Making it short and in english
+Its a good fighting game that is accessible and can be addictive
+Visuals are outstanding.
+Story mode that works as a tutorial and its kinda like MK9.
-Game plays the same
-Brings nothing new to the table.
-Lacks game modes.

Good enough for me. Going to pick up my copy...soon hopefully.

Aren't these two pretty much the same? I mean...it's like they repeated themselves just so they could have an additional negative.

Aaaand that's a negative why?
I think he is wrong since they didnt talk about changes. He does mention power blows but he left out the things like more guaranteed damage, sidestep, critical burst and other things that make the game completely different. Then again casual gaming sites you can give them DOA2-4 and probably call them equal in gameplay without noticing the changes between them.

Also: Power blows? Danger Zones? Saying the game brings nothing new to the table is a lie. Period.

Yeah...

As someone else said, "adding new things to the game" would get the fanbase's jimmies rustled. Especially with a fighting game, the system needs to remain wholly unchanged, with only improvements to the already established system.

To be honest there are MANY "best looking fighting games" this gen, depending on their particular bent. Most of the games aren't competing directly with one another for art direction and overall style.

SC V has incredible textures, image quality, and great art direction for armor and background detail.

DoA5 looks to have great animation, character modeling, active backgrounds, smooth lighting and shadowing.

Tekken Tag 2 has super high poly models compared to most, really solid backgrounds, really rich, popping colors for a 3D fighting game that doesn't invoke a cartoon style.

Mortal Kombat has that chunky, modeled look down cold which gives it a unique look among every fighter this gen, with extremely good backgrounds for atmospheric effects and dense artistic detail.

MVC3 has the comic book/manga look well in hand.

SFIV and SFxT piss some people off because they're so colorful, but they've got extremely detailed animations with the most articulated characters, and a unique colored marker art style with very creative and explosive stage animations.

Hell, even VF5:FS with its weak texture quality, beats almost every other game in terms of sharp IQ plus its quality and detail of realistic style animation.

Basically, this is a great generation for fighting games that use some form of 3D graphics.

Well, I think you can totally mix-up the system. The core mechanics are what must stay the same (for instance DOA 6 couldn't be an FPS), but you should always mess with the stuff on top or else you're just releasing an aesthetic variant of an old game.

But as we agree they did that. Then again, Gsme Reactor, Eurogamer Spain; no offense, but these aren't exactly major outlets people expect too much from.

The game definitely keeps it's fast pace. No need to worry about that. Several onlookers at the arcade were commenting how quickly the gamed played.

I don't know if I'm gonna be flamed for this, but I might say Mortal Kombat is one of the best looking fighters this generation. I always thought it was really slick the way the story stuff went seamlessly into the fight during story mode. Plus I really think it's cool the way the losing fighter just gets up in between rounds, and it doesn't cut away.

No reason to get flamed. I loathe MK's art style, so while I can admit the character models and background are objectively great, subjectively I hate looking at it. :p

All very true.

I don't think there's ever been a year like this for 3D fighters. We got a new entry in all of the big franchises.

I dont know if its properly written since google translator is crappy but the review mentions its not as smooth as the predecesors if that is the proper translation. Also mentions jerky and not entirely composed.

I don't agree with the review since I played alpha version and seen some of the tournaments and things look as smooth as DOA4. Don't really know where is he getting that from.

So have said most of the people I have seen with the game.

Frame data is still the same though, it's just visually you're seeing more animation.

"It's more smooth and just as fast. They added more frames in the animations. Hence why some people feel it's slower."

They added more frames in the animations? Is there a comparison somewhere? Not sure I understand what you mean.

I should say they're more animated.

Lol my issues with MK is ugly ladies (Kitana and Sonya looks weird as hell depending the pose) and some anatomical issues. Otherwise its alright for most of the part.

TTT2 has high-poly models? It looks like ass in screenshots and video. Like really colorful and all the cool effects or whatever, but jaggy. Aren't they still using the character models from Tekken 5?

Well if it's an art style thing, then yeah MK is not up there...if we're speaking on art, I'd probably say Persona 4 Arena because I love that series ^_^ I was speaking from more a technical point of view when it came to MK, because that game does some awesome stuff, and runs great.

However, one of the reasons I am looking forward to DOA5, is it does look fantastic visually also. I loved how improved the character models look over the last several games. The girls actually look like they have some life to them, and don't look like creepy dolls anymore, lol.

Not at all. The game is subhd, though, which is why it is jaggy.

Game is still super nice looking. Has the best lighting in a fighter, I think. Good lighting goes a long way in graphics.

TTT2 isn't even using the same models from Tekken 6 surprisingly. You can tell in the intros that they're quite improved.

Ah, okay. I can see that. It's really colorful and lighting does help with that. VF5:FS is like that too, but I think the lighting there might be a bit much.

The models in certain angles look really high quality, at least the character intros. The game lacks AA big time.

its kinda funny that this game seems like biggest leap since DOA1 -> DOA2, in terms of both visual and gameplay systems, and yet reviewers bashing the game for being the same.

It's over 300 pages long. . .
336 pages to be exact.

• Full move lists, combos, Frame Data and strategy for each character
• Breakdown of the Triangle system; where strikes beat throws, throws beat holds, and holds beat strikes
• Details on all power blows, the new move type introduced in Dead or Alive 5
• Stages are broken down in detail, explaining the dangers of each one and how to take advantage of the terrain

Totally worth to get.

should be getting my copy on wedneday right after classes end for the week. I'm happy to see that the poster features the cast instead of just Kasumi so I can actually put it up on my wall.

Jeff Gerstmann seems really excited to do a quick look of the story mode. Makes it sound totally absurd.

I'm down.
