I wonder how they plan on playing it, though. Does Stein realize he caused it by telling his younger self to love his wife more or does he think it's because of Barry?

Oh, I know it's from Stein. They setup the cause-and-effect on Legends well enough for the viewer.
But do the characters on the show realize that? How quickly they ran from "You keep fucking up everything with time travel Barry!" to "I have a daughter now and that's great" made me feel uncertain if they knew themselves.
Once Stein realizes that he got his daughter from his intervention in the 80s, it could help reframe timetraveling for the Flash.
This is the type of episode where the top brass of the three shows really work together, so no 2 without 3 I suspect.
