark side. I love fighting those guys than some monster.

Raime. Ornstein. Velstadth and Artorias are all badasses.

I don't see how this is any faster than Demon's Souls.

Rolling distance seems to be longer and the character is obviously fastrolling, but that might just be very high level build for demo purposes, as we've seen with these games since forever.

In that offscreen footage the stamina bar was really weird. I'm guessing they have stamina regen turned up in the demo

Ornstein never fell (at least he didnt in his best fight)

Wait a second...

Both equipment slots have durability bars under them still. I hope this doesn't mean durability will function as it did in DS2.

Why should it? That's one minor thing that was improved in DS2, knowing what the current status of your weapon/shield is.

I'm not seeing the Bloodborne influence so much. That one enemy sort of looked like the bell ringing lady but other than that, the rest of it looked way more Dark Souls. Even the quicker dodges look like DS dodges not BB dodges.

If the bars are there, the stricter durability rules are probably there too otherwise there would be no reason to have them, since durability is essentially a non-factor in the other games.

Since I haven't gone to bed yet, I'll give you a little bit of insight. The 20 under the stamina bar is how many uses the sword art still has. If you look near the shield icon at the bottom has a similar icon. The weapon they are using doesn't have their Sword Art available until two handing it.

Like I've said, shields of this size cannot parry so the L2 will perform this shield's specific Weapon Art.

From the dark souls general on /vg/, according to someone who played.

Interesting. The shield in the gameplay was a standard size shield, so does that mean parries can only be performed by small shields? Did the poster mention what the sword art for the shield was?

Not every shield can parry? That's really really interesting.

Hopefully bare hands will have their own weapon art for fists only runs. Though in the other hand, being able to just quickly remove your shield and parry by pressing left would also be really good.

only buckler type shields can parry

normal kite shield type shields' l2 is sword art
That sword art being the spin move from the trailer.

Only shields that are smaller than kite shields can parry. Only buckler sized shields can parry. Some shields have special moves like a "force"-esque knockback. Think of the Roar from Bloodborne. I forgot which one this shield does, but I believe it might be the roar.

This person probably didn't know what L2 did, thus still having their 20 charges to use for the Weapon Arts/Sword Arts.

On regaining the sword arts

We don't know. During the demo at the castle we only regained them though resting at a bonfire or dying.

Yet another reason for me to hope for 50% equip load being enough for fast rolls this time around. 3 weapon slots for each weapon, with even shields being completely different and all interesting would be such a waste if I can't carry more than one of each because of equip load.

On regaining the sword arts

SO GOOOOD

You gotta love just how different each game is from the previous one. Two more Souls games and I won't ever have time to play anything else.

Limited uses on sword arts sounds good. I assume it replenishes like spells and Estus at a bonfire.

On that note I really hope it's a return to the limit healing/spell uses of DS1. I thought the amount of consumables and rings in DS2 bordered on the ridiculous. There were so many different healing consumables and spell replenishing items made it so spell use numbers were pointless. It was from one extreme to another, where in DS1 you had Estus and could get about 3 or 4 Divine Blessings and Elizabeth Mushrooms per run to DS2 where you had 198 of almost everything by the start of NG+.

Interesting. There's a roar-like part in the trailer at 1:26-27, it's barely a few frames but it didn't look like it had anything to do with the shield.
