Co-writer of Half-Baked and the Chapelle Show. Why they got into a conflict is pretty obvious -- Brennan liked all the new stuff they'd written, thought that the series was going fine, and was no doubt looking forward to a big payday. Then Chapelle flips out and bails on the project entirely.

And to be fair, perhaps the reason he doesn't want to work with Chapelle is because Chapelle is on his way to being blacklisted. If a partner is both unreliable and has a bad reputation, then you have to drop him, even if he's a friend. He seems pretty intent on emphasizing that he was not "in breach of contract" and wants to wash his hands of the matter.

M: Will you work with him again?
NB: No. There's no chance.

Wow, people, way to completely twist the guy's words from "I couldn't care less" to "DON'T ****ING WATCH THE SHOW MOTHER****A OR I'LL ****ING DROP YA!!!" Give me a break.:lol

Dave's ship has sailed...far far away.

Does anyone care anymore?

I think people care about what Dave has done, but I don't think anybody cares about what he's doing right now. Fans of the show probably feel a little angry at the whole disappearing act.

I don't know what to think. By all accounts, comedy central didn't push Dave over the edge. If Dave perceived something in a particular light, then he should have discussed it with the executives. I don't know if I am totally buying into Dave's responsibility in comedy thing anyway...a lot of what he does is pretty insensitive regardless of how he chooses to defend it.

In the end, the real losers here are the viewers-- you and me-- because CC thinks Carlos Mencia is somehow a suitable replacement.

Carlos Mencia is not a suitable replacement.

Carlos Menica blows. The Worst kind of mix of Dave and George Lopez. Horrible

QFT. Everytime a friend of mine makes a racist joke about Latinos or goes "durr durr durrhn" I wanna place a loaded revolver in my mouth and pull the trigger >:/

I'll take "SLAP!" for 200, Dave.

CC lost pretty big on this. It would have catupulted CC to another level, that's for sure.
That's why it's Carlos now.
I recall reading that CC wasn't terribly affected when season 3 originally failed to air because of the weird way they sell advertising without association to specific shows. Also, didn't I unfortunately read that Mind of Mencia was actually getting huge ratings?

Large mexican demographic, only way i can explain it
and 14 year old white boys who love racial humor, regardless of quality

So what happens to someone who gets blacklisted?

is it something like back in the 60s when people with commie ideas are fired from the jobs etc?

SolidSnakex said:
Pretty much. He seems to be finished with CC for the most part. I was watching some recent clips of his standup and he again said the reason he walked away from the show was due CC wanting to tell Dave what he should and shoudln't show. It sounds like that once CC gave him the money they wanted to control every move he made, including basically scripting what happened on the show instead of letting Dave and his team do it.

Well, everyone else in Dave's ex-camp is saying it is a different story, including Charlie Murphy. They were writing and a White guy in the room laughed a 'little too hard' at one of the racial jokes and Dave got freaked out and from that day forward Dave just disappeared. That is the story his writing partner told in Maxim this month. So for him to be telling the story that CC is responsible is bullshit. Especially in the Time Magazine interview when he was in South Africa and in other interviews Dave said that CC had nothing to do with his decision. If CC was ****ing everything up, why is everyone except Dave helping put out season 3? Doesn't make sense at all.

Lastly, Dave was threatening from a weak position. You are going to threaten CC not to do anything with them when YOU are the one that walked away with no explanation? YOU are the one who is in breach of contract, but you are going to threaten them? Dave needs some new advisors.

They just don't get hired, I imagine. Realistically, Chappelle will still get enough work to make a living, but I doubt he'll be offered any more sweet development deals.

Neil Brenan was the white dude in the "I Know Black People" sketch?

Yeah. Definitely nothing like what he was offered by CC. He's still reputable as a stand up comedian and he'll do fine there if he continues on that road. But I think for the most part, he's done in television.

40s and early 50s.

No, that wasn't Neil. The guy on that sketch was also a writer for the Chris Rock Show though.

M: How's your relationship with Comedy Central?
NB: Originally, they thought "the mad Real World" was a collection of unfunny scenes. So after that killed with the audience, the executives said, "We have no idea what we're talking abou, " and left us alone completely. That was the beauty of doing a small show on CC-they'd leave you alone.

Note the backdoor he leaves himself in his answer.

The most memmorable part he played was in the Black-White Supremesist, he is the guy who's head explodes.

Chappelle will end up on HBO/Showtime and i do not believe it will be anywhere near as good without neil. I'm not a huge fan of Dave's stand up, it seems pretty simple/easy. Black this, White that. I think neil is the one that sort of rounds out the writing.

I think Dave just freaked out once he realized he sold out when he saw that guy laugh in the way he did. The world sort of crashed down on him and he had an epiphany (atleast thats my impression.)

From what charlie murphy says in his standup back in january, him and chappelle are still good friends and backs him up 100%. Always good to hear.
That's pretty cool, I was just about to ask.
This reminds me, did anyone see Inside the Actor's Studio with Chapelle? It was pretty good and gave a little more insight on why he left. It was on torrenspy a while ago, don't know about now.

I think this entire situation is still way too vague. Which means it's most likely solely the fault of Dave Chappelle that there isn't a third season of Chappelle's Show.

Honestly, I think he just got tired of doing the ****ing show, and quit. All this other stuff, like the race issue and everything, is bullshit. I think if Chappelle really wanted to do the show, then it would still be on TV right now, and if race was really an issue, it would be toned down.

But honestly, that's just my opinion. This situation is still way too vague to really pass judgement on what really happened.

Yeah, I agree with Bloodwake. Attributing Dave's entire "blowup" to some guy laughing at his jokes too hard seems odd. That might've been the straw that broke the camel's back, but there must've been something brewing there for quite some time. Most likely, Dave just couldn't handle the pressure. Fair enough, I love his standup anyway.

id rather see dave stand up anyway. show was pretty funny but ppl are acting like this is THE END when he was doing all kinds of shit before comedy central. dosent look he is going to sotp anytime soon. i'm sure show business is ridiculously vicious like he was saying inthe anderson cooper interview. i think it takes a lot to walk away from that kind of money in exchange for happiness.

i mean, look at all the stars out there that just get raped in the tabloids to no end becuase they keep putting themselves out there? all these stars that I assume are pushed into shitty roles they dont even want to do. thats really got to be unbelievably stressful anyway. i guess im under the mindset of when you have enough money to live very comfortably, there is no reason to comprimise your happiness for anymore.

They only care about the Dave of yesterday.
Today's Dave seems pretty humorless and somewhat...broken.

not really sure about that -- saw him do his stand-up show a few months ago in a relatively small-venue, and he was just as funny as ever. despite being serious at times, he had everyone laughing at the right times and was definitely on top of his game.

Agreed. If the race thing really bugged him, doesn't it not speak well about his talent when he couldn't excise the racial content from his own show. If the racial content bugged him so much, and he couldn't replace it with anything else, that's basically admitting he's a one trick pony.

Chappelle is a total dick. Plain and simple. He didn't think of all the people he hurt with his actions, personally and in reality financially. A lot of production people lost some work, i'm sure.

**** Dave Chappelle. **** yo' couch, nigguh.

Carlos Mencia is offensive to Latinos everywhere. Why?Latinos don't want anybody to know that he is infact hispanic. He sucks so bad. White people will think that all latinos are lame.
