David Jaffe announces his GOTY 2024!

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Isn't this the type of cinematic movie game Jaffe hated 2 years ago? Beyond the hypocrisy, I don't care about his opinions.

Eh, the only thing cinematic is that it has long, high production, cut-scenes. The game-play itself is more immersive-sim leaning than what we traditionally consider a 'cinematic action game'.

There needs to be a term, when you make the most ludicrous claims like Indy is up there with Elden Ring that should be called a jaffe.

"The current thing is the best ever. Wow, I'm so excited to enjoy it! Haha just jaffing, guys."

Sure, let’s forgot about Astrobot which won game of the year, FF7 rebirth which was a goty nominee and Helldrivers 2.

I played Indy and I think it’s an ok game but if you’re an Indy fan I can see why you would be excited. But calling it one of the best games of all time is crazy.

Dude, he tweeted that Indy was close to being one of his all time favorite games. He also tweeted that Sony should be worried about the games Xbox is releasing next year.

I think Indy is just an ok game and I also don't think Xbox is releasing anything better than Ghost of yotei or Death stranded 2 next year.

We are all entitled to having different opinions...

You've almost got it.

Almost got what? He is saying he thinks Jaffe's take is crazy while acknowledging difference of opinions as well. That is perfectly reasonable.

This would be appropriate if he were praising something like Forspoken.

The year Elden Ring released, a lot of sites gave GOTY to another game. Should we invent a term for them all??

You don't seem to understand how opinions work my man @MatrixReloaded101 is "entitled" to his own opinion on Jaffe's take.

Eh.

Picking apart someone else's personal opinion and labeling it as crazy but then using the 'but we're all entitled to our opinions' when trying to get someone else to empathize with your opinion instead is pretty mid as bender would put it.

Again, it is perfectly reasonable to vehemently disagree with someone else's opinion while acknowledging they are entitled to it. I don't see how you can have a problem with that.

But what are you talking about "trying to get someone else to empathize with your opinion instead". Where is that coming from?

If somebody called Concord the best game of all time you'd laugh and call them crazy too but that person is allowed to have an opinion nonetheless.

8/10 game but there wasnt 9/10 this year so he may be right
Are we talking metacritic scores here or your opinion of games?
If the former there were plenty this (now last) year:

Fair enough.

This is Jaffe's personal list, everyone can put the amount of stock into it that they want.

he lost a lot of subs with his white knighting over Dragon Age. he thinks he is playing 4D chess to gain an audience but he is just annoying.

Is this true? Did he really lose a lot of subs for that reason? I kinda hope it's not true...... But if it is, it explains alot.

Isn't it an extremely WEAK immersive sim? The AI and stealth seems to be pretty mid. Most people that love the game only put up with the gameplay.

No. Like any good immersive sim, there's always more than one approach to tackle missions/objectives, aside from certain set-piece scenarios here and there.

It's not as complex as a Dishonored or Prey, owing to not having supernatural or mutant powers, so it's 'simpler' on paper.

But its actually not that surprising that creating a functioning 1st party portfolio would take 10 years.

Should not have taken anywhere near that long, should not have required him to buy out massive publishers to do so either.

Shit, when Sony had issues in the PS3 Era they turned around their studios REAL quick.

With the release of hellblade 2 and now indy, and xbox fans around the world - and by world i mean U.S and maybe brazil proclaiming these games to be amazing, does that mean 'movie' games are OK again?

Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has nothing in common, one is a shallow walk and do nothing 4 hours "game", and one is kinda like Dishonored with 3 big maps to explore and find secrets, side missions and upgrade your character, the gameplay itself also is far from interactive movie game.. you have some platforming.. combat, puzzles etc, did you even played the game?

Couldn’t you have just left this warz shit back in 2024?

It’s so sad that this game got caught up in console war even when it’s a known multiplat with just a short timed exclusivity.

I wonder when publishers are going to realize it’s not worth it. So much extra negativity just for a minimal chance of getting someone to invest in a platform they don’t have or prefer.

Absolutely not. Its not a cinematic 'walker' game like Hellblade 2.

No gameplay to speak of, just cutscenes.

Thats not Indy

Finally Phil's next year is Xbox year meme will finally be true. Only took 10 years.

I love how dunking on Xbox is always cool, but what games did Playstation release?

Or whats coming this year? Or next year?

The only interesting exclusive on PS5 is Demon's Souls for me, I already own it. Maybe Rise of Ronin but its not a Sony published game.

Havent seen a great interesting new Sony exclusive in years tbh.

Indiana Jones absolutely is "cinematic". It has a story that rivals the movies and has extremely high production values. That's "cinematic".
