Dark Souls III |OT+2| Why Can't We Poise the Game?

I need some more help with The nameless King. When am I supposed to attack in his second phase? Almost all openings are too short to land an attack without being hit afterwards.
I have to admit, that I manage the dragon pretty good now, aside the normal bullshit tries, but the king itself leaves me a little bit clueless. I can dodge his attacks pretty reliably now, but I don't know how to attack without being hit myself. And dodging like a champ won't kill him.

I tried the bow "cheese" out of frustration already, but I think they fixed it. He always closes the distance as soon as I get away from him. Nothing like the videos I saw where he walks around chilling for minutes.

Thanks you all.

Explored more of Farron Keep Perimeter and picked up the Farron Coal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLnhwVsYSH1o1jW-5r-UfCbFz4VcQalzj5&v=V_rMiFQ0jsM

So, what's the deal with the
Dreamchaser's Ashes? As far as we can tell it means we can buy Titanite Shards now, which is actually really useful! Plus she asked us where we got them, and she didn't ask that with the Mortician's Ashes, which is weird.

Also picked up the Black Knight Greatsword after killing the Black Knight, which looks pretty sweet. Not sure why the illusory wall message was rated so highly and yet didn't lead to anything - that's the second time it's happened too!

Finally - fuck that crab. That's fucking bullshit they can hit you through solid walls.

I'm sorry fam, I couldn't help myself - last night and today I invaded a bunch of people using that cheesy Gotthard's + Bloodring build. OMG it's so hilariously bullshit; I felt bad but was cracking up at the same time. One guy got so fed up he just ran and jumped off a cliff.

But now I'm back to using my main build for the moment: a fast weapon like the Carthus Curved Sword, Rapier, or Dark Sword in the main hand, and Yhorm's Machete or Black Knight Greataxe in my offhand. I learned it from watching Bao's Twitch stream when he was using it in duels. It's really good because you mix up fast and slow attacks, and the hitstun from a greataxe lets you get two free hits in with your fast main hand weapon. I've been having a lot of success with it.

I used the Dragonslayer Greatshield and a Dark Sword. Fast weapons are almost a must. Buy Human Pine Resin from Patches because N.K. himself is weak to dark damage (his drake is weak to lightning). Never swing more than twice, even with a fast weapon. His openings are quite short, as you have noticed. Chip away with one or two swings at a time, roll out and put up your shield, and weather his attacks.

I don't remember if I shared this with GAF yet?

Dark Souls III x Final Fantasy VI :)

Those vids are great. It's been a while since I've seen a good cosplayer on PC.

What's your set up?
A PS4?

Seriously. After getting him to about 10% some times it's all the bullshit again. This is such a cheap boss. I know the people saying it was easy, great or whatever, but I don't care. I don't have fun anymore because this guy is trolling me way too hard.

Anyway. I'm currently a luck hollow bleed build with Onikiri and Ubadachi +10, level 96. I tried so many things and gear now, it does not matter. At one point he does something completely unexpected and kills me with two hits. I can dodge most of his attacks but some are so weird and random, nah, I don't think I will ever learn that.

That said, good night.

I did it. I fucking did it. Thank you all and sorry for all the salt. Helped me a lot getting over this one talking to someone about it.

Made it with 8 estus left lol. The 10 tries befor he got me with 90% Heath left. But the feeling is so good, that's souls, right? It's like you think you really accomplished something.

congrats :3 best feeling ever when you get pissed off at a boss then you beat the boss within an hour!

My god, tonight was probably the worst run of PvP I've ever had. SL120 invasions as Aldrich Faithful:

1st invasion: 3-man gank squad + giant seed
2nd invasion: 3-man gank squad + giant seed
3rd invasion: 2-man gank squad, host disconnects after his phantom is killed
4th invasion: 3-man gank squad + giant seed
5th invasion: 2-man gank squad + Darkmoon Blade summon
6th invasion: 2-man gank squad
7th invasion: 3-man gank squad + giant seed
8h invasion: the same 3-man gank squad I invaded last time
9th invasion: finally a lone host

Absolutely ridiculous. I really hope they do something about invasions being so rigged against the invader. I read that the algorithm actually favors invasions of multiple phantoms, which is why gank squads are so common. I don't even care about having 30% less HP and half the Estus - it's the gank squads that really rustle my jimmies.

i kept getting killed at the same point. i'm not long started the game. it's the area after the second bonfire at the high lothric wall where you jump down onto the roof top and one of the enemies turn into the huge thing that tutorial boss turns into. can't get past it. also not sure what i'm to do with that dragon. i can get past him no problem but there is no time to go out and gather all the dropped items.

