DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

My co-workers ask why I keep my dominant hand in a hand warmer filled with jelly all day. I just say "J-Rock".

I'm almost committed to playing this for an extended time, so I'm wondering where I get started? I'm going to pull the trigger on the Arma 2 set for 20 right now and the grab the mod off of steam, but after that what's my next resource I'll need?

I'm only asking because the OP hasn't been updated since the original post date so I'm not sure if a lot of that info is useful anymore or not or if there are better sites and stuff out there to pilfer through.

Download Dayz Commander thatll keep you updated with all things dayz such as new maps and "modes". If you wanna get into huge pile of Arma2 mods PlaywithSix makes getting mods pretty easy. PlaywithSix can be kinda confusing at first but if you need help then stop by the mumble. Im sure someone will walk you through the set up

I haven't played Arma 3 yet, but it sounds like it will be hard to go back to Arma 2 after using the new infantry/movement system.

Question: Wasteland was ported (albeit with bugs) to Arma 3 within a day. Is there any reason why the same couldn't be done with DayZ? Other than the DayZ team not wanting it to.

Seriously thinking about it but I want to get my hands on the Lite version before I drop the cash on it. I want to see how it runs on my computer. The Shack-Tac guys say it's about the same but I want to try it for myself.

Yea me and my friend were both commending that it would suck to go back to 2 to play the standalone after playing 3 for a while. I don't know why he can't port it to 3 but it will be a tougher sale in the old engine even if its modified.

Could it? Yes I believe it should be pretty easy. Will it be during the alpha? Most likely not. The amount of content to work with in the alpha is pretty skimpy. Plus im sure there will be lots of updates and that would make keeping the mod updated that much harder.

I'm not so sure it would be as easy as Wasteland. Keep in mind Wasteland isn't persistent.
 
For those that use Play withSix, can anyone tell me how the score column for each player is calculated (you get the information when you look up a servers info, such as players on the server, mods, ip, etc)? Is it number of Zombie kills or is it something else?
 
I really hope they do something about player spawns. I hate spawning on the beach. I'd rather spawn in a random area kinda like Rick from The Walking Dead does in the first season. By himself, in a hospital, out of a coma.
 
The change of Chernarus, like the town they were in, is very pleasing and lowers my worry about it being in Chernarus again.
That makes me very very happy as this was one of my biggest complaints about SA.


BUT I REALLY do wish they can just copy and paste the animations and player movement from arma 3, is so much smoother and better in every single way. Makes playing the game a lot better of an experience.
Also I hope doors are like arma 3, as in they are not an obstacle!

Overall, pretty good video. I really do like "in game" gameplay videos, give a much better idea of what the game will be like.
 
As awkward as that video may have been at times, lot of good stuff in that DevBlog. Loved the trees and he said he was checking out Arma 3 grass. Player models look good in action.Helmets in Orange are probably equipment that I wouldn't wear.

Nice to see arachni and quantuml on it, now I have to grill them on steam xD
 
Standalone looks like it's coming along nicely, but I'm not a fan of the new color scheme. Looks kinda dark and boring. I prefered the old colorfull look

Thats because the sun is low (look at the shadows). they redid most of the lighting because of the dynamic sky system from take on helicopters, which they used as a source for the dayz standalone engine branch.
 
Question- How would the DayZ regulars feel if there were a console version of this game?
Fine. Some people would cry (some already do, just at the mention) but as long as PC remains the lead platform - and it will - why not? Many people claim that the Arma control scheme would prevent it, but I don't think that will be an issue for the standalone.

Rocket stated (grain, salt) that it would be viable after two million PC sales.

Played some of the Breaking point mod just a bit ago. Gotta say I like it. Hopefully this gets added on DayZ commander soon and more servers start using it.
 
Don't know if it was talked about in here but Dayz Origins is pretty neat. There are levels for both Bandits and Heroesbased on Humanity, and when you have the appropriate level you can build a house and a garage. There are vehicles all around the maps but they need to be repaired to work. I'm playing it for a few days and I have to say it made DayZ fun for me again.
 
Origins is cool and since it got a huge update it really adds a lot to the game. I dont like that buildings take so damn long to set up or you really need a team to get something like that running.
