I don't get people's issue with this. It's not like it's in-app purchases, and no-one is forced to buy all/any of it. Supply and demand works, personal responsibility not as often...
5 Season Passes actually.
The first isn't numbered like the others but was available at launch (Features all DLC costumes from DOA5 Ultimate last gen that did not carry over)
Yup, and superfluous stuff that nobody needs has gotten me a game with continous support, stages, characters, and patches (on consoles).
Please, Tecmo, keep milking those people that love buying costumes so I can get cool shit like Mai in a 3D fighter.

Tecmo Koei means there's a 0.00001% chance there'll be Attack on Titan DLC for the Berserk Musou. If only enemies that big weren't guaranteed to be janky without significant effort, that would be a dream mashup.

So if I want to play this I could either get Dead or Alive 5 Core Fighters for free then buy the DLC, OR I can get Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (currently on sale for $16) and get most of the game too? What would not be included? Just some costumes and stages?

There's exceedingly little SP exclusive content. Like 3-4 costumes out of the hundreds available. Let alone characters or stages.
Spend the $16. The core fighters pack is literally just a husk where you are then expected to buy stuff piecemeal. The $16 gets you all the basic fighters, the story mode, hundreds of unlock able putfits(non-DLC).
It's essentially the full remastered doa5 game minus the post-launch DLC outfits(and one new character). $16 is a huge value.
Oh I never meant exclusive... I was just inferring as to whether they may plan another slate of dlc content surrounding Mai to warrant a season pass 5.
Core Fighters only includes a few fighters unlocked.

What wouldn't be included from Core Fighters compared to the actual game? Core Fighters is just 4 characters. Last Round is the game. Technically at this point there's more costumes in all of the season passes than what shipped originally, but if you care to put any money into the game, there'd be no reason to not start at Last Round.

The game has fucking Falcom costumes, nothing is off limits. We're long past the stage of "making sense"
As others already said, get the full game for that price. Totally worth it! Last Round is full to the brim with characters, modes and costumes. After all it is/was supposed to be the definitive version of DOA5 Vanilla and DOA5 Ultimate. Only thing missing is the character Naotora and DLC costumes. Hundreds by now actually but you get hundreds with the main game already.