Made me laugh way harder than it should have... probably because I'm sleep deprived.

Just run past that thing (Pus of Man) and go right, there's a ladder you can descend.

You can gather all of the items, though it will take all of your estus and you might need to make multiple attempts. I've done it before.

You can kill the mutants before they transform. Run to the guy and attack. It's only one or two hits.

For the dragon: I don't think you can gather all the loot without getting killed or at least badly hurt. You can banish him though. Get a bow, tons of arrows and shoot him from a safe place. Takes a while.
The stairs leading up work good I think.

Almost done with my NG+ run.
Currently at SL ~SL145. Melee build.
50 STR / 40 DEX.
Now putting stuff for Stamina.

Got bored of mt Heavy Dark Sword +10.
Ant good/fun STR/DEX (Quality?) PvE builds to try out? Got a ton of weapons... aaahhhh, the problem of choice. ^_^

i got past the Pus of Man. managed to hit it before it transformed. i have a bow and some arrows but i can't use it yet because my stats aren't high enough i think. i read there is a claymore up there so definitely want to get that.

the point i'm at now is just past the rooftop where the pus of man is. went down the ladders and cleared that area. there is another set of ladders across a wooden plank. i'll be going down there next.

you can spend all your souls and just run to the treasure, roll through the fire. It may help if you open the gate below the dragon first and run from there.

I also would prefer being invaded more often when solo and in turn not getting frustrated asswipe invaders every time. Yesterday in the evening was the first time my invader actually followed me out of the (PvE) danger zone, and then dueled without estus after some mutual bowing.

This should become more common as the dudebros move on when the next Call of Duty comes out.

So today I thought it would be a good idea to do something relaxing and tried to farm the Carthus great sword. Well, no. No drops at all. Only tons of titanite shards.

I go from the Carthus bonfire to the two dudes close to me and the one after, and then return to the Great Sword Guy near the bridge. Is there a better place to do this?

Damn on a lark I picked this back up today and thought I'd clean up some achievements. But I had forgotten that you need to rank up Mound Makers for a Pyromancy... That was a nightmare to farm even when the battlezone just beyond the Pontiff was active, but just now I can't get any summons at all.

Went from psyched to bummed on this game in about a five minute stretch.

Shackles go way faster if you invade IMO. Over at Pontiff you'll usually have some Aldrich backup, so taking out the host or some phantoms shouldn't be too bad.

Maybe, but I still need like sixteen shackles. Just don't have it in me.

Go to PvP area, and place sign for 1vs1 duels, most of the time you'll face people who will duel fairly.

You may get lucky and get into fight clubs, so depending of your conditions, you can just watch a couple of matches and get a shackle.

Much better than facing ganking on invasions.

I invade for fun, and maxed out of pale tongues a while ago:

So I switched my invader to a mad phantom just to start collecting shackles, lol. And it mixes things up a bit when you can target phantoms instead of the hosts, but it's weird because sometimes I invade a duo and killing the single phantom counts as a win, but at other times I need to kill the host too. o_O

I've been watching some Dark Souls 3 videos and thought I'd get back into invading after about a month off but for some reason my game runs around 10 fps worse in all areas. It's not unplayable (it's always over 30 fps) but I am sure it should not be running worse, especially considering much more demanding games run much better and no other game has had a shift in performance like DS3 has on my PC. Anyone have any idea as to what might have caused this drop in performance?

Anyway, regardless of all that I had an utterly shit time invading and might just shelve the game until the DLC comes out.

Edit: I restarted my PC and performance is back where it used to be... PC gaming, right guys?

Edit 2: Ok, invading is pretty fun as long as you're not using a split damage weapon. It's all coming back to me now...

I haven't actually played in a while, so those vids are a bit old (about 4 weeks ago I think) but I was out of town for a bit and haven't played much lately, so I just got around to uploading them. But these videos really amuse me because, well... you'll see.

Bit of background: back in May when I was just starting to really invade, I invaded this guy and his buddies in the Catacombs. I killed him several times but this gank video was just funny in how cowardly they played so I saved it:

Part 0: The Prelude

Now, fast-forward to late June and early July, I'm now invading late-game areas like Untended Graves, and guess who I run into?

Part 1: Hey it's that guy!

Poor guy, he's alone this time actually, and stands no chance. He must really hate me...

Anyway. A few invasions later, I run into this name... sounds vaguely familiar but, well, it could just be a common name.
Nope!

Part 2: Hey it's that trio again! -- Different host this time, but same players. They try to use a Seed of a Giant Tree despite outnumbering me.
It backfires beautifully.

