I just cleared my first playthrough a few days ago. Firstly, savour the experience. Go in blind, try not to look anything up and just have fun.

You don't have have to parry everything. Dodging is perfectly viable, outside of perhaps a few fights where parrying is the best choice. Throwables are extremely useful during the more challenging boss fights too, so save those/stock up for when you need them.

Also, it is possible to re-spec, but the items you need to alter the scaling on your handles are limited so be mindful if you decide to change things up at some point throughout your playthrough.

You're in for a treat. I was a Lies of P denier until I decided to give it a second chance and it pulled me in hard. The dlc is coming too, so you're starting your first run just in time.

So far so good. Not even sure how to parry yet. I'm assuming same as Dark souls. But could be wrong.

Also, I'm playing totally blind and not knowledgeable on anything of it. Just heard so many souls lovers touting its name is all

Just go with the flow. The game has similar mechanics to Dark Souls and Bloodborne but overall is its own beast entirely. It's not as hard or as punishing as Bloodborne, but there's great challenge for sure.

Amazing game, easily the best non-Fromsoft soulslike with a very fresh and unique setting.

I'm excited 😊

- Don't just parry or dodge, a mix of both will do you wonders in this game. Being good at parrying will be very rewarding, though.

- Heavy attacks are also much, much more important than other soulslikes, since that's your main way of staggering enemies and getting them open for further punishment. A weapon with a good "R2 attack" can be game changing.

Enjoy the ride, it's my favorite soulslike and IMO on par with a lot of fromsoft titles.

Parrying works much better I think - much easier to hit the window. More essential as well, because dodging is less effective.

I don't know about that, as I got probably 1/2 way through bloodborne before quitting (not necessarily because of difficulty), but with Lies or P I could NOT beat the archbishop without modding the game to lower the difficulty.

Get the double dodge as soon as possible.
There's no standard parry save for some skills, it's just blocking in time. It helps to stagger your enemy faster. Now erGO!

You can base your playstyle with a preference on dodging or deflecting, however you're more comfortable with. Also learn how the weapon assembly works.

And about the arm, I didn't feel the need to use it not once lol

Dragon Glaive has good damage and range for early game. Puppets are weak to electric and humanoids are weak to fire. Shield Arm LV. 2 and Puppet String LV. 3 are the most versatile arms. The weapons that scale with Advance will peak mid-game. Give the apple to the songstress in the opera house before facing the boss.

Well its all about parry and the heavy attack ... but if you're a veteran souls player this game should be fairly easy in the scale.

Its a good souls game with some nice new mechanics.

Prioritise parry. The trick is you have to hold it pressed during enemy hitbox as opposed to just tapping it on attack like in Sekiro, which a lot of people can't seem to get their heads around and complain.
Also, boss weapons are cool but some weapon handle/blade combinations are truly overpowered, fun to figure those out yourself - use the combat practice garden in Krat.

First half easy, second half of the game is a bit hard.

I found dodging useless.

Stamina upgrade is the only upgrade worth it for a very long time.

I recommend at least trying the booster glaive (weapon you find in the 2nd or 3rd level iirc). It was the best for me.

It's best enjoyed as a more chill Sekiro, where you parry everything with perfectly timed blocks. If your parry timing is a bit off and you end up just blocking, you take a bit of chip damage which you can heal back by attacking like in bloodborne so missing the timing really isn't that bad while you're learning.

There's so many good weapons and weapon combinations so experiment often. There are different damage types that are situationally good, so instead of having one weapon you should have a few different ones you are upgrading and switch between them depending on the enemy you are fighting

Yeah I tried playing it like Sekiro (with a bit of dodging) and got wrecked so I dropped it. Then someone told me that I had to hold the parry button down while getting hit and after picking it up again it became a lot more fun for me.
