Real surprised Joey left to be honest. This album can't come sooner, though I didn't heaps dig TCV, so am hoping that's not a sign of things to come compared to the QOTSA and Kyuss classics.

Ranking just 'cause:
Rated R
QOTSA
Era Vulgaris
Songs for the Deaf
Lullabies to Paralyse

Nice.
Oh, and Dave Grohl is a lot of things, an overrated drummer is NOT one of them.
End of story, no argument.

You'll always have people saying one of the best at anything is overrated. I'm sure people who say grohl is overrated would cite some unknown drummer from a band you've never heard of as being vastly superior. Ain't cool to like a sell out like Dave!

I'm alright with this news. I've been listening to a lot of Kyuss/early QotSA lately.

edit: QotSA played Oneida Casino like 5 or 6 years ago. It was great; there was no opener and they played most of the self-titled. I saw them at the Rave around Era Vulgaris and it was kind of boring.

FUCK YES!!! Songs for the Deaf is Queens best album in large part due to Dave. Every one of the albums he has drummed on is better than any other album he has been involved with but not been the drummer. Fact. First two Foo albums, Nirvana albums, Songs, Probot are all better than all of the other Foo albums.

era vulgaris was good, but not good for a queens album. it was very uneven. there were some really good songs on there but some duds too. hopefully dave will reenergize the band!

'Run, Pig, Run' was probably my favorite from that album (unless we include the bonus version of 'The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died')

I love that line at the start:

"My generation's for sale,
It's a steady job,
How much have you got?"

A number of things. Tweaking some things for the HTDA full LP (coming in Spring), helping Josh out on a new QOTSA track, working with Roy, starting rehearsals for two bands.

HHHNNNNGGGGGG!!! I loved the track "Era Vulgaris" and was shit surprised when it was not in the final album.

I couldn't believe it when I heard this news. QOTSA is among my favorite bands, I pretty much love all their songs and listen to them almost on a daily basis for several years now. It's just so damn perfect. I also like Them Crooked Vultures, but it isn't the same.

Then again, with Nick and Mark Lanegan not returning, they will have less vocal variety, which was one of the reasons why Songs For the Deaf and Rated R were so good (at least, to me). Some songs aren't right for Josh.

Nice. My ranking...

Self-titled
SFTD
Rated R
Era Vulgaris
Lullabies to Paralyze

Granted, I revisited EV recently and haven't listened to Lullabies in quite awhile so the bottom two could switch. Self-titled was my favorite album, period, for years and it's still among the top three.

I'm excited for the new album in the sense that I know it will be a departure from the other albums just like every previous album has been. Part of me wishes Josh would return to the gritty, deserty sound of Kyuss / S/T and an even bigger part is skeptical that he can produce anything to match the first three albums' creative output again. Regardless, QOTSA will always have a special place in my heart, especially now that I've framed and hung this beauty on my wall...

Is there a version of Era Vulgaris that has both Era Vulgaris and The Fun Machine?

Edit: That there is. Japan wins again, also includes Running Joke. And only $84 for a new copy? What a deal!
