is the dr still worth watching once he regenerated into someone who looks like a pompous asshole?

Matt Smith is my favorite NuDoctor. Despite some daftness in his storylines his performance is well worth the watch as are his companions.

I liked David Tennant but near the end of his run I was getting tired of him. And to be honest, I much prefer him in other roles like Broadchurch and Good Omens.

Smith is good at about the 25% to 60% of his run. After that it's the writing that messes everything up and Missy is a way better character.

I rewatched Smith's run recently and whilst he suffers the same amount of dodgy episodes that plague every Doctor, personally I really like what he managed to do. His run also has Karen Gillan looking hot AF and having a good comic double act with him, which helps

Capaldi too was a decent Doctor but it took longer for him to find his feet and he suffered more bad episodes overall - Heaven Sent / Hell Bent is perhaps my favourite two parter in the entire run

Whittaker is an ok actress but fuck me she's grating in Who and the new showrunner also really messed up

As for Tennant, he's always very watchable but his schtick felt just felt on the verge of being annoying at the end of his Who run.

For those who haven't and want more Tennant, I can't recommend seeking out Blackpool and Casanova enough. Maybe Jessica Jones S1 and Broadchurch UK S1 too.

watched 2 episodes last night, he took a bit of getting used to but not too bad overall, the redheaded scottish girl definitely helps

The moment you realise thousands of children had stopped hiding behind the sofa watching Who and probably were having 'awakenings' over you

Really enjoyed Smith. He took some time for me to like him but he's a solid Doctor. Capaldi's run is rough but that has nothing to do with the actor. The writing was terrible. There are a number of points where Capaldi's acting skills really shine and he truly shows how incredible his doctor could have been...but its few and far between. I never watch the last season with him. I watch a few episodes with Whittaker and there is nothing of value there. She isn't doing her own doctor, its a version of Smith and Tenant 's.

Agreed. I got really annoyed with Tennant's superboy nature after awhile. Not a fault of the actor, but the plots. Great in Good Omens.

The Smith/Rory/Amy trio was vastly better than the Tennant stuff.

That's the thing I really dislike in the NuSeries. They treat the Doctor like some Space Jesus who's out to save the universe. He's not supposed to be that. He's a clever alien who uses his smarts and incredible luck to win the day.

Matt Smith is simply the best Doctor. The only actor to really capture an ancient time traveller in the body of a young man.

Fuck the BBC forever for what they’ve done to the show. It basically died for me three years ago.

Also, Karen Gillan in a goddess in human form, and probably the main reason my partner is a tall red head 😂

Best era! Moffat went all in on the mind fuckery and crazy plots and Matt Smith knocks it out the park. Considering the next era is where things get dumb down and leads to some of the more boring seasons.

Coming out of Tennant, who’s my favourite, into Smith, I didn’t like the first episode. The “Custard and fish fingers” thing made me think he was trying too hard to be silly and I wasn’t going to enjoy it.

Fast forward to the end of Smith and he’s nearly as good as Tennant.

The Capaldi and what’s-his-face were great too in their own ways, Capaldi being more stand out. Haven’t watched what’s-her-name because it never touched Netflix, but I heard I didn’t miss out so I’m not going to chase it.

Don’t try and change 50 years of canon, develop new and interesting long game stories.

it is, just understand Smith is an entirely different doctor, and he doesnt get good for a few seasons (in fact JUST when i started to feel he was getting "great", he regenerates!).

Anyway, yes, I feel the series is worth watching up until the very last Christmas special (twice upon a time) because there are lots of amazing episodes.

I really do feel like Twice Upon a time is a great “final doctor” episode as it feels very full circle (of the whole series).