And then a bit later... yep you guessed it, same trio:

Part 3: They used a Seed again. They never learn.

I admit, I laughed my ass off and I don't feel bad for taunting them repeatedly (especially since this character, well, is an assassin who gives zero fucks, so I gotta stay in character, ya know :p). I'd feel sorry for them if they played with just a bit more balls*, but just hiding forever at the start and doing nothing? Using a Seed a second time when it clearly backfired on them? Well, I don't know about them, but at least I sure was having fun... xD

* Or ovaries, of course. Gender equality!

Is amazing how I keep coning back to the gane, there's something very addicting about the PvP on this game and souls in general.

The problem I have is that pkaying with meta weapons and playing safe and methodical is boring, efective, but boring. Gonna try a new build.

The Morning Star is an incredibly fun weapon with its weapon art Perseverance and the way you get easily proc bleed in this game. Try it sometime.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Where am I supposed to go after beating that big ass tree?

I die a little inside when I see this. That miracle would work a lot better if your chance of survival was percentage based. The higher your FTH, the more likely you are to survive.

I use the morning star with all my characters every time I go through the Catacombs. It's a tradition since King's Field but the weapon is really good.
The funny thing is that Morning Star is more effective with a dex build than a str build in this game.

That sounds good...but I also take into account the cool looking factor of the weapon, and well I don't like it very much lol.

I was thinking of a demon fists build, mixed with some pyromancies. It has the potential to suck a lot, but also to be a lot of fun lol.

I was using a similar build on my SL120.

Demon's Greataxe and Demon's Fist. 40STR, 25Int, 25FTH. Damage was good, though for Pyromancies I only used Black Serpent. Weapon art on the axe was nice for ganks, while WA on the fist looks good as a finisher during duels.

In terms of Fashion it was great. Smouldering Axe on your right, flaming fist on your left.

After that horrible Saturday night of Aldrich Faithful invasions, last night was the complete opposite. Several invasions where the host was killed right after I connected, giving me free dregs. Two memorable invasions with friendly hosts and other dark spirits, where we messed around and had fun, including hosting a 4-way fist fight, prism stone spam, and cheering on the host as he attempted to parry the Silver Knights on the way to Anor Londo. One host just repeatedly ran into the Silver Knights' arrows, sending him flying, until one knocked him off the roof to his death. One guy lured me down to the water reserve area and then used a giant seed, so I ran toward the beasts, lured them toward the host, and then knocked him off the ladder when he tried to escape. Sadly the final two invasions of the night were against a hacker and a gank squad, but still the bulk of them were great.

Lol. Yep, many of them did.

Tonight was great.
1) got the Carthus GS. Yesterday I forgot to equip the Mimic hat. 3 tries later I had two Carthus curved swords, a Carthus shield and the GS.
2) upgraded it to +10
3) went for
Champion Gundyr
. Very cool fight and fun to figure out the parry timings. The area after that was cool af, too!

I'm sad I'll have to end my first playthrough now. But I have plenty of fucked up quests left for the next one. I will farm some souls befor though,
the endlessly summoned knight at archdragons peak is too good.

Dude, let me give a pro tip on soul farming. Go to Grand Archives and go up the elevator at the bonfire with your best item and soul stuff on. Proceed through the large doorway and turn left and go toward the 3 winged Knights on the rooftops. Thank me later when you're getting a 100k souls per run in 2 minutes.

Once you learn them they're a breeze. I use a Lothric Knight Sword with its high criticals and a Hornet Ring along with a magic weapon buff. It melts them.

First prototype was a failure, lol, forgot how bad it's flynn's ring, not worth the ring slot and equip load necessary. The main problem though is hit something with demon's fist, with that shitstatic range, yeah that 5-combo is deadly but good luck dealing the first hit . lol

I think I can improve it, otherwise it will make for a great PvE build, the fists hits like a truck.

Took down the Abyss Watchers with a little help from a friendly cartoon character: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLnhwVsYSH1o1jW-5r-UfCbFz4VcQalzj5&v=u_2WRpm_nbU

Finally,
an add battle that isn't stacked against you from the start.

I'm not sure what the deal with them attacking each other was - are the red eyed Abyss Watchers blind and think that their friends are enemies? Every other red-eyed enemy hasn't behaved in the same way so far.

The Abyss Watchers didn't seem like they were guarding the Catacombs of Carthus, and the Old Wolf of Farron is outside the arena, so the idea of the Abyss Watchers being locked into an arena in Farron Keep to do battle for all eternity is kinda depressing really.

Cool boss fight though!
